The gardens...were wonderful.

There were no gardens back there, in the theatre, except for the stage props. Here, the gardens were -

Wonderful.

Unable to help herself, Eponine started to sing as she walked along a path.

"In my life,
There's been no one like him,
Anywhere,
Anywhere where he is -

They'd kicked him out again, bloody badgers, no one in the kitchen there understood how to make a good Shepard's Pie. Twasn't his fault that he felt the need to storm back there and teach them.

And if the turnips had a mite of sense to them, they'd have listend as well. Ah well, could lead the horse to water, be damned if you didn't shove the things head in there too.

Surprised with himself, Shane found he'd wandered to the garden. Sure, and a lovely place it was also. For a moment, he felt the pang for home and it's rolling green hills. And his sisters gardens, a slice of heaven if there ever was.

Feeling nostalgic he kneeled down and snaped a flower out of the ground, twirling it in his fingers.

"I've been a wild rover for many a year
And I spent all my money on whiskey and beer
Now I'm returning with gold in great store
Sure I never will play the wild rover no more"

"If he asked - "

Eponine did a little twirl of joy, despite the mournful lyrics, then closed her eyes for the ending:

"I'd be h -

"Whoa!"

Eponine floundered for a bit on the ground which she had fallen, before looking up to see what she had bumped into. It was a man, one with hair as black as hers and extraordinarily blue eyes. He seemed normal enough. Nothing to worry about...just another human.

AHUMAN -

..."Hi?"

Feeling the mood strike, he went into the chorus with great feeling.

"And it's no, nay, never,
No nay never no more,
Will I play the wild ro..."

Had he not been singing so grandly though, perhaps he may've noticed he was about the be fallen upon. Trying to catch his weight and the person's who fell as well, he ended right on his rump.

Twas a beauty staring back at him though. Sure and he had pulse to prove it. Though she seemed a bit startled and a little un-nerved at the moment. Standing up and brushing himself off, he reached down to give her a hand up.

"'Ello there girly, I reckon we were the both of us not minding enough of our surroundings then?" He said with a genial smile.

Eponine hoped he hadn't noticed her singing. The song, along with her name, might lead suspicions to go where she didn't want them to go...But seeing as he had been distracted enough to not see her, perhaps he hadn't heard her either.

"I'm...very sorry! Very sorry!" she squeaked, ignoring the hand and pushing herself up. "I wasn't looking - where I was going - I guess."

Act normal. Act normal.

"My name is Eponine. And you?"

It didn't take a brain surgeon to figure this one needed space. Taking a step back, Shane lowered his hand. Scared, she was, of him, but not only him. Whatever it was, she didn't seem to want to talk about it obviously, which suited him just as well. Everyone had things that needed to stay in the past.

"Sure, and I wasn't much mindful either then. Not to worry though, no harm done." Ignoring his rigidly installed manners he didn't offer his hand for a shake. He felt she wouldn't take it anyway. "I'd be Shane then."

"Eponine, that's a pretty name, where do you hail from?"

Shane. Eponine stored the info away in her memory, before taking note of his next question. So it was normal to state the country? Or should you always wait till they ask?

"I'm from the...France," she said, taking a second to sort out her story. A pause. "Thank you, your name...is nice too." This conversation thing was a lot harder than she had originally planned; very different from the stage, where everyone had set lines.

There was another pause as Eponine thought what to next say. "Where are you from?"

The... France? Interesting... It seemed to Shane that something was a bit off from this meeting, but he kept his face in a grinning passive. Sure, and she could keep her secrets, long as they didn't screw with himself.

But, he couldn't help but chuckle when she paid him his compliment back. Twas probably the first and last that'd happen.

"Oh, me? I'm for the Emerald Isle, the most gorgeous place you can ever imagine." National pride? Just a little... Up the rebels.

"Emerald...Isle. Why is it 'gorgeous'?" Eponine questioned. "Where is it on the map?" Then blurted out, "Do you know where I can buy an atlas? I...lost mine on the way here." Another lie. Hopefully this one wouldn't be too tangled.

She looked rather alarmed when he chuckled. "Did I say something weird?" she asked anxiously, biting her lip.

"Ah? No, I've just not been complemented on my name before, that's all. Twas a nice thing of you to say though." Shane sent her a bemused grin.

"The Emerald Isle, tis also known as Ireland. It's home to wonderful hills so green you'd think you're looking at a painting. And some of the ruins... well... not ruins... I dunno, before the time mix it had the most magical ruins." Pondering a moment Shand continued, "You find it next to England and Scotland. And I believe you can find a map in the libarary here. I'm sure they'd let you borrow one. You planning on traveling much?"

Eponine still seemed puzzled, but she murmured a "You're welcome," and attempted a grin back.

"So it's like a really big garden?" Eponine tried to envision the 'wonderful hills so green' in her head, but only came up with a theatre stage painted a disgusting mucus color. "Do you have any pictures of Ireland?"

England and Scotland...more places she didn't know. She really needed that atlas. "The library...thank you," she hurriedly added.

Quickly, Eponine came up with another lie. "No, although I suppose in LOTUS you have to travel for the missions. I just want to...know more about the world." A little lame, but it would have to do.

Aye, there was something definitly odd about this one...

"Well, yes and no, it's a bit like a large garden, but no more than anywhere else I suppose. Minus the desert perhaps. I've a fair few pictures of the homeland in my room, I'll show them to you sometime. They've mostly got my family in them, but there's a few really nice ones that show what Ireland's all about."

Despite his love of his home, Shane sincerely hoped none of his missions took him wondering back to Ireland. Twasn't worth the headache of avoiding the relatives. "Aye, I imagine we'll be heading to a vast many places. Any you're looking forward to seeing in particular?"

"What's the desert like? Have you ever seen one? Do you have pictures of those too? What's your family like?" Eponine just couldn't keep the questions from coming. The answers could help her act more human, she reasoned to herself. And this Shane was fairly easy to talk to, for a human. Not that she had had an actual conversation with many humans...

The only place she really knew about was the United States. "N-New York?" she suggested. It was far away from California, so no one would recognize her there. "And maybe your...Ireland. It sounds - pretty - I guess."
PostPosted: Tue Aug 15, 2006 1:11 am

Well, she was a curious girly, wasn't she?

"The desert well, it's very hot and dry, with a lot of sand. Not a particular place you'd want to take a holiday at. Unless you're after seeing the pyramids. I've been to Egypt myself actually, fascinating if you like stuff of that sort. And I imagive there's a few pictures of that too in my album."

He paused for a moment... his family... well, there was no harm in telling her some basics. Twasn't as if she were looking to hurt them. "I've a sister and a brother, and both parents well and fine. My family runs a pub in County Clare, and no finer food you'll ever find, cept maybe by my hand." There was a fair amount of pride to his voice. "And if'n you find yourself in Ireland, you should stop by their pub."

"New york is it? I've a yen to go there as well. It seems a great place to shop and sight see, maybe see a show on Broadway too." Oops, his inner thespian was showing.

Pyramids...Egypt. Another place to look up. "I hope I can see your pictures someday. Are your family in those pictures too?"

"That's a big family," Eponine said. Not like she knew anything about families. Just one more thing to show her ignorance about the world. Then she felt a pang of anxiety when the discussion turned toward the food direction. "I can't drink," she said quickly before realizing how odd it might sound. "Alcohol," she added, trying to remedy her mistake.

The small twitch of nervousness metamorphised to full-fledged fear. "No! No Broadway!" They could find her there!
