Nahodha'Kota has certainly started to grow. He boasted that his mane was already starting to show the fur on his forehead amazingly thick for a ub his age. Like all youngsters, he wanted to have his mane, he wanted to be a big lion with a huge ruff of fur, just like his dad. Of course, he wasn't like his father at all, his mother told him he was like her father, which pleased him, for though he wasn't like his two sisters, he was unique and the only male in their litter of cubs.

He had always been the largest cub in the litter any way and ads he grew it was becoming clear that his mothers rogue genes were making him in to a big burly lion.

He liked to be out and about during the day when his parents and sisters slept, though he was quite often joined by one of his family members on his adventures, today he was alone a black cub stark against the creams browns and greens of the pride lands. His paws though finally touched rock and he knew he had at last arrived. His father had informed him of pride rock and of the king and queen of the pride lands. He had never met the king or queen and had gotten it in his head to go out and greet them. He smiled to himself as he looked up at the large rocky mountain, with it's many facades and openings. He wondered which one would the king and queen live in? Sticking out his tongue he decided to ask the first lion he met where he could meet them, somone had to know right?

Priderock stood tall in the middle of the savannah, proudly thrusting up into the sky to be seen for miles in all directions. It was a landmark, but also a home to the pride that gave it it's name. The sun shone down hotly, heating the creamy fur of one of the inhabitants of the rock. On the tip of its jutting front lay a rather famous lioness, if only among her own pride and the few rogues that happened to pass through. Sarabi, queen of the pridelands, lay on the warm stones of her home and dozed. As she dozed, she dreamed.

The dreams were mostly of the past, as her thoughts often were these days. Her body was wasted and frail, and she could barely move without being reminded of it. These reminders often brought up memories of when her body hadn't been this way, when she had led her lionesses in the hunt like a true queen should. This was, in fact, the subject of her mid-day nap's dream. In the dream, she raced acrossed the waving grass, the golden stems brushing against her own golden pelt. Mufasa was somewhere behind her, even though lions don't hun with the females. She could feel, more than see, the other lionesses fanned out around her. Wingu, Sarafina, Kimondo, Mwinda, Suzuko, Dini... Lioness that were like her sisters. Sarabi's heart ached with a strange longing, as if these females that ran with her weren't really there, and she yearned to see them again. Yet she could see them when she turned her head to look. Shrugging her muscles shoulders, the queen ran on, her nose lifted into the air to scent the prey they had come for.

In the real world, the elderly lioness's paws twitched as she slept, her dreams sending signals to her prone body to get up and run. With a sigh, she settled again, slipping deeper into sleep.

'Kotas ears twitched as he heard movement from above his head and his coal black eyes shifted up the rocky face to land upon an elderly lioness. She would certainly know where the king and queen would be.

Hopping up the rocks he stretched his young mucles to their limit to drag himself up the craggy face, being careful not to stumble.

As he clambered over the ridge of the great pride rock. Nahodha'Kota puffed. That was some climb! Grinning though he bounced on up the sheer surface towards the dozing lioness only realising she was asleep when he was a couple of steps away. Pausing. He wondered if she would mind if he woke her. He did so want to see the king and queen. Sitting on his butt he looked up at the clear cloudless sky over head only to have his attention drawn back to the ground by the elderly females moving paws.

He was a little surprised to see her moving in her sleep. Padding over slowly he touched Sarabi's shoulder "scuse me maa'am are you okay?" he blinks his onyx like eyes curious and just a little worried. He'd never seen anyone run in their sleep before. Itw as kinda, well, weird.

The lanky body twitched and jerked at the touch of the small paw, crimson eyes snapping open as the queen was pulled upbruptly from her dream. Reality was slow in returning to Sarabi as she rolled onto her stomach, looking around blearily. "Hmm, what...?" She murmured, blinking quickly to try and clear her eyes. Memory slowly flooded her sleep-fogged mind, seating her firmly in the here-and-now. She was on Pridrock, dozing in the mid-day sun, and there was a cub infront of her.

A little frown creasing her brown, the queen's eyes fell to the cub with a curious gaze. A black cub with white markings, one she hadn't seen before. Priderock seemed to be crawling with cubs lately, with all the births going on. Clearing her throat softly, she let a smile slid acrossed her face. "Hello there, little one. What brings you way up here, hmm?"

'Kota watched silently as the elderly female awoke from her deep slumbre. For a moment she looked confused, dissorientated even though the youngster didn't pick up on this, he was just glad to see she was allright. that running in your sleep thing confused him but he allowed it to drift out of his furry ears as she spoke.

Grinning broadly the dark cubs eyes glimmered like little black onyx's "My dad says the king and queen of the whollleeeeeeeeee pridelands lives here so I came to see them" He beams his sweet childish features cracking in ababyish smile. He was after all still a youngster.

"D'you know where they are matey?" he tilts his head curiously, dropping almost accidentily in to his pirate speach. He did so enjoy spekaing like a pirate, ever since the big bird told him all about the sea and pirates he wanted to be one.

"Oh I almost forgot!" he sat and puffed out his chest the little white diamond mark upon his chest flashing in the sun "I'm Nahodha'Kota ma'am and my dads called mchelle and my moms called Kizuka. Dad said I had to say that cause then everyone knows I'm not a rogue cause dad says I should be proud to be a pridelander cause it's a really good pride to be in" he grins again, he beleived every word his father said and repeated it almost in a parrot like fashion. He did so idolise his father.

The little speak and exhuberance of the cub was enough to spark a light laugh from the lioness, her side shaking as she tossed her head. "Well, now! Its nice to meet you, Kota. I know your father, Mchele, even if I don't know your mother. My name is Sarabi, and I'm the queen. Mufasa is my mate, the king. So I suppose you don't need to look anymore, unless you want to find him." Her laughter trailed off into soft huffs as she panted. Laughing like that was a usual activity, and her frail state ment that now she had to catch her breath from it.

What a delightful little cub. He reminded her a little of Ger, if a bit more energetic than he was. Sarabi smiled as she rose to stretch, old joint cracking and popping. Cubs were always a joy to her, and there were so many now! Pridelanders, even if they weren't born here, seemed to be good breeders.

"Really?" 'Kota blinked looking sort of surprised. He hadn't expected the queen to be an old lady, he'd expected, well, he'd expected, he wasn't entirely sure. Grinning broadly he bowed his slightly fluffy noggin and giggled "eell s'nice to meetcha maa'am I be sorry fer desturbin' ya nap but I was a thinkin ya was gunna fall off or somethin'!" He chuckled, when he was nervous he dropped in to his pirate speach. Lifting his head slightly, he grinned sheepishly his coal black eyes fixing themselves on the pretty old lady. He could see perfectly well why she was queen, even though she was old she was purty!

A glimmer of admiration crossed the little cubs face as he spoke again "Wow you really know my dad?" He beamed puffing out his little chest again that white diamond bright against his stark black fur. "Dad just said you lived up here, he didn't say he knew you!" his grin widens, he felt proud of his father, he knew the queen and oprobably the king too! WoW!

A question flickered accross his mind as he sat there. "Dad says your names sarabi, but he says I should call you ma'am, cause I have to be respectful and stuff cause you're the queen, but I thought queens were a bit scary and junk, but you're just nice and purty so can i call you sarabi?" He paused his mind clearly ticking over what he could or should say next "Maam?"

Shifting to stretch out first one paw then another, Sarabi studied the young black cub with a smile. His little accent, though she knew it to be a made up one, was adorable. "Oh, I had a long way to wiggle before I fell off, Kota. No need to worry." The queen chuckled again, her tufted tail flicking before she settled down on her haunches and began to groom on forepaw, speaking between licks.

"Well, in most places it would be correcty to call me 'Majesty' or 'Highness', but here at home Mufasa and I don't really think its neeful. So really, you can call me whatever you like. Sarabi is perfectly fine, since it is my name after all." She smiled as she dropped her paw and raised the other to clean, washing it over her face as well. The impromptu bath was refereshing, and helped to clear the dregs of sleep from her mind.

Remembering what he'd said before, Sarabi finally set both forepaws before her and tilted her head to the side as she watched the cub. "You said you wanted to see the King and Queen, dear. Did you have a special reason, or did you just want to meet us? I'm afraid I don't know all of the pridemembers, especially all the young ones, so its nice to get to meet one like you."

'Kota grinned, he thought 'maa'am' sounded an awful lot like 'mum' and though sarabi was nice and purty, she definately wasn't his mum! With his tail wriggling happily the dark cub settled to listen tot he queen of the pridelands and watch her intently with those coal black orbs, he was curious, how did she get to be a queen? What was a king? Infact what was a queen? what did they do up here? Scrunching his brow the black male took a deep breath and launched in to his questions.

"Well sarabi, my dad said you guys lived up here but I unno why." He paused for a moment looking thoughtful "what be a king and queen be doin any ways? My mam she says she ust ta be a rogue an she be goin every where an stuff, but she said noone rules them thar rogues. Dad says I'ma pridelander an I likes bein one," He pauses and nods an affirmative at this point his ebony orbs glimmering proudly, he knew his fathers heritage was important. "Still I be a wunnerin, what be a king and queen be doin'?" he tilted his head curiously, the question circling his mind over and over, what did a king and queen do exactly?

His father always said his curiosity was a good thing and he should ask questions but sometimes he could ask one too many. Still, he grinned broadly looking up at the elderly queen rather fondly, she was pretty in an old lady sort of way and she shone with a sort of, weird way which made the little black cub feel safe, welcome. Maybe thats what kings and queens did. Made things safe?

Sarabi chuckled and flicked her tail, thinking for a moment before replying to him. Curiosity was a good thing, most times, and the queen liked to encourage the cubs in it, as long as they were careful.

"Well, a King and Queen rule over a pride of lions. They are the leaders, and are responsible for all sorts of things." She said, settling easily into the role of mother/teacher. "For example, before I had my cubs I used to organize the lionesses for hunts to bring back enough food to feed the entire pride. Mufasa is in charge of making sure no dangerous creatures like hyenas come in the Pridelands. Most times, the pridemembers listen to what we have to say, and they can come to us with questions or things they need. We're sort of like... a mother and father for the whole pride."

Her smile was a little shy as she hoped she'd explained it right, that he understood what she was trying to say. In other prides, the role might be drasticly different, but here, it was just as she said. Sarabi and Mufasa cared for the pride like a great big litter of cubs, making sure they were fed and safe and healthy.

'Kota listened intently to the queens words. Oh so Sarabi was a mother then? He wasn't that surprised really! she sounded like a mum! She was a speial mum though she looked after everyone. Grinning the dark cub nodded before speaking "Oh I see! So you're just like my mum only you're everyones mum?" he giggles wriggling his tail happily.

"You have you kids though huh? Are they grown up with big fluffs or are they just youngins like me?" he beams though decides to change his sentence "Wull not like me cause i'm a big lion! I'm getting my bigg fluff already see!" he tilts his head forwards to show the female the slightly thicker fur on his forehead that so far was nothing at all like a mane. "Mum says when i get a big bigger I'll have a big black mane and be able to roar really loud and protect my family and stuff" The youngster grinned toothily at this, he liked to beleive he was going to be a big lion who could protect his mother and sisters from everything.

Sarabi chuckled again as her tail twitched gently, sweeping over the dusty stone of Priderock. How good was life, when one got to laugh as much as the old queen did? Cubs were such a wonder, and a blessing. "Yes, I am kind of like everyone's mum. It makes me happy to take care of them like that."

She smiled at his many questions, sifting through his words to put them in an order she could answer them and not be too confusing. The wooden beads of her necklace clicked softly, ruffled by a soft, teasing wind as it flitted around the pair. One dark, small and young; one light, bigger and far older, they made quite a picture as they talked. "I have five children still living, Kota. Two died at a young age, but those that made it are adults now. Two of them have 'big fluffs', and three of them even have children of their own." The queen reached forward to gently ruffle that little puff of fur on his head with her much larger paw, a low purr-like rumble escaping her. "I bet once your fluff grows in, you'll be quite the handsome lion, with a great, big, happy family to protect." Her smile was soft and sweet for this little cub with his big ambitions.

The young dark eyed male grinned toothily at Sarabi, she looked like a mother to everyone, it certainly suited her.

Of course when the old queen spoke of her own childern nahodha'kota went wide eyed. "Wow thats alot! , my mum says we are a right hand full the three of us!" he paused for a moment cleraly contemplating what to say next "it musta been really hard being a mum to everyone as well as to your cubs huh?" he tilted his head. 'Kota could be surprisingly deep when his mind got to working.

He puffed out his chest proudly, being told by the queen that he would be handsome made him swell with confidence. "Aye lassy i'ma gunna be a guurreat big lion an I'ma gunna make sure that noone urts me lil sistars dontchaknow?" He grins, trying to soudn brave and piratey at the same time was hard work, but he thought he'd certaily pulled it off quite nicely.

Sarabi nodded as she listend to his bold words, though his accent was certainly not Pridelander, despite his being one. Made it hard to understand, if she tried to concentrate too hard on it. Just letting it flow over her made it much easier.

"It is hard, but I love to do it. Besides, all my cubs are grown up now, with cubs of their own, and most of the pride is too. Its not as hard as it once was, and I'm glad of it. I wouldn't be able to keep up otherwise, I'm afraid." A light shake of her sleek head set her wooden-bead necklace to clicking softly, her smile sweet and kind. "You have sisters, you said? How many, Kota?"

Mchele... yes, she remembered that particular cub, now long grown like her own. She remembered the day Bahkti brought them to her for approval, and to ask for her own mate's acceptance into the pride. How small he'd been then! And now, a little black male cub to follow in his steps, it seemed. And daughters too... The queen wondered if they looked anything like his sister, Kiburi. That one was lost now, a much sobering thought. She'd disappeared without a trace, much to Bahkti's grief.

'Kota beamed, he enjopyed talking of his own little family, that tight group whom he hoped to one day be able to protect from all the baddies in the world. "I have two sister's maa'am, but they arn't like me." he giggles a little and settles a little more comfortably his but on the ground and his toes just slightly curled towards the stars "See my mom she's white and puink and dads brown and darker brown" he grins broadly looking thoughtful "and my sisters they are pretty mucht he same, but me I'm black" he nods an affirmative his coal black eyes dancing in a pleased sort of manner. "It's okay though I just takes after my grandad, mum says so!" he beams at that, proud of his heritage.

"Any ways" he pauses and looks thoughtful "it was moighty noice ta be meetin' ya maa'am but I be a reaconin' my folks will be wonnerin' where I ave sailed orf to! Arg!" he chuckles, he couldn't quite get the real piratey accent down as hard as he tried to. "I be seein' ya sarabi.!" he grins in a rather cheeky cubbish manner as he turned and started to hop back down the way he came. he paused though and came scuttering back rubbing his cheek against sarabi's pale fur "Thankee for talkin' with me" he smiles toothily, flashing those pale pearly teeth at the elderly qyueen. "You're very nice" he nods and turns once agaion plodding back off down the smooth surface of pride rock.
