Not sure if this guild is still active...

But i decided to make a thread about website designing.

Post your opinions, tips, and anything else related to the topic.

I suggest using the 'border=_0' tag on banners/ pics with links attached otherwise the boarder might make the skin look unnatural.

Good idea. Also, I took a look at your "Teen Views" website. Looks like it could really be something, especially since you have a "clean" URL for it.

This thread could probably serve more as a "tips" thread for web code, as there's most likely going to be many different threads on web code in general. I personally am a professional web developer & designer, with an emphasis on database work and server code. My tip would be to stay organized, no matter what. Make a good folder hierarchy, and label your files and backups accordingly. It's a pain not knowing where a file is when you need it, only to find it after remaking it from scratch. (Never happened to me, lol, but it's a good suggestion for others. ;D)

(I know this is kinda old...)

PHP is your friend smile
Anyway, also, learn how to use MySQL. It will come in handy a lot.

((Aren't we supposed to be talking about website designing ? It don't think it has many things to do with PHP/MySQL sweatdrop Anyways.))
I always sucked at website designing myself, so I usually get other people to do it for me, or I take (with permission, of course ninja ) existing designs.
Either way, my best advice, why may not be very helpful since I'm not very experienced in designing, is to use CSS classes well, it makes the code much shorter, clearer, and understandable. 3nodding

Oh, yeah I guess so; they'd be useful everywhere but the actual web design. redface
Anyway... yeah, CSS is really handy as well

This has less to do with the code and more the design part. But I highly suggest you stick to a grid, so things line up and look natural. If the text doesn't quite reach the bottom of a menu, chuck some pics at the bottom so it does. If the header goes all the way across then everything else should as well.

I suggest this 'cos I got snapped at big time by my design lecturer for not doing these things.

You can do a site without having to use a grid - but it's harder.

I fail at actual site design (I'm kind of boring) but I pay attention to all these other random things. Damn my anthropology-fu!
