(( this is the continuation of an RP in the shop on page 574. ))

"I ah.... I don't know." He looks around a little wearily. "Why don't we hang around here for a little while first? The park is very nice this time of year. All the flowers are coming out and it's fine-smelling and pleasant." He starts to walk again towards the local park.

"That's fine. I'm hardly going to drag you away if you don't want to go. Not that I could, anyway." She grinned and nodded, slipping the necklace back into her pocket, and followed after him.

Nar hops along from foot to booted foot, doing a kind of a funny dance as he moves down the street. He gazes off to the west and the very last of the setting sun, thinking on how pretty the sky looks. "Later. We'll go later. if you don't mind. And I don't know whether you could make me or not." He laughs and stuffs his hands in his pockets. "So what are you going to do with yourself, Iden? Do you go to school? What sort of things do you like?"
PostPosted: Sun May 08, 2005 8:49 pm

"I don't mind." Iden laughed, watching him hop along down the street. He had to be a foot taller than her, easy. "Ha, like I could drag you anywhere!"

"I don't know what I'm going to do with myself, I never really have. I always just figured I'd..well, figure it out eventually. But yeah, I go to school. I take history, mostly." She crossed her arms while she walked, thinking. "What do I like, hmm? Hell, I dunno. That's always such a weird, hard question for some reason. I, um..I like animals, but you probably had that figured by now. Books, singing, history..languages, though I don't really know any, mind you, except for a bit of Latin. Err..." She scratched her head. "I don't know, that's such an awful question to answer. I like being outside, mostly when it's dark."

"You could if you whacked me over the head with a frying pan first." He look back over his shoulder at her, grinning. "Those are all good things to be interested in. Are you going to be a historian?"

Iden chuckled and spread her arms out, palms up...well, one palm up. She had to hold onto Toby after all. "Yeah, because I just happen to carry a frying pan with me. Besides, then I really would have to drag you, and I can bet you wouldn't be too happy when you woke up." She let her arms fall back to her sides. "I really don't know. Though I'm gonna have to be something, huh? I don't want to teach, I know that. I suppose there's always something like archaeology. I'm not sure. I thought I'd just figure it out when I had to."

"A good plan, perhaps. Well, I was only curious. I'm not trying to pressure you into being some kind of.... professional something."

By now they've reached the edge of the park, which really isn't terribly far from the shop. Nar ducks into the trees, fading in and out of the deepening shadows as only a vampire can. He seems to prefer the unbeaten path and, rather than taking the sidewalk in, just slides right into the bushes.

"No, it wouldn't be all that pleasant," he replies. "And you certainly wouldn't have to hit me to get me to go. I would if you asked."

"Ugh, professional always sounds so..so stuffy. Lord, I hope I don't end up rotting in some museum basement or something." She wrinkled her nose. "Not that I haven't always wanted into museum basements, but I think I'd go crazy, always working in one."

Quirking an eyebrow, she trailed after, following him as best she could. "Well, that makes it a bit easier, then. But still, I don't want you to feel like you have to."

"But you wouldn't always have to work in one, would you? At least you'd be able to be alone for a while. Historians can do that--just sit around and study away and not have to bother with people. I know someone who hunts for magical artifacts and he's practically a hermit, sitting up in his tower and pouring over texts. I think I'd begin to get very lonely. Spending too much time with my own head doesn't ever seem to do me any good."

They come out on a little footpath between rows of cultivated flowers, and Nar veers himself along it so as not to crush any of them with his huge boots. "I don't mind. Maybe I can help keep you company. And it's not as though I can ever drop by, at least by the sound of it. I shall have to rely on you for visits."
PostPosted: Sun May 08, 2005 9:30 pm

"Mm, that is true. I would have to do something other than study, though. Not because I think it would get boring after awhile, though it does sometimes, but..well, I can hardly eat books. And writing them wouldn't get me all that far, either." She shrugged. "You certainly seem to know a lot of interesting people."

Iden carefully avoided the flowers, hooking a thumb in her pocket. "Yeah, that can be kind of a drawback to it. But eh, it works well enough. Whenever you care to, just lemme know."

Nar laughs. "Well I didn't mean you'd spend all your life in a basement! Of course you'd have to crawl out to eat and things. I just meant for a job as opposed to social work or something where you'd have to deal with people constantly. I only meant that it seemed like something.... you could do."

He gives a little shrug. "When you've lived as long as I have, you can't help but meet interesting people. And the immortal ones tend to stick with you. We feel... some kind of brotherhood, I suppose. I guess we have to if we don't want everyone we know to disappear throughout our lives. We make friends because of it, you see? Sometimes you just have to feel familiarity. It's good to see someone after hundreds of years, just because they are someone you know, if that makes any sense. Anyway, he's lived for a good few years due to some kind of... oh, I don't know, some kind of alchemical process. I'm not certain. I don't dabble in sorcery at all. Anyway, I happened to meet him a long, long time ago. We help each other out sometimes. He always needs some poor fool to go out into the snowy wastes of his home and hunt down some artifact that may or may not exist ." He rolls his eyes, although he's still smiling.

"No, no..I just meant studying isn't exactly conducive to making money, y'know? I have to do something." She laughed, then listened, nodding. "I think that makes sense. Oh, so you get to go and be the poor fool, sometimes?"

"Oh.... I suppose... you'd just have to get some kind of grant or something." He makes an embarrased face and hops up onto one of the park benches that happen to get in his way. "I'm afraid I do. He always suckers me into doing things for him when I visit, which is why I don't often. I sent him a um... 'assistant' a while back. Hopefully she's doing whatever bidding he needs done."
PostPosted: Sun May 08, 2005 9:49 pm

"Ohh, then I'd probably have to write something." She wrinkled her nose again. "Aah well, I don't have to worry about it for awhile yet." She looked up at him curiously. "An assistant?"

"No, I suppose not... not if you're still in school. Well," he hops back down and continues on his way. "There was some girl who's job was to assasinate someone I look after. She was in trouble for being caught, so, to spare her from further torment, I sent her to him. So far, she's been kept safe."
