God knows I have. They don't want to call us an extra.. but we know we're just the extra people they thought were good but doesn't really need a part. Mabye a backup dancer or the infamous "townsperson"? Post your grievances!

I was a winky in the Wiz Of Oz. I had one line. And then I just had to look serious. Exciting no? "there are no small parts" my butt! But then again, small parts are the best way to break into acting if you're a newcomer.

i was and extra orphan in annie for my first role. i just sang and danced. but he annoying thing is i showed up for more rehersals than the girl who played Annie! but you have to start with these kinds of roles. everyone does. It realy annoys me when newbs tryout for a play and expect to get a lead. And then, when Heaven forbid they are cast as an extra or under study, they quit. Some seem to do this play after play and wonder why the director never even casts them.
Extras and under-studies are like the test for devoted actors. the director will notice you and will be more likely to give you a larger role now that they know you are willing to stick to the project.

My favorite crap roles have been:
A village son in Fiddler on the Roof (I'm a girl.) A Cuban native in Mariner (I'm white.) A Chinese native in the same (My Chinese accent sounds English. I speak Chinese with a French accent. I'm white.)
And I once played Simon Stimson in Our Town. I know he has lines and everything. But I'm a girl. And not drunk. And I can't sing (he's a choir director)

I've been the #2, and #3 and a lot of things for this one play and it was quite annoying. For the dancing parts though, The other girls didn't show up for practice, So they were miciking me the entire time. Wee! My time to shine! surprised rofl

In guys and dolls I was a no-name missionary. That was for a camp too, so everyone had to have a part. there's like maybe four parts in that, and the rest are no named extras. I was one of the oldest there, too. Apparently I stunk that much.

What bothers me most is group parts! I hate group parts.

I was in a performing arts summer camp where they put on a show at the end and I was an orphan who had one line and I had to say it with another person. The next year I was in a more advanced dance group but I didn't get a single line. sad
