For those gamers out there who might want a mecha-based combat game for the PC, might I point you to the upcoming
Exteel game from PlayNC.
It's supposedly coming out in Q4 2006 (AKA, soon), and is a free game, though it will have a 'cash shop' where you can pay for superior parts, weapons and such. It looks to be a bit of a mix of realistic mecha and super mecha, and seems very fast-paced and fun from the gameplay videos. Here are a few links to get you thinking of it.
Exteel Cinematic TrailerExteel Gameplay FeaturetteThis'll be a multiplayer game featuring up to 16-player online battles, ranging from classic FFA and Team Deathmatch, to capture-type games, like Capture The Flag.
From what I've heard, you have the ability to swap out head, body, and limbs, not to mention weapons which can range from large two-handed guns to smaller, one-handed ones which you can dual-wield and such. IE, a shotgun and a machine-pistol, or dual beamsabers. And from the looks of it, you can alter color, to a smaller extent.
Of course, it isn't going to be the most pretty or flashy game out there, but it is free, and it looks damn fine for being so, so we can't complain. People who have played say it is remniscient of Virtual-On, and will be fairly easy to warm up to either way.
Was just tossing it out there, I hadn't seen anything here on the boards about it yet, so I figured that it wouldn't hurt to announce it.
