 Nahodha'Kota was so excited! He had started to grow, and he was prety sure his mane was already starting to show! He was pretty certain of it acctually, he had quite the amount of fur on his little head now which he took pride in fluffing when ever he could to dry and make it look like a mane. Of course he knew one day he would have a great big fluff just like his dad but like all cubs, he wanetd it now and prided himself in telling everyone of his flourishing hair!
His father had come to him today, he was old enough now to travel in to the graveyard, his father was to go and visit his uncle and he had been invited along. He certainly was no longer a tinmy cub, he was growing up and was still larger than his two sisters. Clearly his rogue mother had provided him with a gene that was going to make him a rather large lion when he eventually grew in to that big fluffy mane.
Sticking close to his dad, his coal black eyes searched upwards, he admired his father, he was really brave and not at all scared of the graveyard! He couldn't wait to see uncle Ausha again, just to tell him about how brae his dad was. Uncle Ausha was awsome, he lived int he graveyard all the time! He was maybe even braver than his dad, though he doubted it. Upon the top of a skull, not too far away, Frittilaria lay with her fore paws crossed, she was scouting. Rasuli was teaching her alot about the graveyard ways, she was willing to learn and glad that Rasuli was teaching her everything he knew. Smiling to herself she was almost in a dream like state when the two lions swam in to her vision. What the heck? Yapping she skidded down the skull "rasulli! Rasulli!" she called ehr tail wagging like mad "Theres a coupla lions out there!" her blue eyes flashed her tongue lolling excitidely. These were the first lions she had seen tresspassing on to the hyenas territory. they must have been lost not even the lion graveyard pride ventured in this far. She wondered what rasulli would have her do. She was excited to learn from him first hand.

If Mchele was afraid of being in the graveyard, he didn't show it. But that was mostly an act for little 'Kota. His son was ever so proud of having him as his father and Mchele couldn't help but want to live up to his expectations. So he quashed the butterflies in his stomach and held himself tall.
"Keep close 'Kota." He reminded the growing cub. Indeed, the black and white lion was bigger now but to Mchele's mind he was still very small and in danger. "If you got lost in here you'd certainly end up as breakfast for some slobbering hyena." He gave his son a wink to reassure him, and himself.
Mchele's worry wasn't unheeded though. They'd failed to find Ausha close to the boarder and the pair were now having to explore further into the graveyard. Mchele had a vague idea of where Ausha's lair was, but it was still risky business coming this far in.--- Behind a nearby pelvic bone, Rasuli was drifting somewhere between sleep and wakefulness. There were a few more benefits of having an 'apprentice' that he'd discovered. Not only did he get to spread his knowledge, it also gave him an extra pair of eyes to keep watch when his got too tired. 'Shifts' he called it. So one would always on guard while the other rested and kept their strength up.
Fritti's cry cut through his sleeping mind like a knife though and in seconds he was wide awake. "What? Slow down and spit it out so I can understand you." He replied, getting up and shakin himself off when she rushed over. She was overly excitied about something and he swore he heard her mention the word 'lion'.

'Kota grinned proudly, his father was so big and brave. "I won't go any where dad!" he beams weaving between his fathers front legs. Growing up though he was, he still looked up to his father , he was after all a defining figure in the youngsters life, he was his hero, the way all fathers were.
"when we find uncle Ausha I'll tell him how cool and brave you were and how you faught off lots of hyenas to get to him," he grins, he could imagine his father taking on thousands of hyenas! He was a big brave lion, who he idolised.
Frittilaria calmed down slightly, her tail slowly to a wave her ears flattening and a smile coming to her lips closely followed by a little laugh "Theres two lions coming this way, one big one small! I reacon we can take um!" she smiles her midnight blue eyes flashing. She wanted a chance to proove herself to Rasulli, to make him proud of her.

"Good." Mchele smiled down at the excited youngster and kept up his quick (but not too fast) pace. The quicker they found Ausha the better Mchele would feel. He didn't like being out in these rather unknown lands.
"Haha, I hope it doesn't come down to that 'Kota!" He chuckled as the black cub's words tickled him. "I think I could manage a hundred though." But he'd much rather there be none.
Keeping his head up and eyes peeled, he continued on... yet failed to notice any sign of the nearby pair of hyenas.--- "Two lions?" Rasuli looked at her and then hurried back the way she had come, where she had been keeping watch, leaving her to follow him. The pair of felines had moved on a little way when he got there and he peered around while trying to keep to the shadows. But he did spot them, walking away, further into their lands.
His eyes widened slightly at the sight of an adult lion. It was huge! And certainly a risk to just a adolescent and pup such as himself and Frit. He growled low in his throat and turned to speak to Frit, fully expecting her to keep pace with him and be at his side.
"See that? See how they stroll in here as if they own the place? And with their young too. If that doesn't show you their arrogance then I don't know what would. Hmm... the adult's big and a male too. It'd be hard to take him with just the two of us. Remember, our best strength against adult lions are our numbers. The pack is strongest together." He stated firmly. "But the cub... he's barely bigger than you. Perhaps..." And he grinned as an idea formed in his head.

Nahodha'Kota grinned broadly. He knew his father could take on a hundred thousand hyenas and win! That was pretty obvious. Weaving in and ou of his fathers fore paws the youngster hopped about eager to see his fathe rin action against the slobbering beasts.
Hyenas seemed to be an elusive beast today though, they hadn't even heard their laugh, his motehr had told him all about hyenas, the way they made weird laughing sounds which broke the air and let you know they were coming. They were obviously hiding though! Why wouldn't they! They were clearly terrified of his dad!
~~
Frittilaria was of course right on Rasullis heal, her nose touched his shoulder blade to let him know she was beside him, her keen dark blue eyes watching the receeding lions.
She nodded an affirmative as she listened to the knowlegable words of her elder. She knew Rasulli was clever, very clever. She almost idolised the older male, finding him to always be full of advice and good ideas. She grinned whens eh saw that flicker in his eyes, a flicker of a brain storm, flashing her pearly white puppy teeth she nodded "what do you want me to do?" she yipped her feathery tail whipping around behind her.

"kota's eagerness wasn't mirrored by Mchele. In fact he felt slightly worried that his son was taking the graveyard so lightly. He hoped perhaps it was only because he felt safe with his father around. He did want to emphasise the danger of this place... without endangering his son. Hmm... maybe Ausha could tell him about it.
"You know, Ausha met the most vicious of hyenas here, back when he was a cub, like you." He told the youngster. "She attacked him and hurt his shoulder, that's why he has the scar. He was fortunate his mother was around to rescue him though, or he'd have been dinner for sure."--- Still grinning, he turned to give her a quick glance. "We can't let them just wander in here, you know that. And sometimes the best way to remind them of that fact is to punish those who you have a chance of winning against. The adults remember the death of a child, they'll know it was their fault for bringing it here." He nodded to Fritt, pleased to see she was eager to hear his orders.
"Ok, here's what we're going to do. I'll go around to the other side of them and distract the adult. Don't worry, we won't be taking him on, I don't want you getting hurt." Which was also part of the reason why he decided he'd take the role of distracting the more dangerous of the lion pair. "When he notices me, I want you to go for the cub. Don't attack it here though, he'll still be too close. Chase it off deeper into the graveyard. We'll separate them. Okay, got it? Now just wait for my signal."
And with that he quickly slipped away, loping off through the bones with practiced silent footsteps.

The black male paused and looke dup at his father his brow creasing "Really?" He paused for a moment the dark males brow creasing as he contemplated the fate of 'uncle Ausha' "He must be very strong now though" he stated his tail twitching eagerly his dark coal eyes looking hopeful. "He lives here all the time right?" he smiles wistfully, he wasn't too worried with his father around. Besides, what could a hyena possibly do to his dad?
"You're much stronger than they are dad right?" he beamed brightly his coal black eyes sparkling "as long as you're here we're safe" he smiles and curves between hus fathers legs once again showing confidence in the older male.
~~~
Frittilaria nodded, her large, dark blue orbs staying fixed upon the receeding backs of the two lions.Taking a deep breath she licked ehr shadowy lips and stared to sneack towards the pair. She was small and slender, and keeping tot he shadows of the bones was easy for her. She just had to wait for Rasuli's signal. This would be so much fun, they were going to traumatise these damn lions! That would show them, how dare they tresspass in hyena territory!
As Rasuli drew close to where he wanted to be, near a pile of elephant ribs that he'd be able to weave through, he deliberatly kicked a few stray bones. The clatter would definatly cause curiousity in the lion and then he'd show himself.
And indeed they did attact Mchele's attention. "He does and he is much stronger. But it was a close call." Mchele was telling 'Kota when the noise Rasuli made caused him to look in that direction.
Rasuli grinned as his plan started to work. He let out an eerie hyena laugh then ran around, in and out of cover so that he would be seen.
At the sound of the canine cackle, Mchele felt chills run down his spine and his fur stood on end. There were hyenas around. He was hoping for too much to go through the inner graveyard unnoticed.
"Keep alert 'Kota." He warned his son, eyes looking about for another glimpse that might tell him where the hyena was. He lifted his head and roared, hoping to scare off the other preditor.
Nahodha'Kota paused for a moment as he heard the laughter of the male hyena, he slipped between his fathers fore legs watching for the horrible beast. His onyx eyes searched for the creature watching it move around. Of course when his father roared he felt even more confident. His father was so brave. Smirking he added his own some what miniscule roar to his fathers loud big lion sound tipping his ears forwards to see if they scared off the horrible beast whom was stalking them.
Sneaking up behind the two lions Frittilaria smirked, oh really, they were supposed to be frightened by all this noise? They'd wake the dead. Rolling her blue eyes she slipped between Mchelles back legs and tugged the young males tail, HARD, a smirk creased her lips, "hey kitty wanna come play?" she backed away slowly gettoing out from under the big male, hoping her taunt would pull the youngster out from between the older ones legs.
'Kota looked behind him surprised his tail had nearlly been pulled from his butt "Hey!" he snapped turning to face the small heyna. "why you!" he growled stalking towards the female, using his fathers body as a sheild until he broke out in to the dusty ground. "Dirty beast how dare you!" he growled.
He had to admit, that was pretty fearless thing to do - to sneak right underneath an adult lion and tug at his cub! Rasuli gave another cold laugh, echoing around the bones. The roar flattened his ears a little (they were noisy these lions) but he didn't run as the Pridelander obviously expected him to.
Mchele went to roar again, the noise blocking out the sound of 'Kota and Fritt below him. But as it died away he realised there was no accompanying cub-roar from 'Kota. Tearing his eyes from where he suspected Rasuli to be, he risked a glance down at where his on had been. "Kota, I think we ought to- 'Kota?!" He gasped as he realised the black cub was not safe between his forepaws.
The other hyena forgotten, he spun around and saw a young black hyena with 'Kota stalking after it. "No 'Kota! Come back, stay with me!" Though the pair of black and white youngsters were similar in size he couldn't risk 'Kota going off when other hyenas were about.
Moving to leap after the pair and send the female pup running, he felt a pain in his hind flank and roared with shock and pain.
Rasuli had picked his moment. As the adult turned his back, he'd sprung from his place and prepared to join Fritt with cub, aiming to chase it away from its father. But it seemed the adult had realised too soon and was going to go after his pupil.
He couldn't let that happen! She stood no chance against a full-grown lion. And so he'd taken it upon himself to delay him. Canine teeth bit and grazed the lion's leg before he let go to call to Frittilaria. "Run Fritt! Chase it in deeper!" He yelled out.
Frittilaria laughed a smirk on her maw. "Come on kitty!" she yapped her tail wagging in a manic fashion as she watched the young black male lion. Gods these creatures were easy, they just followed, what idiots! Didn't they realise this was hyena territory?
Of course, 'Kota paused whenhe heard his fathers voice, he was starting to feel very confused, fear passed over him as his hero roared in pain. He stopped in his tracks, what was he supposed to do? Glancing at the black and white hyena female he growled and prepared to pounce the beast "What have you done to my dad?" he snarled his tail lashing. For another moment, he hesitated, looking back at his father, maybe, he should just rejoin the older lion. Growling he inched backwards, there was something fishy going on here!
Frittilaria snapped when she realised her taunting was no longer working, she would have to atatck the cub to make it follow, picking her moment she darted forwards as 'Kota turned his head "whimp, pussycat!" she bayed hopping back to where she had come from, maybe this would work, maybe not, it depended how gullible the youngster was.
"Ow!" lifting his paw, he looked at the bloody marks which seeped slowly through his black fur. He frowned, this wasn't good. His ears flattened now, it was all well and good being brave, but being stupid was another thing entirely. "Dad!" he called, deciding to risk it and turn himself around he ran back towards his father.
Mchele turned and growled as the hyena let go to yell commands at its companion. It was obviously a trap, the pair working them both to get separated and lost. Mchele might survive such an outcome but he feared greatly for 'Kota.
Making a swipe at the male hyena, it lept backwards and the Pridelander used the opportunity to turn back for his son as he heard him call out. All thoughts of adventure and visiting Ausha had vanished for now, the only thing that screamed in his head was to get 'Kota.
Fortunately for him his black and white cub wasn't falling for the canine's plan and was running back. With a mighty leap, Mchele jumped forward to land protectively over him - now he just had to get them both the hell out of there!
Rasuli dodged the raking paw more by luck than anything else, the wind whistled as the claws missed him by inches. "Watch out Fritt!" He called... which he might have considered odd had he had time to think about it. To warn her for her safety rather than tell her to get the cub again? But as it was, he didn't have time to think anything about it.
Dashing forward again, he reached the pair of lions just as the golden one stood over his cub. With a snarl he lunged to bite the male's neck, getting a mouthful of mane more than a grip on the body.
Then his world was filled with pain and darkness...
As the weight of the hyena hi him again, Mchele staggered. He hoped briefly that 'Kota didn't get stepped on but instinct took over and his survival took priority - after all, what chance did 'Kota have by himself against a pair of hyenas? A heavy paw swung round and hit the hyena across the neck and jaw, managing to dislodge it and send it stumbling back.
Mchele didn't look to see if it got up again. Immediatly he went to pick up 'Kota in his jaws so he'd be able to run with him.
Rasuli whimpered as the white paw of the lion knocked him away with a hard blow. Normally he would have tried not to show that sort of weakness but it had been unexpected and painful and the sound was out before he had a chance to stop it.
The momentum caused him to fall and skid a couple of feet away, ending up on his side. His head swam and pain seared through his jaw and neck where he'd been hit.
For once the dark male was glad to be carried, normally, e would have protested but this was no place or time to be playing about at being brave. he stayed still so his fatehr could carry him a little easier his paws bunched against that white diamond upon his chest. "Thankyou dad" he whispers the laughs of the hyenas echoeing in his ears. he was frightened. and he didn't understand why those hyenas wanted to hurt them so much! They were just here to visit uncle Ausha.
he went silent then, thoughtful, why did the hyenas hate them? he would have to ask, once they were free of this dark, barren place.
frittilaria was certainly not fool enopugh to take on an adult lion all on her own, she would have to be insane, she snapped at it's ancles as it ran past but she was more worried about Rasuli. "Rasuli! Rasuli!" She shouted, she was genuinely worried about the soft dusky hyena. "They got away" she growled nudging nervously at her tutor, she didn't want to seem like a coward, but if Rasuli wans't there she would probably be puppy chow, damn those lions!
Growling she laughed her long eerie laugh allowing it to echoe through the graveyard, it was a promise of revenge upon the beasts who had tresspassed upon their lands.
Her attention soon fled back to Rasuli though, the male, her firend, she adored him, as sort of a big brother, mentaur, tutor sort of way what was she supposed to do without him? he wa teaching her to be a real hyena. She supposed she'd find somone else to teach her but Rasuli was already there. She nudged his shoulder again looking for any scraps, scratches or cuts. "Come on Rasuli, you can't go dying you havn't taught me everything yet" she grinned, those sweet blue eyes flashing cheerily as she said it. Maybe she was getting too atatched to rasuli, she didn't care, she didn't want him to die.
The adult lion scooped up the juve in his jaws. Despite being a quickly-growing boy, 'Kota was, fortunatly, still small enough to be carried and Mchele was glad he didn't wriggle or squirm. The last thing he wanted was to accidently drop him! Especially with a hyena snapping at his paws!
He bounded along with long quick strides, trying to cover as much distance as he could as fast as possible. He didn't recognise the bones they passed, only hoping they were going in the general direction that they came. He even began to panic, worried they were headed further in, until the scattered bones began to disperse and the mist cleared. Mchele didn't stop running until they had reached the boarder of the Pridelands and then passed through it by about half a km.
At last he slowed and relief flooded through him. Unfortunatly now that the adrenalin was no longer needed and started to disappear, the pain in his hip made it through to his senses. He stopped, put 'Kota down and sat, panting for breath.
"Kota - you ok? Did you get hurt at all? Let me see you." His voice slightly wavering with the recent exertion but his face one of fatherly concern. Only after he was sure his son was ok would he tend to himself.
Back in the Graveyard Rasuli groaned at the nudging. So long at Fritt didn't nudge his head it wouldn't make the headache any worse. The laughing didn't help though. "Uhhrrrr...."
He blinked open his eyes, to see what she was doing and if the lions had come back for her (or him). No, they were on their own it seemed and the female pup had come back to nudge him again. "I'm not.. not dying." He murmered falteringly as he worked his sore jaw. Pulling himself up to show just that, he staggered and sat down heavily. He hadn't realised how dizzy the blow had left him. A moment's rest and stillness should fix that though.
While he waited he tried exercising his jaw. Biting down too much hurt so he soon stopped that. It was badly bruised but nothing felt broken. It might be a little grazed too but touching it gently with the inside of his foreleg revealed there was only slight bleeding. Satisfied with himself, he looked up and ran his eyes over his apprentice. She didn't appear any worse for wear and he nodded to himself.
"They've gone? Which way?" Not that he intended to go after them like this, but if they had gone back out of the Graveyard at least they would have succeeded in chasing them away.
"Dad! Ack dad I'm okay!" he brushes against his fathers front paws peering down tot he scratch which the hyenas had afflicted upon his golden father. He smiled and curled between his legs showing that endless adoration for his dark maned father "You did great dad" he whispers nudging his fathers chest and toes affectionately. He was proud of his father, he was so brave against that hyena. When he was bigger he'd go back and show that hyena for hurting his father! Puffing out his chest that little white diamond flashed in the sunlight. "Maybe we shouldn't go in so far next time" he grins and laughs softly, he wasn't about to be put off going and finding uncle Ausha, but not today, his legs were feeling like jelly at this point. He was just so glad his fatehr was there. his protector, his hero. "You know what dad? You sound hyoooge when you roar, it's all like rawar!" he beams and curls in and out of his fathers limbs copming to a stop by the scrape on his hind leg. "Can I help?" he grins, looking brave though the scent of his fathers blood scared him, he knew mcele was made of far sterner stuff ansd one little scratch like this was nothin'! Right?
"Yeah they headedf for the edge" she stated simply looking her friend over. She was trying, though failing quite misserably to look nonchallante. She was supposed to be tough like Mafa, but she cared for Rasuli. "damn lions, least we got rid of them!" she spat a smirk raising on her lips. What better way to hide worry, than to act cocky?
"Next time we'll take um down, I nearlly had that cub, stupid lions." she smiled, her smile some what serene as she looked over the grey male concern in her deep blue eyes. "Just don't go dyin' on me alright? Who could I bother if I didn't have you hmm?" she laughed softly, it was almosty a sweet sentiment, almost.
