For those gamers out there who might want a mecha-based combat game for the PC, might I point you to the upcoming Exteel game from PlayNC.

It's supposedly coming out in Q4 2006 (AKA, soon), and is a free game, though it will have a 'cash shop' where you can pay for superior parts, weapons and such. It looks to be a bit of a mix of realistic mecha and super mecha, and seems very fast-paced and fun from the gameplay videos. Here are a few links to get you thinking of it.

Exteel Cinematic Trailer

Exteel Gameplay Featurette

This'll be a multiplayer game featuring up to 16-player online battles, ranging from classic FFA and Team Deathmatch, to capture-type games, like Capture The Flag.

From what I've heard, you have the ability to swap out head, body, and limbs, not to mention weapons which can range from large two-handed guns to smaller, one-handed ones which you can dual-wield and such. IE, a shotgun and a machine-pistol, or dual beamsabers. And from the looks of it, you can alter color, to a smaller extent.

Of course, it isn't going to be the most pretty or flashy game out there, but it is free, and it looks damn fine for being so, so we can't complain. People who have played say it is remniscient of Virtual-On, and will be fairly easy to warm up to either way.

Was just tossing it out there, I hadn't seen anything here on the boards about it yet, so I figured that it wouldn't hurt to announce it. biggrin

I can't wait to get this game on my PC.

Hopefully others from the guild will like it too and we can meet up in game? xd

It says costs are still being determined, but in it's other incarnations it runs on a cash shop, and with the recent success of cash shops in the US, there's a good chance they won't deviate for this, there's no reason too.

That's good to know, now I just need to know WHERE to download the game, if a client is even out yet I didn't really notice anything like that while I browsed the site.

Game Client will probably pop up on the home site, it's just not out yet (assuming they're still in the translation process, or they are setting up the servers..or some other third thing)

But I'm sure one of us will end up annoucning when it gets released, I'll try too since I'm gonna be watching this game like a hawk. xd

Lol, Manga's been managing this thread for my in my absence.

Yeah. At E3 this year, PlayNC announced Exteel to be a free-to-play game, but you pay for more...'premium' parts, services, and such. Which will probably mean paying customers will have access to the more OMGWTFPWNAGE weapons.

Curses. Oh well, it probably won't be too much in the end, to shell out.

So, any idea when this is coming out...?

Do you have to buy it first, or do you just download it?

If you have to buy it, do you know if it's PC only (i.e. can it be played on a Mac)?

Game's just went into open beta.

Go on ahead, do whatever. I've tried it. It's...decent. A bit better'n decent if you only want to factor in mecha games, which it seems like there's a sad lack of lately. Think of it as Armored Core meets Gunbound meets Gunz: The Duel. My biggest complaint is that there seems to be lack of variety, other'n color, between mechs, and that once you apply points you cannot redo anything if you decide to go another way. Oh, and that movement when you try to boost feels clunky. Especially if you try to jump. Either way, it's kind've fun.

Armored Core still beats this into the ground, however.
