It was a gorgeous summer day, and there was a lake nearby, complete with beautiful sandy white beach space. Amyla had, in her glorious wisdom, decided to bring the family to the lakeshore for a day.
The entirety of the family was there, happily playing on the sand. Erin, Kari, and Nieva had pooled their resources to build a sandcastle. Aiodhan and Amyla were relaxing under an umbrella, Caleb snoozing (and snoring) on Aiodhan's stomach. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.
Unless, of course, one included Kayce, who had climbed up a tree to escape the rest of the family. There she was, perched in a large oak about fifty yards from the lake. She was shielded from the sun by the leaves and branches above her, and she wasn't in any position to want to move. She was hiding and sulking and had no desire to go make contact with another living being. This was her tree, and she was staying here, damnit.

Oh gosh. Paen had not realized until now how demanding children can be when they want something. Especially Isdra. Tomboy's are such brats if they don't get what they want.
Lounging on the a bench near the lake. Instantly Isdra had dashed into the lake and ran along the shore, giving all the ducks that called it home a heartache. Malachi had desided to join her, until he figured out his pants go more annoying when they were wet. Pants made of 'denim' were not his friends he decided and shook violently to attempt to dry them off. He'd learned the first time he tried to strip them that Paen did not like that very much.
Walking back up the shore, Malachi contined to shake to try to dry his apparal. The tail that bugged his father so twitched and easily found the same wind that was blowing. It was weak near the ground, but it seemed to get stronger higher up. Unknown to him at the time, he pounced into Kayce's tree and stopped when he got to a branch next to her. Blinking at her, he looked over his shoulder back down to his now thoroughly freaked out father figure.

Deeply entrenched in her own mind, Kayce had been blissfully ignorant of what was going on around her. She was upset with her parents and sick of most of her siblings, and those thoughts (among various others) were floating about her head. Why were her dreams strange? Why had she bitten a sea monster? Was there a reason that she came out of a jar instead of being a normal child?
Her self-questioning and pondering came to an abrupt halt when something (or more accurately, someone) arrived near her in the tree. How on earth he (and it seemed like a he) had gotten up so high without her noticing was beyond her comprehension, but he had surprised her. Not sure what to make of the funny-looking thing, she simply gazed at him, torn between glaring at him for his interruption and staring out of curiosity.

Turning back to the girl, he blinked, realizing she was now looking at him. "Hello. Uw here for wind, oow?" he muttered, obviously putting much care into the word. Speach wasn't something he had mastered yet, but he continued to try to pick up on it more. His father was attempting to teach me.
Twitching more, Malachi's tail swayed back and forth. Eventually it began to bug him, so he just curled it around his leg with ended up altering his balance. Because he wasn't quite sure what else to do, he jumped over to the girl's branch, his tail straight out behind him and and pawed hands tight on the branch. He wasn't trying to get closer, he just would have fallen off the branch if he hadn't moved.

Kayce raised an eyebrow but said nothing. Strange boy. Could he not speak properly?
Her pointed ears twitched, and her eyes narrowed as the boy took it upon himself to hop over to her branch. Yes, he did have a problem with personal space, and she didn't like it. Extending an arm up, she grasped ahold of a higher branch and pulled herself up, seating herself contentedly on that one. Good. Now she had space.

Frowning at the fact that he had made her angry, Malachi looked up at her, leaning to the side to see her a bit better. "I sowwy. I istrub uw?" he stammered a bit unsure if she wanted anything to do with him or not. It sure as heck didn't seem that way, by any means. Or maybe she couldn't talk, he wasn't quite sure yet.

Kayce looked down at the boy as her mind quickly translated his odd dialect. Yes, now she understood him. But what did he want? "Yes. What do you want?" she asked him, her voice resuming its usual bland tone. Nobody was foolish enough to disturb her for no reason, especially when she was unhappy with someone or something.
Then again, she didn't know this boy, and he didn't know her, so perhaps he did not know that fact yet. No, he likely did not.

"Ohs... I sowwy... I's wash wondering if you'ze were heres for the wind, oow," he muttered, backing up a bit to give her some more space since she didn't seem fond of him. Not fond at all. That made him abit sad, but maybe she just wasn't a people person. Then again she might just not like him.

Kayce blinked, watching the boy as he backed away. "I'm here to escape my family," she said, settling a bit more easily onto her branch. Yes, this was more comfortable than the last one. At least being near this boy had some advantages. His presence had prompted her to moving to this more comfortable location.

Malachi swayed back and forth infront of her, pondering her. She intertained him, mainly because she was slighty un-predictably even in her silence. "Tehy distuwb ow, oow?"

After taking a good minute or so to puzzle out what he was trying to say, she simply nodded. Yes, her family had greatly miffed her. Her parents were having yet another kid. Joy. How much worse could the situation get??

"Why dat?" Malachi muttered as he seated himself on the branch comfortably. Most people didn't know how hard it was to find an enjoyable place to sit in a tree. It really was quite a challange. Finally finding a place, he settled himself cross legged against two other branches.

Kayce stared straight ahead, not blinking for awhile. She was still as a statue before formulating an answer. "My mother is having another baby," she said as tactfully as she could, her tone sounding quite pointed and not at all pleased. How could she be pleased? She didn't want another sibling to deal with.

"Why not happy?" he questioned wondering why. Though... he didn't like a few of his siblings either. Isdra was fine, but the twins could get annoying. "Babies ares annoying, buts you might like it when it older. Older kids ok sometimes," Malachi added.
(I'm so sorry for taking so long, Amy! crying )

Kayce tried hard not to betray her annoyance as she responded. "Babies stink and are loud. They also mean that Dad will spend less time swordfighting with me," she said, her lips turning down at the corner to form a faint frown. It was a trifle inconvenient, this. She wanted to swordfight, and Dad was going to be at work or caring for Erin all of the time so that Mum could tend to Caleb and the new baby. Stupid. Just stupid.
"I won't be this age when they get older. I'll be grown before they even become kids."
((S'okay, dear. --luffluff-- heart ))
