I know this seems like a topic that is in no way connected to wicca, but I want to know how it does connect to it since wicca, to my understanding, is a very pacifistic belief system (And it harm none, do as you wish.)...

Would you go into military service?

Wicca is a recognized religion within the military. I work for the military in a civilian capacity. I personally would not join the military, I am not the take orders type. If you were in the military you could go to any chaplian and he would celebrate wicca holidays with you.

That is very interesting to know.

However, I was more wondering about how the principles of the military argue with the principles of Wicca and how they join with them. Like with Christianity, only I wanted a justification for wiccans, of sorts.

More than likely, a Wiccan who enters into military service will find themselves a place within the 'service' departments, such as supply, medical, the chaplaincy, or adminstration. I myself tried to enter the Air Force Reserves (no go due to asthma, found out during first weeks of basic training). The position I would have held was an administrative one, far away from the front lines.

It's a very interesting topic... I know that I wouldn't go into military service for fighting- however, admin type things, or peacekeeping, I would be okay with. In NZ, most of what the army does is help out in times of National Emergency- Mass Flooding, things like that. I'd be happy to do that kind of work as well.

Both of my parents are in the military and are pushing for me and my sister to go into it. In some cases, military and wiccan principles collide in with beliefs. I don't think it would really matter to military officials what your religion is or how you celebrate it, but then again, My country's military is weird and I'd much rather step away from it.lol. So sorry if I confused everyone..... sweatdrop

I have worked for the Air Force Reserve and I now work for the Navy and if you are still interested in the military (I am not pushing you in anyway, I am just informing you, OK) the Navy will take you with a medical waiver. And well the Navy really is never really on the front lines, since they are on ships. If you had scores good enough to get into the Air Force (the best), you definetly will have scores good enough for the Navy (the 2nd best). You could go into the Navy Reserves. They have excellent programs and pay for schooling.

Gosh, I sound like a recruiter (the people from the dark side). I don't want anyone to think I condone the military in anyway. I was just giving information. As I said before I am not the military type and I would not join myself, unless I truly need cash for college.

The pagan knights weren't knights, they were mercenaries, payed military force. The noblemen often hired them (when they weren't fighting them) for lack of their own men, or whatever other reason they might have had. The Celts, the Vikings, the Arabs...

A pagan would never be made knight, remember, Europe was highly under the command of the Roman Catholic Church in the middle ages.

I just talked to a Navy recruiter yesterday. I think it would be cool to work with the nuclear-powered ships, learning how that works. And like Tazzy (I don't know everyone's names yet. Sorry) said, the Navy isn't on the front lines, I don't have any objection from the religious angle. I would not join the Marines or Army, but with what my ASVAB scores are, that would be a waste of my intelligence (not to look down on Marines and Army, it's just that there is a reason that those two branches take the lowest ASVAB scores).

Just a note: If you are eligible for working in the nuclear program then you have excellent scores. One more thing (recruiters can't tell you this, you have to wait til you talk to a NUC classifier or a regular classifier) when you finish Nuc school and you finally get out of the Navy, you could get a job making at least 6 figures. I know guys who have done that. Money may not be everything, but it sure helps.

Both of my parents were in the military for more then 22 years. And I talk to my mum alot about Religion in the Military. Like many said you don't have to be a foot Solider.

Also there has been reports of people who practice Wicca in the Military. They have been having problems for years. Many people including the president does not believe that Wiccan Soliders should not be apart of the Military. I know its a outrages thing I have been keeping up with.

The president does not believe in many things (ohoh perhaps a different thread, but well he is just too boring). The military does except Wicca and well to be honest the president isn't going to be able to change. Free country and all.

I've thought about this before...
On the one hand, no. I'd be against killing people or aything... What did they do to me? What makes that person deserve to die? A person like me, and a person who abviously has alot of faith in their life, be it in religion or in their country. But on the other hand, with war existing, you may need war to end with peace. War won't end until everyone wants it to =S. People are looking to better their economy, and things like that. There will be war as long as there is competition of sorts like that... I don't know. I know you don't have to be running around risking your life just because you're in the army... But I don't like the idea. One of the hardest things I do in life, Is try not to lower myself to the level of those who pick on me at school.... (I get a really hard time at school...) Anyay - I don't think being in the army is mjy kind of thing... I would rather live in my own secluded world, help others where I can, live happily and make peace. War won't end in our lifetimes. It may not end until the sun explodes and we ALL die as equals. But you never know. We can only hope.
