I think you can make your own wand in fact I think it is a good thing to make your own tools. It makes them more personal somehow. I wish I could help you more but I dont really have experience in crafting a wand.

I know somethings about wands... I know if your making it with wood you should probably take some from your spirit tree. (if you have one... if not find one first.) and when it comes to gems use a stone with properys that you want to give to potions and such... I might make one with an amethyst! blaugh

I definitely love Amethysts. It's my stone, the first stone I ever got. Mom brought it to me when I was little and said it's the only stone that could tame me. It didn't. razz

I, to this day like Dionysus. xd

Make the wand out of what ever you want as long as its natural.

Well - you could potentially have it out of plastic or steel, but yes, it wouldn't be nearly as effective and would tone down the amount of energy in a circle slightly.

I found my wand by hunting for it in the woods. I tried several - but when I picked this one up it just felt 'right' - and was all tingly and warm. whee I warn you though: it took a while, but it's well worth it. Also, when I went to cut it with my bolline, (to shorten it) it didn't need doing - just snapped off in a way where you could put a crystal on the top.

However, I have yet to do this. >_>; I need to find a decent crystal first. As for putting crystals in - look at ones which properties you generally use. For instance, if you use visualisation then Lapis Lazuli would be a good choice - as would any third eye opener. If you're unsure about others, then take a looky at our crystal guide.

I know that JVCA has put crystals into her wand - maybe you should consider PMing her, or wait until she gets back. ^^

Good luck, and happy wand making!

A popular choice for wand crystals is a simple quartz point- Placed at the tip of the wand, it assists greatly in directing energy, and quartz is well known for being easy to substitute for any other crystal- making it suitable for all spells. As for any others- it's completely up to you. My wand is wooden, with a quartz point at the tip, a piece of peach moonstone at the base, and two garnets in the stem. I chose peach moonstone for the femininity and the powers of the goddess, and the garnet I chose because it seemed right. smile I'll try get a photo...

Try to choose a wand, if your going with a wooden one, from a stick that the tree has dropped. Taking one from a living tree might not always have good effects if the tree doesn't want you to have it. Look for one lying on the ground and try carving it. Hardwood is the best to use, like oak. Pine and stuff isn't very good because it's too soft most of the time and the branches are thin and hard to carve. Good luck, and if you feel you are communing with a certain brach from a tree make sure you ask permission before removing it. Dryads can be fierce.

I've heard that there are certain dimensions for a wand, but I've never truly believed in anything that structured.

From what I understand, it's supposed to be no bigger around than your thumb, and about the length of the tip of you middle finger to your elbow.

But I just always go with what feels right. 3nodding

The tree will snap back if you try to take a limb off without asking for/getting permission. I've seen it happen. rofl

I'm back from Band camp, and I have the perfect stick for a wand, it litterally fell in front of me when I walked near the tree. it is perfectly straight to.
