I'm a bad, baaad fan. cry I do not know the origin of Kadaj's, Yazu's, & Lozu's names. I know that Sephiroth is a term referring to....um....a type of religious symbol-circle-thingie. I've heard that Kadaju comes from a Jewish song of mourning, or something to that effect, but I'd like the origins of everyone's names. Thank you.

You're not a bad fan at all. I think most people probably don't know the origin of their names, and like darkblu angel said, you're a really good fan for even knowing the origin of Sephiroth's name. smile

I tried looking up the names for you though, but I only found this:

Quote:
Kadaj - This Advent Children character's name most likely originates from the Persian word "Khadaj", which means "imperfect" or "incomplete". An alternate theory is that Kadaj is a reworking of the word "Kaddish", which, according to Judaism 101, is "the prayer recited by a mourner for eleven months, after the loss of a loved one."

Hope it helps. smile

Sephiroth

The word "Sephiroth" can be traced to a religious origin - that of Jewish Kabbalah.

There is a diagram that features heavily in Kabbalistic reference, referred to as the Tree of Life. It is a diagram showing several spherical shapes, linked together with lines. Each sphere has it's own attributes and meaning, and each is referred to as a "sephirot" (or "sefirot").

The Tree of Life, or Systema Sephirotica

The plural of the word "sephirot" is that of our villain. Yep, that's right-- the plural is indeed "Sephiroth".

So, now we know where the word comes from... but why that name? What is so significant about this Tree of Life that our villain is named after it? How does this fit into the grand story of Final Fantasy VII?

The answer to that is simple:

It is said that this Tree of Life depicts the "ten divine paths", or the ten creative forces that are between the infinite God, and our created world. It is, by definition, humanity's process of returning to divinity, along the path shown.

Considering that Sephiroth's ambition during the game is to become divine, to rule over the Final Fantasy VII world as a God, this is a very appropriate name for our villain.

heart heart heart

Awesome explanation. I knew that Sephiroth's name had something to do with a religious diagram, but this increases the clarity of my knowledge. Thanks!

LMAO. ^_^ im in like a bazillion kadaj fan cites lol.

The name Kadaj is a rather strange one, and is certainly not common. The following are some select sentences from an analysis of the name 'Kadaj' from Kabalarians, and responses and thoughts on how they relate to him as a person.

The name Kadaj gives you a highly sensitive, idealistic, and intuitive nature.
This is true of Kadaj, for he is very interlligent, and picks up on many things. But much of this fore-knowledge comes from Sephiroth, which is the main reason Kadaj is very up-to-date on almost everything that has happened when he and his brothers appear.

You feel and sense much that you do not fully understand, and you can be deeply influenced through the thoughts of others without realizing just how you are being affected.

Scarily accurate. The sentence relates to Kadaj in a completely literal way, for he mentions "feeling Sephiroth", which he does not quite understand. And, of course, he is deeply affected by the mind of Sephiroth, and through Sephiroth, Jenova, which he also does not quite comprehend.

You are often afflicted with an emotional intensity that is hard to control.

This statement agrees with Kadaj's nature, for he tends to very suddenly fly into violent rages and has frequent mood swings.
