Raving, frothing-at-the mouth yaoi fangirls have been pairing up their favorite feathery-haired, effeminate pretty boys from video games for years...but what about video game characters who actually are gay? I've looked into the subject, and I think I've found some definite proof that my favorite pasttime is indeed a friend of Dorothy's.
Example 1: The Cho Aniki series. This is a series of shooting games from Japan that feature Samson and Adam, two speedo-clad musclebound beefcakes who attack their enemies by shooting ammo out of a hole on top of their bald heads. One of the settings in which you do battle is a field of giant lavendar daisies in which half-naked winged men prance about. Another (and my own personal favorite) is a church where giant, translucent purple naked men do squat thrusts and lesbians embrace one another atop pedestals in the background. eek If real church was like this, I'd be more religious than the ********' pope. For more info and screenshots on these insane and hmoerotic games, check out this site: http://www.i-mockery.com/minimocks/sexual-games/10.php
Example 2: The Temple of Elemental Evil. After arriving with your party in a certain town, a male slave wink named Bertram will run up to your character and explain that if you can defeat his master in battle, he will marry one of your male team mates. Win Bertram's freedom, and you will be treated to a scene in which he and the male character embrace, whilst the narrator explains that the two were married and lived happily ever after. Awwww!!! heart
Example 3: Guilty Gear. The character Venom is madly in love with Zato-1, made evident by the fact that his entire storyline consists entirely of trying to find him, pledging his undying loyalty to him, sacrificing himself for him, etc. He is, in fact, officially stated as being homosexual (care of the latest Guilty Gear drama CD "Knight of Knives" released at the end of 2004). Furthermore, he's got a wicked sense of style, apparant by his lovely Chanel belt buckle. 'Nuff said. Bridget is also beleived to be homosexual, mainly because he's a cute boy who parades about dressed as a nun and uses a teddy bear as a weapon (how kinky is that?) Oh yeah, and his name is BRIDGET. Funny story, me and a bunch of guys are sitting around playing video games, and a conversation about which characters we'd like to ******** came up. Most of the guys stated the obvious, like Tifa Lockhart or Sophitia. Steve however, said he wanted to ******** Bridget. He even admitted to "whacking it" while thinking of said character. The look on his face when we told him Bridget was a dude was utterly PRICELESS. Later on, I printed out a picture of Bridget laying on a bed cuddling up to his teddy bear and wrote, "To Steve, Last night was wonderful! Love, Bridget XOXOXO" on it and gave it to him. He didn't find it funny.
Example 4: Summon Night: Swordcraft Story. In this GBA game, you choose to play as either a male or female character, and the object of the story is to become a great craftlord (a cross between a heroic knight and a weapon smith) like your dad. At the beginning of the game, your character's mentor hires a summoner to help you find a guardian beast, which is something like a familiar, who will help you forge weapons and aid you in battle with the use of spells. The summoner will ask you several questions, and you will receive one of 4 guardian beasts depending on your answers. I chose a female character, and my guardian beast was a cute fairy girl named Sugar. The very first thing Sugar did when she was summoned was kiss me. Sugar seems taken aback when my character expresses disgust at being kissed. In an attempt to hide her obvious shock so as not to offend her new guardian beast, my character says that it's okay, for she "kisses other girls all the time." sweatdrop Sugar then goes on to explain that she was once the guardian beast of my father, and he promised her that she could marry his son before he passed away. My character explains to her that they can't get married because they are both girls, to which Sugar says, "I don't care if you are a boy or a girl, as long as you are kind to me." How sweet is that? Sugar is constantly coming on to me thoughout the game (much to my character's chagrin) and trying to make out with me. I have yet to beat the game, but I'm kinda hoping the two will get together at the end. redface
Is the presence of gay characters in video games a sign that gays have been fully assimilated into our culture, or do you think game makers are simply trying to reel in more customers? Please discuss. And if you know of any other gay (or gayish) characters not named in my list, please mention them!

In Interplay's Fallout Two one could have homosexual/lesbian characters as well as bisexual characters. One could also be married as a homosexual/lesbian.
I'm unsure as to wether or not you could be homosexual in the origonal Fallout, but I wouldn't doubt it's in there somewhere. Note that these are older games (I think fallout came out in 95/96)

In the games The Sims and The Sims 2 (and their expansion packs), you could have gay characters and families. However, with a few restrictions compared to the straight couples. In the Sims 1, gay couples could just ask eachother to move in, no union of any kind. They got a phone call to adopt a baby in every blue moon. In The Sims 2, gay couples have a civil union, and adopt as often as they want, as long as they fit the finantial criteria and the number of people in the house is under seven.
Also, in the game Fable, you can be gay, bi, or straight, and some NPCs will be naturally atracted to you, of both genders.
PS: I got Sugar too on Summon Night... But I was playing with a male character... And she didn't kiss him yet...

Summon Night sounds really good.
But the fact that gay people are now being accepted into our culture, I dont know. You have to remember that alot of these games come from Japan, who aren't as a**l about it as we are. It is nice to know, though, that there are games out there like that.
I think I might get Summon Night sometime.. >_> If I can find it. The Sims 2 is pretty cool. I looooove when you make your character's "woohoo" for the first time. It makes this little cut scene and it's cute to see my girl sim grab the a** of my other girl sim. xD

As for the Sims, I can't believe I forgot that one! I was a HUGE sims addict. I was constantly downloading new skins and items and whatnot. I once downloaded skins of all the GW boys (sans Wufei, 'cause he's a mysogynist p***k and I hate him) and created a sex-filled yaoi funhouse, pairing up Duo with Heero and Trowa with Quatra. I spent countless hours living vicariously through little pixelated pretty boys getting it on in a heart-shaped bed. *sigh* Damn, I'm a dork. I also hooked up Tifa and Aeris. Poor Aeris was in an abusive relationship, cause Tifa would slap her or make fun of her (resulting in Aeris crying) after sex. She was better off with Sephiroth. Damn, all this talk of Sims makes me want to start playing again.

Luna Eclipse [ Sugar doesn't like d**k, I guess. She kissed me as soon as she was summoned. Yes she does... She kept mentioning how romantic it was that they where sharing a workshop, and when they went out to see the ocean, she told him about the engagement. She's an odd one xd

I want to go to this gay hotel in Japan but I can't roght now vacation is over sweatdrop .

In Knights of the Old Republic I: The Jedi Out Cast, you can make your character a lesbian, I am unsure about the sequel to this game, or if you could be a homosexual male.

Luna Eclipse Bridget is also beleived to be homosexual, mainly because he's a cute boy who parades about dressed as a nun and uses a teddy bear as a weapon (how kinky is that?) Oh yeah, and his name is BRIDGET. Bridget, acording to wikipedia (yes, he has his own wikipedia entry xd ): Wikipedia The reason for his feminine, and, at times, rather androgynous appearance, as well as his name is that he was the second of two twin boys (the other has never been named as of yet) and was born in a village (also unnamed) in which twin boys were said to be bad luck and an omen, so he was raised as a girl.

I'm a little mad at Maxis because the said that the Sims 2 would have gay marriage and I think they copped out and bumped it a step down to Joined union but it still happens, and I'm a big nitpicker over the name

Indeed, If you're a female, and do just the right things, Bastilla will come onto you just as if you were male. I am unsure about any homosexual/lesbian encounters in the sequel though I'm sure there is a great potential.
I never much liked the sims myself, I always just liked to live as poor as possible, and when my job gave me too much money I ended up quitting lol.

So, you are free to read your doujinshi with no crap on the fantasy at all xD
