The arrival of Erik into the guild has finally given me the push i need to start up this thread.
I have a love for odd words, not any old odd words though, alternative and imaginative cuss words, regional expletives and other delightfully satifying words, in particular ones that make no sense, but you gain immense satisfaction from using 3nodding
Swearing in general is very disappointing, when asked what their favourite swear word is the average person will wheel out the old favourites, F this, F that, yawn, that's so boring. Often digging up a few insults from 20 years back can have an interesting effect, calling someone something that they don't here all around them on a daily basis can have much more impact. Plus you get the joy of seeing them looking like this.. eek
So, now you know what i'm talking about, do you have any to share? Erik's friend, Cork, is of course the catalyst here. While America has a lot to answer for, as most countries do, it can provide a wealth of rediculous words for us to spit at the unsuspecting, and i for one am always keen to have new names to call people twisted
Of course having started this thread it would only be good manners for me to start the ball rolling myself, but as it's 25 to 5 in the moning, i'm not going to.

OK, Poppetta! biggrin My first post here will be an example of the fact that you may find it necessary to discreetly edit posts in here. I don't really know how rude will be TOO rude. So, here goes!
A bizzare & hilarious expletive I have heard uttered in the South: "s**t fire!" (Pronounced "Shet far!") This is apparently short for "s**t blue fire & save the matches!" A friend who is from Louisiana declares this originates from there. They apparently have a wealth of weird, fierce expletives in Louisiana.

lol i don't care if you're rude, not in this context anyway, and it's my guild so.. blaugh
That's great, it's just the sort of thing i'm talking about, it certainly gets the point across, but when you actually break down what was said you're left thinking WTF??
And of course regional stuff like that takes on a whole new dimension of strangeness when heard in a different country, when i'm awake enough to do it i'll have a trawl through Google for some good rural English sayings.
Maybe, if we find some really good stuff, we should trade and use each others terms in our own country and see how well they are received lol

Don't get me started on local accents! Being a 'posh' southern girl myself living in the depths of rural Lincolnshire can be pretty scary, if you come across a real local, they're completely unintelligible gonk

insultmonger.com is a good resource for finding multilingual profanity. "Ihre Mutter war die Königin des Bezirkes des roten Lichtes!"
'Beshrew you, vile fiend!' is also a good one I've used to my advantage several times. It's usually met with a blank stare and eventual response of '...Say what?'
