My current novel is the Jane Austen Book Club. A real joy, and I admit to picking it up for the Austen reference. It's a little on the "ya-ya" side, but it stays away from the sap enough for moderately cynical people to still enjoy it.
So...we're all literate around - what are you guys reading?

Hehe. I was just talking about the Chronicles of Narnia! I've never read the books, in part because the movie version gave me nightmares as a child. My summer reading just plods along - took a break from the easy romances and fanfics to enjoy Christopher Rice's newest novel. I adore his work

Wow - two books I've never heard of. Which is kinda odd for me. I'll have to go look'em up. Doubt I'll read the first one though - I'm not much for politics. But the second is a possibility. I'm always looking for new books over the summer! heart

Wai~!!!!
Gotta love the Disc!!!
Terry Pratchett is my own 'small god'. xd I have all the disc books, plus some fun stuff mom got on her last trip to England - like Death's Domain and Nanny Ogg's Cookbook.
The only ones I need to work on getting are the science of the Disc series, and there's like three in that.
Have you ever tried the video games though? Maybe it's just because I didnt' have the booklet for it, but I tried the first one and it is *way* too hard to figure out. sweatdrop

Currently Reading:
Through Wolf's Eyes by Jane Lindskold - Set in a fantasy Medieval world, a feral girl child raised by wolves and is able to talk to animals. In her teen years she is found by a search party looking for the King's banished son. She is "civilized" and is brought to the king as a probable missing heir. You can take the girl from the wild, but not the wild from the girl. Still reading, and they only just got to the castle with her wolf and falcon companions. So far it is a great book.
The Pillars of the World by Anne Bishop - Also set in a fantasy Medieval world. I am not far in this book but it seems to be about the seperation of the mundane world from the world of the fey as well as the persecusion of good witches. I don't know if this will be a good book or not. We shall see.
Robotech: Homecoming - Bk 3 by Jack McKinney - Set in the (was) Future. It is the novel adaption of the Anime Robotech. Great story in that it ties alot of loose details together. Not my first time reading it. biggrin
GI Joe - Trade Paperback Vol 4 - Woooot Yes I am a geek! I love the GI Joe comics and this volume reprints issues 31-40 of the Marvel comic run from the 80's. Yo Joe!

blaugh You have a very interesting reading list Baka
I never knew there was a comic version of GI Joe! I use to play with my brother's when I was kid. xd But he never followed the story line, so I didn't really learn that.
I've though of reading Robotech before, and now that I'm in a sci-fi/fantasy phase I think I'll revisit the idea.
The other two books you mentioned sound cool as well. 3nodding Your little list should help fill in some of my summer free time.

thanks redface Yes, if you have seen the Robotech anime, you should definately read the books. These authors do an outstanding adaption that although remains 100% true to the anime, they manage to give the story a new level of depth. heh yeah there have been many a GIJoe comic series. In fact, they are starting a new volume, starting with issue #0 this month. If you are interested, http://yojoe.com/comics/ of all the comic covers. Quite the list...

blaugh Thanks for the link Baka!
And yeah, Night, there are actually like.. 3 games for it. The first was just for windows 98/2000 I think. But I believe the last two were made for newer systems - I'm sure the third one, Noir, is.
It may be easier if you buy them new and have the book to help you along. But, otherwise, the first one is impossible. You have to click on this map of Ankh-Morpork, and find stuff. It's *hard*. Like...one of the items you need is a worm. You have to go to the middle of town. Find the fruit vendor, click on the apple with the worm in it, and throw the apple at the guy in the stocks. But, see, without the book I didn't even know I needed a worm. You need it to get something else you're looking for. It's a step-by-step deal. And without the book, I didn't know the steps. confused I printed out a cheat-sheet, but frankly - it got boring anyway.
The third one is suppose to be cooler I think. You have to solve some type of mystery. You can find any of them on Ebay. 3nodding
And I know what it's like to have a book around so long and not read it. I've only done that with the Disc once - with the very first book. Mom bought me The Color of Magic, and I didn't think it was very interesting at the time. Something made me read it a year or so later, and I just *loved* it. The thing about reading'em out of order though - it's just not as satisfying. It's better when you read them like they were written. With some it doesn't really matter - Small Gods, for example, is pretty stand-alone. But the Watch books, the Witches, the Death ones and I guess the ones with Rincewind too - they're better in order. Especially the Watch ones. I'm totally in love with Vimes heart
One warning though - The third book in the series... Equal Rites... SUCKS. Terry never meant for it to be so big. The Color of Magic and The Light Enchanted go together, ya know. But then a third one was needed and...well, the Disc just wasn't developed in all it's glory back then. Now he's got it down though, and the best ones star characters he's really worked with. Like Vimes and Death. Fans like Rincewind, but I agree with Terry's assement of him - there's only so much you can right with a character who's whole philosophy is *RUN!*. xd But the wizards are always great to have around, especially poor Ponder. sweatdrop
The one you really, really got to read is Hogfather. It has Death and the UU cast mostly, and it totally rocks. It's like the Disc version of a Christmas story, and I read it every December - have for about 3/4 years now. 3nodding I actually need to buy a new copy soon - worn this one completely out. sweatdrop
