I like Harry Potter. Tolkien... is too wordy with his descriptions, but that helped it make the transition to movies really well. The Chronicles of Narnia were great. Artemis Fowl is pretty good and the Pern and Xanth series... I cut my teeth on them. ^^

My favorite series by far has got to be the Belgariad and the Mellorian (two series, 5 books each) by David Eddings. ^^ The action is fast-paced and well written. For a series with a lot of major characters (about twelve in each book) they're all characterized pretty well.

I've also been enjoying the Deryni Series by Katherine Kurtz. I love how she handles the conflict between magic and the church.

Hmm... The Pern series is also known as the Dragonriders series it's pretty massive. I tend to call it the Pern series because that's the name of the world it takes place on and I also like the Harpers, which are like bards, more than the dragonriders. Anne MacCaffery is the author. ^^

The Xanth series is a fantasy spoof series by Piers Anthony. It takes place on a magical realm called Xanth which is like a parallel Florida. It's pretty wide, but again there's LOTS of books in the series.

David Eddings' is another author I mentioned, his books are basically quest stories with a lot of epic wars and such. The two series are connected to each other, having a lot the same characters and taking place on the same world. There are two follow up books, Belgarath the Sorcerer and Polgara (I think that last ones right, it might be Polgara the Sorceress...) He actually has four series out there, including the Ellenium and the Tamuli, which have only three books each. But they take place on a different world.

Last I mentioned the deryni series by Katherine Kurtz. That is about a group of people called deryni who have magic/psychic powers set in a world that's a lot like medieval Wales. there's a lot of conflict with the church because there are those who think the deryni powers are from the devil, so a lot of people keep their heritage secret.

You could probably find more info on a web search enjine as I'm not very good with descriptions. sweatdrop

I think I prefer Edding's other epic series better. The Elenium and the Tamuli. For some reason I like the knight orders and the cool magic better in that series than the Belgarion and Malorian. It has also been a while since I read those two so maybe I will work on that.

I loved, and still do, the Pern series. I also really love the Telepath series by McCaffery a lot too, I reread that one a lot.

I read many of the Xanth books, too many for me to keep up with, and highly suggest it to any one wanting to read Fantasy. His Adepts series was also pretty good, only read some of them though, never found the rest to buy/borrow.

I grew up on Tolkien so it will always hold a special place in my heart even though I have outgrown it too.

Never read Harry Potter or the Narnia series yet, plan to do so at some point.

The Wheel of Time is another really good series. I started trying to read it a number of times without ever getting past the first 100 pages of the first book. Once I did I was hooked.

The Sword of Truth series is another really good series. I have not read the last book since it has started to get kinda weird but the first 5 or 6 books are great.

I don't think I've met a series I didn't like yet. When it comes to books I am easy to please.

I personally like all of the series by Tamora Pierce. They have knights, magic, and monsters what more do you need.

I have to be ornery and say that I do not like the Harry Potter series that much. It has some good ideas but it is poorly written and very confusing (i.e. ages and pasts change from book to book. How did Bill go from about 30 in the first book and about 23 in the 6th?). They're not very well thought through.
