Well you could say about all the good times you two had and an update on what your life is like now. Tell them to be careful and keep their head down. Make sure to tell them that your prayers are with them and that you hope they are well. Then ask about how they are, and what life was like for them before they went to Iraq, especially if you haven't heard from them in a very long time.
Just some ideas. biggrin wink
