The early morning sun began to peek over into the sky, chasing away the blackness to replace it with a vivid blue. Dew sparkled on the blades of green and yellow, taking the place of the stars in their absence. Birds began their calls for the new day and Shantanu wasn't far behind. With a coo she flitted over to a small watering hole, sweeping her wings through the air. She landed lightly on the bank, hopping on small but quick avian feet.

With a sharp look all around her, quick as any of her species, she made sure the coast was clear. Then she hopped into the water, ruffling her feathers and splashing the liquid about. She began to preen and bathe in such a flurry that only an avian could.

Azra heard a soft splash and decided to check it out. Slowly she crept through the grass when the scent of water hit her. A watering hole. The sun was blazing out and Azra was baking in her own juices, metaphorically. She needed to drentch herself in the nice, cool water.

Peeking her head out, there was a lone bird in the watering hole, awefully small to use a large pool of water. Slowly and discreetly, Azra slipped herself into the water and sat still in the shaded end to keep cool.

Tanu stopped her bath imidately, even though she wished she could take longer. Her head snapped around with a quick flick that only an avian could produce naturually. She then hopped backward in the shallows, fluttering her wings. She eyed the lioness, feeling calm but wary. While she was normally comfortable with predators due to her upbringing, that didn't mean she was foolish. Bathing was dangerous with no one as a look out and she wasn't sure she'd risk herself needlessly. So shaking out her feathers she fluttered to the bank to perch on a rock, her eyes on the stranger out of her kind's need for attentiveness.

Aza smiled, "Are you afraid?" she asked. Some reason she liked small creatures, reminded her that she was bigger and possbily much more deadly. To harm on smaller than herself never crosses her mind. "You may continue if you like, I won't do you no harm." she spoke, in a semi-monotoned voice. She was growing her emotions back, she was returning to her old self.

Azra sat quietly at the other end of the pool and waited patiently, wondering if the bird trusted her. She was honest enough, she wouldn'thurt the bird.

Tanu watched her for a moment, tilting her head from one side to another as she watched. Finally she hopped back into the shallows. "I'll take you're word for it," she told the lioness in a materal sternness. She sank down and dipped her head under the water with quick grace and pulled out within a second. She began to preen again, using her beak to sooth the water in the feathers and to get the dirt and dust out. She kept up the normal attentive nature of any avian, but otherwise she seemed calm and comfortable with the lioness on the otherside of the water.

Azra sank low, drinking from the water, getting a horrible taste of the bird in it. She spat it out on the grass and shook herhead. Birds are bad tasting animals. she told herself. Hergaze returned to the bird and she smiled. So small and innocent and yet can lash out at her whenever she stepped out of line.

Slowly she bathed herself in the water.

Tanu probably would have felt insulted that the lion thought so little of her kind. She had a huge respect for lions and other creatures, despite the fact that avians often feared them. To be belittled to a simple bad-tasting creature was rather daunting. She preened and cleaned herself with sharp accuracy, never failing to miss a ruffled spot or a misplaced feather. She was very keen on keeping her plumage in order, despite how it would be ruffled by the wind or tossed about by a stray storm later.

Azra watched as the bird quickly bathed itself while she was still working on her paw. Fast creatures they were. The lioness smirked as she licked her paw before starting with the next.

"My name is Azraceri." she murmured looking up at the avian. It was a poor attempt at starting a conversation, but an attempt nevertheless.

Tanu cocked her head sharply to the side, peering over at the lioness across the water. Her grooming actions ceased for the moment, her tiny body calmly still in the cool liquid around her. Finally she shifted again, fanning out her tail and shaking her feathers to clear out useless drops of water. "My name is Shantanu," she replied with warm ease, resuming her preening without a thread of worry in her clear body language.

Azra nodded, "It was nice meeting you." she murmured and left the pool, sitting along the side. "You birds have a nice voice when you sing. Keep singing for others to enjoy. It would be a sin to kill such a wonderful creature who sings not for herself, but for others to enjoy." She nodded slightly and disappeared back into the savannah, continuing her quest. At least she left a word of wisedom for the bird.

Shantanu was rather surprised at the praise the lioness had offered her. Despite all her meetings with lions, leopards, and even snakes she had never recieved such a compliment. She felt her chest swell slightly in warm pride and she ruffled her feathers in a flustered fashion. "Thank you," she twittered, though she knew the female was gone. "Perhaps I'll sing my next song in memory of you," she chirped to herself with a smile. Lifting her wings she darted into the air, her movements like a complex dance pattern that one couldn't understand. And then she was off again, back to her solitary journey.
