Hey everyone! As I mentioned in the introductions thread, I'm Heidi the starving SCAD student, and I'm very happy to be here! Its nice to find a guild full of Sonic fans such as myself that isn't overcrowded(I like small gatherings.. you get to know one another better). Anyway, I got Nuala's consent, so I thought I might share some semi-old Sonic stuff with you all. Any feedback/comments would be lovely, as I'm always trying to improve. Also, if anyone was interested, we could make this a Sonic fan art thread; others could post their drawings as well(though the furry thread seems to be meant for that already, heh).. Might be fun! Here's my first..back when I was still new to Photoshop.. Blargle.. And finally, here are a few pages based off of a script from Sonic issue #95. They won't make much sense without lettering, though. For those who are curious, I'll post the links to the colored and lettered versions of the above pages. These weren't colored by me; if I had my choice, I would have inked them first. Also, I find that they're a little too painterly for Archie's general style, but it was still fun to see them finished. http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/16476555/http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/16476713/http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/16476775/Note: I also know now that Knux was supposed to be green in that particular issue, but I hadn't been following the series at the time, so you'll have to excuse me *^_^ Thanks for looking!

Wow biggrin Wow. You're art rocks. It rocks hard. That's awesome. It's made me redundant. One second, collecting myself. What I'm trying to say is, great work 3nodding I especially love the expression on Sally's face in the blargle. Please give us more D:
The only critique I can come up with at the moment is the page layout in your comic bits. The 'square then square then square' style of layout that you seem to be leaning towards dulls your otherwise well illustrated action scenes and makes your visual pacing too linear (wording?) and generally doesn't do justice to your artwork. It seems to rely too much on what's going on inside the panel than how you present it. Possibley consider playing around with panel variation for future practice/fun pages, maybe check out how some Archie Sonic artists do theirs (especially action sequences).
But other than that.. heart I hope to see your work in future Sonic issues! :3

Thanks for the crit! Its muchly appreciated ^_^ I intend to do some pages of my own soon; I just need to come up with a brief story(that's the hard part x.x). Those will be inked and colored..and I'll be sure to post them. Until then, I may just update this thread with whatever fan art I sketch out at random.
I completely understand what you mean when you refer to the panels; I've had the panel grid system beat into me since I was a freshman here, and its been extremely hard to break away from. More practice should help rid me of that.
Again, thanks alot! heart heart domokun

chibimaryn Anyway, I got Nuala's consent, so I thought I might share some semi-old Sonic stuff with you all. Any feedback/comments would be lovely, as I'm always trying to improve. And threads like this, folks, are why I just invested in broadband. wink *jaw falls open* Those're beautiful! As ESC said, your layout seems slightly less than dynamic, but I can't fault anything about the artwork itself. (You even don't draw Tails looking like an overgrown four year old, which is always a free brownie point from me. wink ) Do you have a portfolio of your work yet that you can pass around the right people? With talent like that, you should have publishers fighting over you!

Thank you!! redface
I've been developing a small portfolio over the past year; not all of it is Sonic stuff, but hopefully it will be enough. I plan on having something to show people at San Diego Comic con this upcoming year.. since I met Ken Penders there last year. Maybe I'll meet him again with some new stuff, and he may be more interested *^.^
Right now all I can do is keep trying and make connections.. I don't really know anyone right now.. and I'm too shy. ~_~*

He's a means to an end, yes. But if he started respecting you, I'd get scared. Quote: Right now all I can do is keep trying and make connections.. Hahaha.. yeah, meeting him last year was an.. interesting experience. I tried to be as nice and friendly(oooo.. redundant..) as I possibly could, but I felt like he viewed me as just some insignificant wannabe Sonic nerd. Though he did mention to me that he helped get Dawn Best started, and that they were looking for more female artists to add to the team. I saw a flicker of opportunity in that...but that's long gone now..heh. I suppose I'll see what happens in July.
Grandstand? I've never heard of this term before...

Again, Penders seems to view every fan as either a curio or a paypacket on legs. Quote: Though he did mention to me that he helped get Dawn Best started, Dawn's someone else I know. I'll maintain a tactful silence on this point. stare Quote: and that they were looking for more female artists to add to the team. I saw a flicker of opportunity in that...but that's long gone now..heh. Are you sure you'd want your opportunity to come as positive discrimination because Penders feel that they need to fill some sort of quota? You'd probably be publicised as such. stare Quote: I suppose I'll see what happens in July. Grandstand? I've never heard of this term before... Put yourself forward, blow your own trumpet... That kind of thing. smile

And these were when you were NEW to Photoshop? eek Wow, you are a very good artist indeed 3nodding I like the way you've drawn them in the first picture, there's just something about them that looks like you'd see it on Tv rather than on a video game....Jeez, I don't even know what I'm trying to say, but good work! biggrin

That art... is nothing short of amazing. I don't really know what to say of such downright beautiful work. I'm pretty envious to say the least, since I do like to draw myself, but--while my style is very different to yours--I can't help but feel tremendously humble next to what you've produced.
It's not fair that people as good as you can still be called 'amateur'; I'd sooner call you a master. :p
As for your comic pages, the art is stunning; it's a shame that the only current Sonic comic still generally employs very basic (i.e. cheap) colouring methods, because if you ever ended up working for them, that would take away a lot from your art; you both sketch and colour wonderfully.
You've got a lot to be proud of, so keep up the good work. smile
