Head's up to the pro-choice guild!
We can unite over the common value of a woman exercising her fertility rights. However, we can ALSO express dissent, disagreement, and opposing and unpopular values on other issues... and not be banned or ripped apart for it!
WE VALUE FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION!
Could you really say that for the pro-life guild? wink
Yea, we've had posts and topics here chastizing pro-choice behavior (while not singling out members)... I empathize with the concerns that we may look like walking stereotypes (yeah, we all burn babies at stakes while blaspheming Jesus and s**t... hurrrrrrrrr.. ok NO.)
Do we really want to impose "moral standards" on the whole group, though? I mean, sure, I love it when despite how much of a b***h I look, we can all discuss things in all politeness and openness.
"moral standards" of behavior sounds akin to a stuff churchy building, and grim faces dressed in puritan black.
"moral standards" makes me envision people generously ostracizing perfectly fine people that have beautiful perspectives because of even deviating slightly from the "moral code".

I will be the first to admit that sometimes I get pissed off with some things that are said here. It's the more extreme things though (ie. doing exactly what the anti-chicers do to gain sympathy or evoke emotions). Normally I'll bite my tongue, or pass on posting something if someone else has already said what I wanted too.
I don't feel like I have to walk on eggshells here, and I believe that's very important for everyone. Anyone can join and post their feelings, stories, experiences or concerns for whatever. I don't feel we should have 'rules' persay, besides the obvious Gaia ToS and not posting people's names if we quote them.
I love this guild because I can get a lot of information on abortion, adoption, current events etc, and relax and chat at the same time. It's comforting. It's nice to know that if someone holds different beliefs from me, it can be disgussed without fear of me getting banned for having different views. That's what Pro-Choice is about. Just because someone doesn't like the idea of abortion, but won't restrict women doesn't mean I'm going to ban them, like people in a certain guild tend to do rolleyes

I am actually quite proud of being able to be so lax with this guild that I only need to intervene whenever a person PMs me, which is, what, once a month if that?

Threads locked in the PLG: Around 7 Threads locked in the PCG: 1, last time I checked.
Which one is more accepting of opinion? You decide, but I'm sticking with the PCG in terms of fairness (and when my Inner Grammer Nazi can rest, knowing that there will be hardly any mistakes here).

That also goes in hand with my policy of just moving topics to the less-visible FCF rather than locking them. You guys can talk about whatever you want, I just ask that sometimes you all 'get a room'. confused

Agreed.
I'm getting sick of all this censorship bullshit.
The real world is a sick sad place and it is a disservice to us if we seek to hide our head in the sands and not seriously discuss the real world for what it is.
I don't give a damned if a topic makes you squishy on the inside, or makes you feel sorta sad... You know what makes me sad, squishy and nauseous? Topics about bipolar disorder, alcoholism, people who are genuinely racist, people who are genuinely anti-women.
However I am not so foolish as to think the best solution to my anxiety about these topics is to avoid them entirely or to force others to keep them hidden from my delicate eyes. Racists exist. Alcoholics exist. People don't understand what it means to be bipolar. Sexist people exist. It is only a disservice to me and those around me to not seriously discuss the implications such people have on society. It is a disservice to me to refuse to expand my mind and my understanding of the world around me because it might make me feel somewhat uneasy. So I steady my stomach and I ******** deal with it.
This turn in the PCG towards the same willful ignorance so exhaulted in the PLG is disturbing. When did the paradigm of our guild make this turnabout?

*gives Grippy a new balloon*
There is not enough guild-love. We always criticize ourselves, but do we ever just take joy in the fact we can criticize each other without locking and banning and ignoring? No, we don't, at least not often enough! Well, you know what? WE KICK a**!

I got ticked when a mod locked my thread in the GD.)

I love this guild. It is one a wonderful place to be, and I'm glad and proud to be a member.
But I don't think that one needs to bash other guilds to love it. The Pro-Life Guild exists to allow a minority of people (Pro-Lifers on Gaia) a safe haven from the majority, a place to express their opinions, and vent occasionally.
Do I think that one of these guilds allows free-er expressing? Probably not. In fact, in the PLG it is probably easier to express some things, like factually wrong arguements against abortion, for instince. Since, for the most part, few people there will point out major problems (other than, now, me) with a Pro-Lifer's angry arguement, and I think that in here we tend to be a bit more likely to point out holes. Not that they don't, or that we catch all of them.
I do believe that this particular group of people has a lot of wonderful, intelligent, and often sexy individuals. And really, I'm glad that there is a place for people to be Pro-Choice on Gaia, without fear of Pro-Lifer attacks. Of course, I'm also glad that Pro-Lifers have their own place. I imagine that it is pretty lonely being a Pro-Lifer on Gaia, which tends to be a very liberal, and rather Pro-Choice-heavy, place (you know, like the rest of the world *grin* ).
Personally, I wouldn't leave this wonderful Guild for the world!
