I haven't played it recently, but I never had severe lag while I was playing, and I'm on dial-up...
The best way to avoid it is to play on a server and a channel with a low population. Never play on Channel 1, and never play on, umm... the last two servers in the list... I forget the names...
It happens because the servers are processing so much information. There are more requests from game clients to the servers than the servers can process, so that slows things down, and causes lag. The more people that play the game, the more lag will happen. Wizet will need to constantly upgrade their servers to be able to handle the increased player base. As well, they'll need to constantly streamline their code to make it smaller and more efficient, which will lead to more patches, which will lead to lag as everyone downloads the new patch, which will have bugs, which will lead to new patches, which will need steamlined code... It's an endless cycle...

I run on wireless... stare But it's okay...sometimes...I mean Windia isn't so crowded and all or over populated but I get lagged anyway. But hey, sometimes lag is really cool...I was in a party with my brother and I was lagging at golems so I died...on my computer, but for some reason, on my brother's computer, I was suspended in the air eek with 0 hp left and no grave stone...I was even able to say "omg rofl" in the air, but still no grave stone on my brother's computer...lol...

You mean the map one screen to the left of Henesys? I have no idea why it's so crowded. I tend to lag there myself...
The best solution is probably going to be travel scrolls. Buy one to Lith Harbor, and one to Henesys. When you're in Henesys, and you want to head West, use the Lith Harbor scroll. Make sure you buy a new one before you leave the harbor. When you want to return to Henesys, use the Henesys scroll, and again, make sure to buy a new one. That's what I do with my Archer...

I've had no lag after the latest patch. But then, I'm playing on the Khaini server...
Have you tried rebooting Windows? Sometimes that will fix problems like lag in games.
If you know computers and know what you're doing, you can always use the taskmanager to look for things that are running and eating up resources that don't need to be running...

I think I got and idea. Try defragmenting your computer and a cleanup. I think it may have taken some lag off of me.
Start>Accessories>System Tools>Disk Cleanup/Disk Defragmenter
