Since his final transformation, Oz had started to exhibit some peculiar behaviour. Some to his knowledge, and some that wasn't. As such, he had fitful visions of becoming so animal that he could attack his friends, and then fled his Duplex in panic. He'd hidden himself well in the jungle for days now, actually using his natural foraging instincts to eat only what he knew to be safe. But an 8ft fluffy blob was still likely to be noticed...

Wearing nothing but the fur on his back and a troubled expression on his face, the sentient gorilla emerged from the sticky jungle in order to indulge on some of the wild fruits that grew more in the open. For all intents and purposes, Oz was an oversized gorilla stuffing his face with berries on the side of an Island path.

Well that was pleasant... Alexa thought to herself. She'd just endured the long day of flights from Los Angeles to her hometown, then from there to Australia, then from there to the island. She was beat, to say the least. At least that Sabin guy had been nice enough to show her around and give her precautionary vaccinations. She sure as hell didn't want to get whatever island disease might be floating around. She'd been shown her room, set up just to her likings, but she hadn't seen Maryke yet. Thus, she went out in search, cutting through the thick foliage of the jungle, enjoying the walk. It was one of few things Alexa actually enjoyed, so she eagerly soaked it in.

Well... she had been enjoying herself... until she came to a clearing and saw what looked like the biggest monkey she'd ever seen. Stopping dead in her tracks, she stared wide-eyed with fright. Sabin hadn't warned her about man-eating primates! She stood there for a moment, going over her options of escape. First off, he was 3 feet taller than she was... so she doubted she could outrun him if he was mad enough to chase her. Secondly, her phobia locked her knees. s**t. The hugeass primate was going to eat her, and there was nothing she could do. Nothing except keep quiet and hope he didn't see her. Move, knees! Damn you, MOVE!.

The dexterity with which Oz could now manoeuvre his lips and mouth was certainly an assest when plucking berries straight from the branch, and then stripping it of bark to get to the more tender parts inside. As most of his brain was now fine-tuned to gorilla, eating plants didn't seem un-natural. A few days ago, he had baulked at the thought of even licking a leaf that hadn't first been washed and processed into some sort of sandwich filling.

With an un-nerving calmness, Oz looked over his bulky shoulder at the human who had just stepped out from the jungle like some kind of nymph, stunned in the sunlight. He surveyed her shapely form with large, amber eyes, his maw still chewing on berries and bark. The occasional large canine flashed as he moved his lips to pluck another berry. With a mild gutteral purring noise, he shuffled slightly to better see her. Face to face.

Alexa was struggling with herself, trying despirately to turn and disappear before that BEAST could take notice... but she couldn't. He looked over his shoulder, and she froze all over again. s**t. He's going to eat me... I'm going to die... ********, I'm going to die. Her thoughts ran rampant as he turned his massive, grotesque body towards her, and she shuddered. What was that noise he was making?

It must be like... some sort of five second head start warning or something.... yeah... that's it. She panicked, watching the large brown eyes of the beast as he seemed to loom much too close, though he was still far away. Oh wait... was she supposed to look away from a gorillas eyes? Or was that a bear? She didn't remember... she didn't have time to remember. Opening her mouth and squeezing her eyes shut, she tried despirately to scream... hell, even yell something mean enough to distract him, but all that came out was a squeak.

Oz stopped chewing rather suddenly, his eyes focusing more on Alexa now. Was she...frightened? He leaned forward in his analysis of his human visitor, emitting a gruff cough-bark, which would have meant something along the lines of 'Whats the matter?'. If Alexa could understand gorilla.

He emptied his hands of branches and berries, shifting them to the ground now and getting ready to support his weight. A second glance might reveal a piercing in his left n****e and ear, but that tiny glint of gold against such a great black thing might be hard to notice.

Oh s**t. Now he was focussing on her. She peeked one blue-green eye open, watching as his chewing ceased. She shuddered as he leaned in, now once again staring wide eyed at him. At the sudden, loud noise, Alexa screamed, falling backwards and scrambling to get back up again. She did catch the small glint of gold, but thought nothing of it. Maybe he was a research or local gorilla? Maybe it was a tracking tag so if he got close to the duplexes they'd know so they could scare him away...

...because he was vicious and going to eat her.

"Pleasedon'teatme!" She squeaked, a long stream of syllables that barely broke between each word. She was surprised at herself for admitting her fear, and also surprised that by this time she'd covered her head with her arms and balled up on the jungle path, hoping he'd leave her be and find something bigger and tastier to munch on. Afterall... Alexa wasn't much for meat... right? Right? She hoped so.

By the time Alexa had curled into a ball, Oz had realised what was wrong with the poor girl. His animal senses weren't too keen yet, but screaming 'Please don't eat me!' couldn't be more obvious. Now, the question at hand was...should he have a little fun and terrorise the girl, or take in his stride and prove her wrong?

Oz stood in the classic 'strut' pose of the silverback male, supporting his weight on his knuckles, his back gently curved and the thick muscles emphasised around his shoulders and neck. He loomed over poor Alexa. With the utmost care and gentle-touch, he lightly grasped Alexa's arm and wanted to pry it away slightly, so that he might get a better look at this dainty human.

"Y'know, I don't actually eat meat," he said quite calmly, in a very human and very British manner, with just a slight hint of gruff that came with new vocal chords.

She trembled as he loomed over her, inwardly cursing herself for showing so much fear towards him. However, she was scared of even the smallest monkey, and this guy was a GIANT. She supposed she couldn't be too hard on herself, and yet she was still kicking herself. Well, didn't matter now. He was going to eat her, it was game over. She wondered if Maryke knew she made it to the island, but supposed she wouldn't care.

Just when she thought it was all over, she felt the light grasp, gently lifting one arm away from her face. She loosened her defensive grip, peeking up sheepishly at him. Okay... maybe he just wanted to play with her? She offered him a weak smile, starting to come out of her protective huddle when he spoke. She went limp, eyes wide and jaw dropped. It.... talked. "You... you.... you TALK!" She stammered, half in alarm, half in surprise. She looked at him for a moment in utter amazement before her eyebrows furrowed into a frown. "What's going on here?" Her voice was cold, the 'normal' Alexa starting to take over.

"Well of course I talk. What did you expect? I wasn't gonna keep grunting at you when you didn't have a clue what I was saying," he explained rationally, as if a talking gorilla was a normal occurence in life.

With arms that could have easily torn her in two, he gently lifted her to a standing position, hoping to wayleigh some of her fears of his brutish form. He still loomed over her, but not the same degree. Now standing in his personal space, it gave Oz an opportunity to look at Alexa properly. Nice, slender figure...but with a good degree of woman-ness, if you get my drift. Odd hair, but he'd seen weirder. Pretty face, that changed quickly as Alexa turned cold.

"Hmmm? Have you not met the other Islanders yet?" he asked, his expressive face spelling all kinds of apprehension.

"No... you're a gorilla. Gorillas don't talk... they make monkey sounds and bite innocent children." She glanced around, as if searching for some indication of reality or dream. "Maybe this is a hallucination? Is this a side effect of the injection?" She paused, thinking for a moment before another terrified, shocked look overcame her. "Or... did I catch that nasty Dingo fever?"

Well, if she had... this was certainly an interesting hallucination. But she was pretty sure she hadn't fallen asleep, so it couldn't be a dream, and if it was a hallucination, she could think of a million better ones that made a lot less sense than a talking ape. Just as her thoughts began to migrate towards the desire to run back to the duplexes and seek Maryke at a later date, she registered his question.

"Other islanders?" She cocked her head slightly to one side, arching a perfectly crafted brow. "I know Maryke... but she's a human, so I don't really know what you're getting at. A woman and a talking ape are different..." At least... they were last time she checked. However, it seemed as if the ape suggested she reject reality and substitute his own.

She wasn't exactly thrilled.

Alexa's panicked stream of questions flustered poor Oz's simple mind, making his face twist into a confused and slightly aggitated grimace. He was far more upset about having to explain to yet another new person what the Island really was. Rather than expend energy on both staying upright and trying to think, he shuffled his great bulk back into a sitting position, his slightly podgy tummy making him look like a sitting Buddha. He reached a great muscular arm to his neck and scratched idly at his fur, taking a deep breath and thinking about his approach.

"Okay...you must be new here. If you think a talking gorilla is strange, you had better prepare yourself for a lot worse," he began. "The thing is...I'm not a gorilla...well, I am now but I didn't used to be. I was human."

She took a long moment of silence, staring at him blankly. He could probably see the gears turning in her head, trying to process what he just said. After she came across what was similar to a fatal error, reality came back to her. Giving her head a slight shake, she frowned slightly, a bit of a sneer coming to her features. It wasn't nice to play tricks on people... hell, maybe he was in a suit. "Huh?" was her first verbal response to what the ape-man said.

It was a suit... it must've been a suit. "Oh!" she said at last, as if the light had clicked on. "So this is like... a themed resort? That makes sense, considering the authentic look and feel to the rooms..." She leaned into him a bit, examining the thing. "So how's it work? Must be hot under the whole thing..."

Oz's thick eyebrow ridge curved upwards, his lower jaw and lip hanging slightly loose, a blank expression washing over his black features. Was she serious? It had never occurred to Oz that a new Islander would question his authenticity. So how would he prove he was real?

The big floof-ball blushed ever so slightly as Alexa leaned in, not quite anticipating such a close examination. He thought that just by seeing that podgy belly and that barrel chest heaving with his every breath would be enough. But Alexa wasn't looking for the subtle, she wanted the obvious.

"Okay, so what do I have to do to prove I'm real?" he asked her bluntly, wondering if fulfilling a request, not matter how demeaning, would even satisfy her.
