Just curious, if you were invited to a LAN Party would you make the effort to go?
for example if you werent to go why?
distances?
cost?
people there?
and so on...

because I'll be co-hosting a LAN party starting next semester again and trying to get some more people to come
even though 100 is good, more doesn't hurt

here is the current layout we have been dealing with
2 rooms for computers, 1 room for consoles
and we sell drinks there

next LAN i'm planning to get wii so we'll have a wii station
ps3 probably too costly for me to get alone, so i'm leaving that up to one of my friends to get it

I've gone to 2 small ones before, with just a few friends.
It was wicked biggrin Staying up til 6am raiding Goldshire, then moving on to CS and Half Life...woot!

We used to do several a year with a club I was in in high-school (VICA rocked)

Is this for a purpose? (fundraiser or fun)
Where is it? (house or school or where)
How big are these rooms? (How many computers can fit....how many consoles in other room)
Do you have projectors available? (Console gaming on projectors is awesome biggrin )
Will you have DDR? mrgreen

I would attend a LAN party, if it was close enough to me and I got along with the people. The latter is usually the hard part. xD

Its at SUNY Binghamton University, we run it at least twice a semester now since the past two years
it didn't used to be a LAN Party but a UT2k4 tounry, but that slowly changed into a LAN

We can reserve also any room that isn't taken already, previously when it wasn't a LAN we took half the lecture halls, and you know those halls can hold up to 200 people each

Now that it is a LAN we are taking smaller rooms so we don't have to run around as much
It holds about 50-80 per room, and we had 3 rooms

We also had those large screen projectors which comes with the room as well as extra projectors on the side

DDR was an idea, but we didn't have the pads for it, we were considering to ask for help from the DDR Club, but didn't.

Purpose is more like a small fundraiser, its $5 entry fee

I've been to 3 LANs this year already, and I'm having one this weekend/next weekend.

The only problem with bigger LAN parties is everyone having the same games. Pretty much everyone has UT2k4 and CS, but for a 48 hour LAN, that's really not enough. Also, watch out for people acting like dicks, stuff gets broken easy at a LAN. My brother went to one at a University a few months back and one conversation he over heard went-
"Why didn't you use the grease tray?"
"I didn't even KNOW there was a grease tray until it caught on fire!"
Yes... Competant cookers they were xDDD.

But yours sounds well organised, I hope you have fun.

yeah, we also have a demo games offered on the local FTP server for anyone that gets bored and wants to play some other games
like last time we offered FEAR multiplayer demos, worms 3d multiplayer demo, and a bunch of other stuff i can't remember
but no one really cared for it, they just ended up doing their own things

and yeah there are always some people who are just annoying as all hell, especially the high schoolers we keep getting

we haven't had too much trouble with breaking stuff though, we make them sign something that if their stuff break it isn't our liability to pay for it, or fix it.
only thing that broke from what i remember was some stupid person just left their power supply laying on the floor several years ago and someone tripped over it, the wiring got ripped off

we also only do about 24 hours, since we dont' have enough man power to watch over everything for 48 hours, people get tired and bored from sitting there all day, and also annoyed that they are 'forced' into doing this on their free time.

I'd absoloutely love to go to LANs. Although I haven't participated in one in a long time, I did go with a couple of friends to root them on as their clan played in a tourney for Counter-Strike. It was quite exhilliarating!
