It's already been raging for a while in Israel, but Gregorian-style it's now Yom Ha'atzma'ut, or Israel Independence Day. Soo, go out and celebrate the creation of the State of Israel! May the 57th year be the best one for the land. heart

*Waves his Israeli flag!* On this historic day David ben Gurion (1886-1973) formally announced Yom Ha'atzma'ut - Independance Day- and publicly read the "Proclamation of the Establishment of the State of Yisrael" over the radio.....among other things he said: "The Land of Yisrael was the birthplace of the Jewish people. Here the spiritual, religious, and national identity was formed, Here they achieved independance and created a culture of national and universal signifigance. Here they wrote and gave the Bible to the world.......Exiled....the Jewish people remained faithful to it in all the countries of the dispersion, never ceasing to pray and hope for their return and restoration to their national freedom. Accordingly we, the members of the National Council met together in solemn assembly today and by virtue of the natural and historic right of the Jewish people and with the support of the resolution of the General of the United Nations hereby proclaim the establishment of the Jewish state.......to be called Yisrael....We offer peace and amity to all neighboring states and their peoples and invite them to cooperate with the independent Jewish nation for the common good of all... with trust in the Rock of Yisrael, we set our hands to this declaration at this session of the Provisional State Council in the city of Tel Aviv on Shabbat Eve, 5th Iyyar 5708, 14th day of May 1948."

Happy Yom Ha'Atzmaut! Wow, not being in JDS makes me very oblivious. I never know when the holidays are coming. It should be somewhere on my Jewish calender, but that's at home.

At my JDS, we got cupcakes. That's how I knew. xd Nah, just kidding. I try to keep myself somewhat up-to-date with these things.

My Hebrew teacher said there were but she's kind of crazy so I didn't know. :OOO that's so cool. Um, in my part of america we just have cupcakes or cookies or something and do israeli dancing (come to think of it, we do israeli dancing a lot... it's the only thing my hebrew school teachers know how to do X.X). It's not a big holiday, and it's not like, nationally celebrated, but it's fun. :3

And it really is everywhere (Lo Haya Shem Panuy called to invite me to her bbq but my dad was making so... xd ) Yom Ha'Atsmaut Eve is also probably the single most preformed evening in the entire year, a bunch of us went to see three different bands/singers in Ra'anana, and when I compared with my sister who went to a different place, it turns out one of the bands I saw (Sheigatz for that matter) she saw too. Only earlier. whee Intersting fact - Yom Ha'Atsmaut Eve is essentialy the same day as Yom HaZicaron Lehalaley Zahal (The IDF fallen and victims of hostile actions Memorial day), Emotional rolercoaster anyone? On an off note I'm beggining to dislike the fireworks, since they make my doggy go bonkers. xp I actually saw a man lying on top of his dog when they started the fireworks where I live, so he won't run away.

Are the concerts free, or does everyone just go and pay to see like a million people all in one night? How do you choose? @.@ XD Yeah, we celebrate Yom HaZikaron in the States, too, actually. It's so sad, but it's nice because you're not wallowing in sadness and depression for too long. What is with fireworks and independence? We have them on the 4th of July xp

What I went to was free (and kinda boring show-wise), and my sister had to payslightly more then 50 dollars to attend her show xd . As for the fireworks I suppose it's only natural that on the day we celebrate our independance, and inherent maturity within it, we like to make time to go after our true interest - looking at shiny things. whee
