'Kay, so...I'm going to start a roleplay, based on a book I almost wrote (and might eventually write).
I'll play the two main characters, Arianna and Archaedus.
You'll make up the rest and play them. I'll also have a list of characters that appeared in my book that you can apply to play, if you so desire.
The storyline:
Arianna is prophesized to save Lestauna, the world where this roleplay is set. Arianna is from Earth, and Archaedus is her guardian, the one who teaches her how to use the power she was given. Lestauna is an alternate dimention, and time doesn't pass on Earth when you're in Lestauna. The time that passes in Lestauna while you are on earth is miniscule, but can have differences. There is magic involved. No wands. (This is not supposed to be an HP knockoff!)
Magic is divided as such:
Physical: Much of the HP type magic, the things you'd find in a charms or transfiguration class. (Sorry, best way to describe it). Very broad branch of magic, very few know all of the contents of this branch. Includes, among many other things, shape-shifting and portal-hopping (the prefferred mode of transport).
Mental: telepathy, diviniation, contact to dead (through mirrors), ect, ect.
Supernatural: The most complicated of all. This branch includes elemental magic. Elemental magic, as it sounds, allows the caster to control the elements, but also allows the caster to control the weather. It is also the only magic that has no defense against it. The elements are structured so that one attack can cancel out another (fire cancells water) but at a price, for when two elements collide, time is momentarily stopped, and there are ways to avoid the effects.
The bad guys in this roleplay are the Malissimusts. They use elemental magic a lot. Most of them know how to prevent being stopped in time by elemental clashes.
All native Lestaunians have all magic involved in supernatural and physical (although how well they are in each depends on the person, most are better in one area than others), and most of the mental aspect, but native Lestaunians cannot practice divination.

Important Places to know about
The fields of change-many of the effects of this place are unkown, but you want to stick to the marked path. Stepping off of one could lead to less than desireable consequenses! In the center of the fields of change are two small circles, one lavender and one blue, enclosed in a larger circle of concrete. When two peple stand on each of the circles, one can transfer his powers to the other.
The place-Unnamed meeting place for the good guys. (the good guys don't really have an orginized group name.)
Neverwhere-Arianna's old school. This may come into the roleplay, it may not.
The Prophecy Hall-This is where Lestaunian prophecies come from. The main part is a 20x20 room in which A stone pillar sits, exactly in the middle. The rest of the hall is simply rooms where the propecies are kept. When a new prophecy is made, the whole building radiates light, and the prophecy appears on the stone pillar. The propecies are sometimes written on paper, sometimes on stone, and sometimes on clay. No prophecy has ever been wrong, although some have been INTERPERETED wrongly.
Erm...more to come later, possibly.

Characters already created (Strike means someone is playing them)
((All are the good guys. I hadn't gotten to actually naming the bad guys yet.)) Stephen: Transforms into a dragon. He was the one to fetch Arianna from her world to Lestauna.
James: He seems malicious and unemotional, but can actually be extremely emotional and vulnerable.
Naomi: Not much is known about her, but she was one to interperet THE prophecy (about Arianna), indicating that she is a prophecy reader, and a darn good one.
Skyler: Arianna's first and only school friend, who ended up in Lestauna and was given magical powers. Keeps Arianna out of trouble a lot. Possible romantic intrest.

Special Powers your character can have
-Shape-shifting-animals or magical creatures (ex: Stephen) -Divination-not available to native Lestaunians -Prophecy reader-only about 20 of these exist, and they're usually not pure Lestaunians, have some divinational backgrounds (most of the time, not always) -Invisibility-VERY rare -Mirroring- can transform into the likeness of others, also pretty rare.

((I guess I"ll get the ball rolling. Ari-purple, Archaedus-red.))
The place was a huge stone building that looked like it could have been a small castle in a former life. It sat directly in the middle of a wood, with no paths leading to or from it. Though it was set in a clearing, you couldn't even see it from the air. Lestauian trees were just that tall. Their branches intertwinded above the place to create a thathced roof above the actual roof. It was the perfect hideout.
This was where Arianna found herself once again. But this time, it was for good. She had left her world for the last time...at least, until this blasted war was over. She carried only a large duffel bag with her. Uncharacteristic of her as it was to have such a miniscule amount of luggage, she hadn't had time to pack everything she wanted to. Archaedus had given her ten minutes to gather her belongings and get back to Lestauna. The place would be her new home.
She walked up to the large wooden door, and banged upon the bear-head knocker three times. The eyes of the bear flashed with recognition and the door swung open on its own accord. "Anyone home?" she cried into the hallway.
A voice came from a small room to Arianna's right, and it seemed as soon as the voice spoke the smell hit her nose. The wonderful, delicious smell of dinner. "I have just finished dinner. Set your stuff down and join me, you must be hungry after your journey." Archaedus' soft voice told her.
Arianna immediately dropped her bag and went into the kitchen/dining room. She flopped into the first seat available. "I can't just open a direct portal here, noooo. I have to walk ten miles."
"Nine point three miles, actually." Archaedus said, setting a large plate of baked chicken, mashed potatoes, corn, and buttered bread in front of Ari.
"Oh, that seven tenths of a mile I didn't walk makes all the difference." Ari said sarcastically, but she is smiling at Archaedus. She began to eat. "I know, I know, saftey and portal-tracking and all that. But still. I hate walking so far."

A few miles away.. Deeper into the heart of the wood, the shrill screech of a hawk alerted all the presence of a wanderer.
Avatre looked towards the sky, from her perch amongst the leaves of an old Hemlock. With much practice, she returned the cry of her friend in the air. Lazily, the silver hawk dived down taking roost upon her shoulder. A small smile appeared on Avatre's thin lips, "Beautiful flying Soren."
After receiving a small chirp of approval from her little feathered friend, Avatre made her way through the upper branches to get a clear view of her surroundings.
Gazing around the ocean of leaves, she whispered to Soren.
"We have been all around these woods. From every foxes' den, to the many ancestral trees, we have seen it all. For seventeen years, I have lived in seclusion. Practicing magic and learning from the lands. Then, I met you Soren. Being your ever obstinate self, starting a fight, which you would have surely lost. Heh.... can you believe that was five years ago? Man, you were so cute then, what happened?"
Soren screeched indignantly and flew onto another branch.
"Aw, no hard feelings. You a very handsome bird." Avatre surpressed giggling as she watched Soren puff out his feathered chest in pride and strut across the branch. With a gentle rumble in the distance, Avatre turns her attention away from Soren and looked south.
"We better head north Soren, towards that big castle. By the looks of those clouds, we will be sleeping all night in the rain if we don't find a good oak or maybe a willow to sleep under tonight." With a swift and graceful movement, she jumped from the branch and landed soundly on the ground. Soren following her with a soft glide, taking up his perch upon her shoulder once again.
"You will have to be my eyes, as always Soren. Keep watch on those clouds." Dawning her evergreen cloak and cheery wood staff, Avatre was on her way, with her faithful silver hawk watching her from above.

((I'm asuming the castle you mentioned is The Place...correct me if I'm wrong.))
Archaedus suddenly looked up. "Someone is approaching...someone new."
Arianna dropped her fork. "Is it...one of...THEM?"
"No...no...I sense no malisimusimal ((ha...that word doesn't really exist but whatever)) era about her. However, be prepared. Some are quite well at pretending to be a good guy. The bear will not be wrong, though."
"The knocker?"
"Yes. It sees directly into the soul. If it lets her in, she is good. If she is not, the building will immediately dissapear from her sight and she will never remember seeing it."
"You really did think of everything." Ari laughed, going back to her food with no further worries. She noticed Archaedus remained rigid, however.

Username: BlackHawkGS... duuuuuuh
Character Name: BlackHawk... duuuuuh
Good/bad: Bad. Hell, if no one else wants to, I shall!
Special powers: - Just mental. He gets inside his opponents minds, making them incapable of using magic and having to fight him physically.
- Mirroring (if I'm allowed to use it). Think it would be interesing for an evil character to use it.
Background: Unknown... for now. Come one, everyone likes the mysterious bad guy!
Personality: Quiet and always has a depressing attitude about him... no one is sure why.
Other: In the beginning, he'll mimick other people, in attempt to trick people into hating one another. In his regular form, he'll wear a black long cloak (Kingdom Hearts style... sorry, only way I know how to describe it)
Weapons: He wears just one white glove. It gives him the ability to mirror others and get inside other's minds. Where it came from and who made it, are a mystery to him as well... a mystery that no longer bothers him.
His background, his motives, his family, his friends... who and what are they? That is the question you will ask. But the sad thing is... he'll be asking it as well.
Edit: Sorry, I don't have enough spare time to join in on this tonight. I'll be starting in later this week or the weekend. Can't wait to see how this progresses!
