Reserved for Noelle, Kayce and Donovan and Aurion.

Maybe it was god moding that shuffled them around together. Probably it. Someone sitting behind a computer with not enough sugar in her system to be able to resist the temptation sadism brings along.

Or maybe it was a sign, from the heavens. Godlike, except, with a hungry, ravenous creature behind it all, working them for an extra inch of food. Excitement. Pleasure.

Whatever it was, Noelle felt the need to go find that dratted scientist than Noelle, Kayce and Donovan. Because... well, what if something had happened to him?

Although it probably wasn't concern at _his_ well being that disturbed them. Rather, concern of what would happen to them.

But it wasn't the stairs that called for them. No. Donovan and Noelle would know of a privatly accessed life that should work with their cards. Heck. If the cards worked on the doors, who knew?

Oh! Let's go up the stairs! Up the dark stairs! Noelle listened to the near-unanimous murmur of the fae around them and smirked, secretly. Sure, the stairs were a good choice... if one didn't know about the various shortcuts in the lab. Noelle certainly didn't know them all, but she knew a few; in her opinion, that was a lot more than the children knew.

"Donovan," She had greeted the male with soft purr, batting a pair of long lashes at him once. Graceful steps were made to make the gap between the two smaller. "It's been so long since we've seen another. It's a shame that we had to meet under such... restrictive situations." No, that pause was not her being cool- she'd forgotten the damn word. Good cover-up, huh?

The female made to lean against his shoulder boldly, but companionably. "You look so serious! You've got questions." She noted cleverly, green fingers reaching up to dip beneath the collar of her shirt. A card was drawn out casually between her fingers and flashed into Donovan's plain view. "I say you and I go look for Shy in the places our other... colleagues can't reach. What do you think?" She seemed to take notice Kayce somewhere in between sentences, giving the girl a calculative once-over. "Well, it looks like everyone is going to leave you behind. Would you like to come with us?" Noelle really couldn't care less if she did or not. To her, the girl seemed very self-righteous, and the teenager didn't like it at all. Of course, she wouldn't penalize the girl yet. Not until she had some proof of her theory.

It took all of Kayce's effort not to gag in disgust at the female fae's overtures toward Donovan. Gross! Was not that sort of behavior reserved for those in 'exclusive' relationships? Apparently not for her. In any case, she seemed to be lacking a sufficient vocabulary to express herself, which made Kayce like her even less. She hated it when people had to use trite, small words to make a point. Why not use the more specific ones? And 'restrictive' wasn't even the proper word for the situation, nor the sentence. Tsk, tsk... and this idiot was really older than Kayce?

At least the teenager did have the brains to ask her along. Kayce would rather be stuck in a group with this stuck-up witch than with Dierdre and the blonde boy. No, she didn't like this redhead at all, but she would deal with her. She wanted to find Shy, and since both of these fae seemed to have access to the lab, courtesy of those fancy swipe cards (ye gads, did she want one now too...), they were her best chance to locate the scientist. Besides, Donovan didn't seem to be too bad, even if he was a bit creepy. And if the redhead decided to get mouthy... well, Kayce was armed and quite dangerous and had absolutely no problem with swinging at the girl.

Her expression remained politely (more like blandly) neutral, however, and she nodded an affirmative. "Yes, I would."

Perhaps, perhaps, Aurion would feel the need to join this group? After all, he knew two of the fae by sight- how often had they met up? Once, in a room. Another, at the castle.

Maybe fate does have a way of drawing people together.

Whatever the case, Aurion feels the need to talk to Shy too. And this? Well. What better way of doing that then this?

The boy stiffened as Noelle addressed him and sauntered her way toward him, despite this Donovan still managed to utter a response to her statement - “Yes, quite the shame”. It made him uncomfortable to have her so close, not entirely sure how he was supposed to act in order to maintain a sense of pleasantness between himself and Noelle, and it took all his determination and will power to relax his posture as the female fae took the liberty of using him as a leaning pole.

“I’m sure I have no more questions then yourself” Donovan replied; his tone as low and even as it always was regardless of his inner distress. At Noelle’s question Donovan nodded, shifting his dark eyes to Kayce as she was invited to join them on their little quest. “I believe there is a private access lift close by, perhaps it will still work with our cards” the teenager volunteered as Kayce affirmed that she would be accompanying them.

A flurry of crimson announced Aurion’s arrival, Donovan catching his open question. “We’re going to find Shy, you are welcome to join us” Donnie offered, figuring that Shy, if they ever found him, would be grateful to see as many of them as possible. Besides, Aurion could prove quite and asset to any party.

Aurion was not too sure what it was that drew him here, but he knew he was glad that his mithril armor, thin, light but protective, was on under the flurry of his navy silk tunic and silk breeches of the same hue, his cape billowed out onto the ground behind him and a shealthed sword was on each side. He then looked at the others. He then spoke. " Whatever we do, best we find Shy... and be quick about it. If any of us are in any danger.. then he might know how to either prevent ir or he may actually need our help. "He said in a mature and Princely tone then a brainstorm occured. " Noelle, can you still use your power?" He then posed the same question to Donovan and then layed a hand on the shoulder of the younger fae. " How Rude of me.. I don't recall if we have met, but I'm Aurion." He said, introducing himself as he pondered that if something was preventing them from using their powers.. then they were in deep trouble for certain.

(( I honestly can't remember if they have met ^^;;; ))

She had been ignoring Kayce for the most part, as she assumed she should be. Not everyone liked Noelle or, to be more precise, hardly anyone liked Noelle. She knew it, and she could care less. In her opinion, little Kayce was nothing to impress and it only made her all the more satisfied when the girl ruffled indignantly. The teenager, whom had been making all sort of catty little comments about girl in her mind, took pity upon Kayce. Poor, poor little fae. Didn't she know how to have fun? In a way, the other female reminded her of her own guardian- stuffy, opinionated, and just a downright grouch. Of course, her guardian had a lot more class.

Words weren't everything and not everyone was naturally gifted with them. Noelle's language came in a series of body motions and subtle gestures and to her, words were frivolous and petty things. The disrespectful little wretch could flap her slobbery tongue about all she wanted, but if she tried to pull a blade on the teen with the intention to hurt her, she was going to be in for a great surprise. Right now, Noelle was playing. She knew the seriousness of the situation, of course, but she didn't believe they absolutely had to crack down on whatever right away. She hadn't seen these people in a while!

Aurion's arrival seemed to wake her up from that mindset, or at least somewhat. "Yes, of course I can. Or... I think so. Some of the sections in the lab are probably proofed for it. Let's not test them." Her eyes wandered to the swords at hips, lips tightening as she refrained from commenting on them. "Alright, let's go, then. Donnie, would you lead the way?" What's this? Noelle not in the lead? She must have changed- or maybe she had just learned. If whatever was ahead was threatening, she didn't want to be the first to be hit by it. The teen swayed between Donovan and Aurion, giving both the males their space for the moment.

Kayce very nearly gagged at the dramatic picture that Aurion presented. Honestly... how was that sort of clothing practical in dangerous situations? Add in the regal voice and self-righteous attitude, and the teenage fae just did not present an appealing picture. Then he had the audacity to put a hand on her. Honestly, was this boy ill?! "Kayce," she said in as neutral a tone as she could manage. No, they hadn't met before. She would have remembered this clown.

After listening to Aurion talk about powers for a moment, she was thoroughly bored and more than a little impatient to get on the move. Donovan said there was a private access lift nearby. That sounded like a good idea. And since Noelle seemed to suggest that the creepy (though very sensible and respect-worthy) fae lead their happy little group, Kayce was more than happy to go along with it. "I'm ready," she said, shifting the way her swordbelts crossed over her chest. The dratted things were still a bit big. Hopefully they would fit better once she grew a little.

Donovan offered a graceful shrug and a shake of his head in response to Aurion’s question. “I, like Noelle, assume that I can but have yet to try” he replied with muted pitch. Dark tresses shifted themselves forward as the teenager nodded in acceptance of Noelle’s request, inwardly plagued with doubts over his leadership ability. The last time he had been placed in charge of a small group had been in the castle, and he had been more then relieved when they had run into Ritsuki and she had taken charge. Perhaps he would be lucky and something similar would happen again.

“This way” Donovan stated softly, heading down a hallway that branched off to the right. “Stay together” the boy added as he moved, his words more a request then a demand. The hall proved to be a linear path which culminated in a door marked ‘Fae and Staff Only’. Opening the door and allowing the others to pass in ahead of him, Donovan entered the lift compartment and swiped his card in the available reader. Casting a dark gaze over the numbers, Donovan depressed the one marked thirteen.

((Well, Ru hasn't been around and NN posted a hiatus notice. I really hate to skip them, but if either of you two hop on and can post, I'll delete this response right away in order to keep the posting order. ))

Without a moment's hesitation, Kayce followed after Donovan as he led the way down a hallway. It occurred to her to look and see if the others were following, but she figured they could keep up. They were teens and well able to care for themselves, after all. Aurion was armed too, so they would be fine, even if they couldn't keep up with the pace Donovan was setting.

She did raise an eyebrow at the marking on the door but said nothing. She froze, then, as she saw what they were entering.

Room, tiny room with only one door, the door Donovan had just opened. Four walls, a low ceiling, a floor, and one door. A lift compartment. A small, enclosed lift compartment.

Despite the urgency of the situation, Kayce was rightfully hesitant to enter. She hated small spaces, small rooms, small compartments. She could tolerate walk-in closets (though just barely, and only when the door was kept open), but this really tested her limits. Still, they had to find Shy, and this seemed to be the best way to go. She stepped inside and set herself a good distance from the other fae and from the walls. Space. She needed a buffer of space.

She did have enough available consciousness to notice the numbered buttons and the one labelled '13' which Donovan pressed. Floor thirteen. That's where Shy was. Storing that fact away, she prepared herself for the closing of the door and the locking of herself in the tiny, cage-like space.

Aurion hestiatantly followed Donovan, his hands resting on his sword sheathes, the light playing over the white gold circlet around his forehead and the glowing feather on the chair around his neck cast off a glowing of its own. He looked over at Noelle and followed closely behind Kayce. " Something about this are is making my skin crawl..."

As it should, Aurion. As it was now, commandeered by this impenetrable darkness, the lab was a very intimidating place. It might have been hard to believe that once upon a time it was a sanctum for the Gaia-bound fae.

For a moment it seemed as if they would all be sitting in that darkness for a very, very long time with whatever was lurking just at the corner of every eye. But then, with a sort of sigh, the metallic doors to the lift slid shut and accepted its burden with a gentle upward push.

Up, up, through the dark shaft to who knows where. Maybe it was floor thirteen, and perhaps it wasn't. It wasn't as if the passengers would have any way of telling just where they were going, so smooth was the ascent.

Then, suddenly, a tremor rippled through the caged area, though it continued to run. Something had landed on the top of the cage, hooking invisible talons into the top. Perhaps they were a little more safe within the small space than Kayce imagined. Hot breath trickled over the passengers, present on the back of each neck; hungry, odorless. It could not have these fae yet, but it would. Just as quick as it had come, though, it was gone, flitting away without a sound. Just a reminder- they were not alone.

With a small bump, the lift came to a complete stop, then began to sink a little. A light flared to life on the panel- '13' it proclaimed, in glowing red digits. The compartment doors to the floor opened quietly, waiting patiently for them to exit... if they ever would. There were whispers coming down the hall if one listened, quiet murmurs in the dark. Perhaps, if the group was stealthy enough, they would be able to locate the congregation of voices and be able to listen in? Or perhaps they wanted to remain on the lift- who knew when that... thing might come around again.

Kayce stayed very, very still as the lift began to move. Her eyes were focused solely on the door, her peripheral vision picking up every tiny movement off to either side. Not that there was much movement. There were only three other beings in the other elevator, after all.

She felt it when something landed atop the lift cage. Her ears flicked slightly, and she could feel the thing breathing on the back of her neck. Greed... hunger... something dark wanted them. Baring her teeth in a silent snarl she tipped her head up to look at the ceiling, eyes narrowed as if to try to see the beast.

But then it was gone, and the lift doors opened. Face the beast from in here or face it from out in some place where they were on even grounds... it was such a very hard decision to make. She edged toward the door, flattening herself against the wall as she very carefully eased herself out into the hallway, her booted feet falling softly on the floor.

Watching the lit numbers move non-sequentially and the feeling the lift move invariably higher, Donovan’s being tensed in preparation to face the unknown into which they were ascending. He was nervous, almost fearful, but he masked it well. The air seemed to grow heavier as they moved, pressing in tighter around them, thick and seemingly dangerous.

The forced undulation that shifted through the metallic compartment startled the fae, muscles twitching beneath his dark skin involuntarily. Unscented breathe caressed the nape of his neck, conjuring feelings longing, frustration and hunger. The weight of the creature shifted and then vanished, leaving the fae alone once more. Despite this, Donovan suspected they would encounter the creature again before the night was through.

Another jolt indicated they had reached the end of their upward journey, the doors opening themselves a moment later. Muted voices crept down the hallway, although Donovan was unable to make out clear words or phrases. If we were to move closer…, thoughts within his mind began, cut sort of Kayce edged out into the hallway. Following the younger fae’s lead, Donnie pressed himself against the wall and stepped into the hall with silent footfalls.

Kayce sensed someone behind her, and she turned her head just enough to see the dark fae-- Donovan, that was his name-- moving out into the hallway as well. Her respect for him went up just a bit. He had some sense, then.

The voices down the hall, though, quickly distracted her. They were too quiet for her to distinguish specific voices, tones, words... but they were there. And she wanted to find them. Perhaps that was Shy. She continued to move quietly down the hall, her back pressed solidly against the wall and her feet very carefully, very quietly setting down on the floor with every step she took. She wasn't taking any chances. That thing from the elevator shaft was still around, and she didn't want to attract its attention without her knowing it was there first.
