For those who don't know, I've recently started going to a Christian academy. Now, this is a pretty painless experience, with the exception of one subject: History.
This is my worst subject, and is based ENTIRELY on the bible. You know that little course they give to children in Sunday school? Yah. It quotes, as historical fact, that Islam is a morally corrupt bunch of evil-doers and that an angel came down and killed 185 thousand men to save Jerusalem.
The rest of my classes are just fine and fundie-free, but at the moment, it seems like the two options I have are pretty much convert or fail, and I’m not doing either.
What I *want* to do is to stay in the library during 6th period and study from the requirement list for History 10 on my own time, but I highly doubt that anyone’s going to approve. I guess I should talk the counselor (who also does class assignment) about it, but then, he’s going to have every teacher riding me non-stop.
Grawr… any advice? -_-

suck it up?
That's basically the best advice I could give you. I've had to do that too, just look at it with a different perspective. Just watch them, thinking "this is the kind of thinking that caused some of the worst events in history..."
Should actually be pretty fun ^_^

Just let yourself burn with suppressed rage until you get out. The result of such a practice is me, so you know you'll end up in pretty good shape. It's sad, and a little pathetic, but sometimes one is simply forced to take the burden placed upon them. I would know, my teachers knew of my atheist nature and made me read lines from the bible in front of class every day. One bears what one must.
If it's any help to you during this trying time, you'll probably come out of it a deeper atheist and you should have a lot of great things to say to Christians in debates.

You can actually get a High School diploma learning THAT?!? eek
Anyways, I guess you'll just have to learn it their way. Unless you plan on becoming a historian, it shouldn't scar your education too much.
I mean, if you went to a public school, the teacher would be fired in a matter of seconds.
However, private schools can pretty much "teach" you whatever they want. Yes, even racial discrimination.

Saying that islam is an evil religion is religious intolerence, and to a point, racism. I wouldn't stand for it. Complain to the counselor that you're being taught to discriminate and hate others in your history class. See if they do anything.

Well, as stated by someone else, preaching that Islam is evil.....is a form of racism, and intolerance. Go to the counsular....and tell them about it.
Then...what kind of reaction you get would determine your next course of action.

I agree with Mua and Sangu. Only because you shouldn't have to put up with that kind of bigotry. I mean, yeah, its a private school and whatever, but seriously... That just... Makes me angry. I am truly sorry that you must "learn" that.

Oww. That is..cruelty. I have a few islamic friends. I don't bother them with their beliefs, but still.. The only person who truly bugs me about being an atheist is my cousin. x_x; But, you should tell the counselor about it, it's all I can think of. Your in a bad situation..

Just cross out the word "history" on all your textbooks, notebooks, and syllabi and write "literature". And then enjoy the two lit classes!

Check to see if there are any alternative ways to get that credit. I don't know private school, heck I quit public school, but perchance there is an online class that would suffice. Personally. I'd voice my own opinion on the opinionated nature of history in every way I could. Answering all the questions saying in the most roud-about way possible that there are many different histories written and I don't believe this one. And if they try to tell me otherwise. I walk out.

Get expelled.
That's what I did when I got sent to a Catholic school for ninth grade. Had the highest grades in the class, too.

Muaethia Complain to the counselor that you're being taught to discriminate and hate others in your history class. Yeah, I hate hating Nazis because of regular history class. And those darn commies, too.

And those darn commies, too. Did your history teacher actually ever say "Nazis/Communists are evil"? Because that's discrimination and grounds for a lawsuit.
