My name is Gus.

That's it. That's the start of my book. And I have to admit that it's a little depressing, for as far as great opening lines go, I'm not hitting high on the list at all. I always imagined that my book, my greatest accomplishment in my literary career would start a little more memorably... but apparently not. As I try and think of a better starter I'm haunted by lines such as 'call me Ishmael', 'The white prophet's premise seems simple', and 'On the 24th of February, 1815, the watchtower of Notre Dame de la garde signalled the arrival of the three master Pharaon'. All introductions that grab the reader and hold them, letting them know exactly were they stand and giving them hopes and fears about the places they might find themselves in a few short paragraphs... ... ... But not mine. Mine is simple and, I fear, not even relevant to most people... unless you're a jivvin or a jivvin lover.

My name is Gus. And the only thing you really need to know about me is that my book is my life story... and I'm not the main character.

I dedicate this book to my Mother- A woman who died and lived on.
I dedicate this book to my first love- Tifa... my favourite colour.
I dedicate this book to my sister- Saty... anything but tame.
I dedicate this book to my 'Aunt' - Ranald... once my mother... I'm sorry.
I dedicate this book to my friend- Fen... I'll never be as much to him as he is to me.

But most of all, I dedicate this book to all the jivvins (in pure cliche style) for that's what this book of mine is about.... it's about the jivvins.

Daewl - One of six ranks for jivvins. - Translated as Aloof
Daewl are cold. The true traits of individual Daewls can fall under any of the other ranks, though they tend to mask these traits, and so they have been granted a rank of their own. Daewls are aloof and impersonal, rarely speaking with any other than their own rank, and then usually in strange languages that vary from Jivvin to Jivvin. They tend to shun others, limiting their attention to a choice few, and will often interject into conversations with completely unrelated words or topics, if only for the amusement of watching the other fumble to respond. Despite their affected silence, Daewls are extremely intelligent, more so than any of the other ranks. Each Jivvin possesses a certain ability from hatching, an element as they call them, and each element is unique to the Jivvin. Strength of these powers will vary, as will the ability to manipulate them and the extent to which they can be manipulated. Daewls are the only Jivvins who can enter the Future door, and then only if they know how to do so.

Speech - Jivvins can speak aloud, yes, and can speak telepathically with their bonds as they grow older. Married Jivvins can also speak telepathically with each other.
