I going to ask a question that has the possibility of becoming a debate, but I am curious.
Matthew 21:44 (NIV) 44He who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces, but he on whom it falls will be crushed."[a]
Shortly after this verse it says the Pharisees knew Jesus was talking about them. I know it deals with their rejection of Jesus, but why did Jesus use two examples here? What is the difference between falling on the stone being broken into pieces and having the stone fall on you and then being crushed?

If you fall on Jesus in repentance it is good, but if Jesus has to fall on you in judgement it is not good.

Imotoku If you fall on Jesus in repentance it is good, but if Jesus has to fall on you in judgement it is not good. Interesting. I was leaning to first half of the verse not being as severe as the second half. I was thinking broken to pieces is something Jesus can mend and falling on the stone could be falling on our knees in repentance to Jesus. Crushed definitely does not sound good.

You have the right idea. You on stone=Good Stone on you=Bad

I think I see what Imotoku is saying. The Rock can be your foundation. When you fall on teh rock and shatter, you can rebuild with teh Rock as teh Foundation. under teh rock, however, you're not in as good condition sweatdrop
