She slowly descended as she spotted a clear, soft looking spring just below. Feeling dirty after having roughed the flight from the tall mountains where she currently resided, she landed gently and gracefully into the spring, sighing with relief as she slowly began to wash off the tiny particles of dust that must have collected against her coat as she had flown.
It was her policy to clean off after every flight, so she was happy to finally find a spring. Hopefully there were no others around... she'd be embarrassed to show them a dull, ugly coat. How else would she be able to be perfect for whomever her future mate to be? Her mate to be deserved perfection, therefore, she must perfect her beauty before her personality.
It wasn't like she could help it with the way she was. But, ah well. That was a contemplation for another time... cleaning herself was of the upmost importance for her focus and attention right now.

Inali had ventured near the foothills of the mountains today, curious as to what sorts of soquili lived here. Trotting across the ground, she stopped to tear at a clump of mountain weeds, promptly disposing of it. That was horrid! Shaking her head to try and clear it of the taste, Inali continued onwards.
A glint of something shiny white and gold soon caught the red mare's eyes. What was that? Rounding a corner, she turned to see a simply splended wind soquili grooming herself. She was truly an impressive looking mare. Going up to the spring hesitantly, Inali dipped her head to drink, purposefully waiting to introduce herself to the mare.
"Your shoulder. You still have a piece of dirt on it." Inali offered the helpful hint, sensing that this mare was quite a bit like her. The excessive grooming was what tipped her off- a need to look perfect, to look beautiful. "I am Inali. I come from the plains. I hope I do not seem as... barbaric as some are there." Dipping her head, the mare was grateful that she had gotten her guardian to brush her mane and tail today until it shown like spun silver.

She nearly jumped in surprise as she heard a soft, inquiring voice behind her. She turned, spotting a beautiful ruby-colored mare, with mane and tail shining like silkworm silver. She rose her brow, as if to say, 'oh, really now?', but nodded her thanks. With a quick splash of the clear, cool water, she washed off the dirt. Feeling she was not ready to address the mare (however rude her sudden intrusion was) she slowly approached.
This mare seemed to be of the common type, with no elegant wings nor a horn to dorn her lovely body (of course, that had been what surely told Shimshek that this mare was of the common ones) and she now stood regally. "I thank you for your observation. I would not have gotten that dirt off me otherwise. What brings a mare like you, who lives in the plains, to the mountain grounds?" She would wait to introduce herself. Perhaps she would be first to speak her name, but her curiosity drove her to wonder why a plains mare would find her way to her homeland, the mountains.

Inali waited a good distance away before going closer to the mare. She sensed a kindred spirit, yes, but knew that if this mare was indeed like her, she would not like any flaws pointed out upon her goldish white coat. Careful steps now, careful steps... After all, she had to show this mare she was every bit her equal, did she not?
When the mare finally spoke, Inali came to full attention, taking a small step forward. "I wanted to see the mountains where the winged ones lived. It's as simple as that." Inali noticed that the mare had not yet introduced herself. A game then. Perhaps she should just end it. "I am Inali. The plains are my home for now, but I will perhaps relocate one day. And you are?..." Her voice trailed off gently. It had just the right amount of force, coersian, and simple curiousity that made it unoffensive.

The mare caught her off guard slightly. This mare was a lot like her... and her name was even perfect. Excellent. "Greetings, Inali..." she spoke with the same tone as when the mare had left off. "I am called Shimshek." She eyed the mare carefully, judging her. Perhaps an equal, this mare. And ah... Inali merely wished to discover the wonderful place that was her home. Good enough.
"I see. Fairly simple, yes." She frowned a bit, ears twitching. "I suggest you relocate, good mare. If someone with your caliber in beauty is stuck there too long, one finds you to be just like the others. Belittled twits filled with idiocy. There are those rare types who may have the wits, and perhaps a snatch of beauty." She flicked her tail, delicately braided with an intricate, complicated style.

Inali watched Shimshek carefully. She had a beautiful name, to fit her form. Somehow, Inali felt on equal footing with this mare. Perhaps she'd finally met a mare to keep her attention? Oh yes, perhaps this Shimshek would.
The compliment did not take Inaly wholly by surprise, but she still found herself grateful. Someone finally understood her quandry! "I will relocate some day soon. For now, I enjoy my quiet spot- it has not yet been invaded upon. I've met those with little wits, but they grow confused by me, and leave me alone." Inali grinned broadly, thinking of her own past experiences. Oh yes, they left her alone!
"I have not the wings to go to the mountains, so for not he plains will do. One day I think I shall make the beach my home, or a nice lake side. Some place which truly shows off my coat. It is odd that you go to the mountains. The colors do not do your coat justice."

Definitely a kindred spirit, this one. "A lakeside, or the ocean. Extraordinary choices, perfect for someone like you, who likes to show off her beauty... as mares should, but most are too dull-witted to realize this concept."
Snorting, she smirked. Oh, there were reasons why she lived in the mountains. "Perhaps so, but there's this excellent place, high up in the mountains where those two-legged creatures cannot go, for they die upon breathing that air.
"You see, the mountains have extreme weather--they are very cold. Not all creatures can live up there, save for those who have thick, beautiful coats--like mine--and can stand against that freezing temperature. Now. This is where my reason stands.
"For you see, up there, water freezes into something like a rock. It then transform into a transparent substance, which can then reflect your image. A bit distorted, but it helps you to see all sides of yourself. It's a wonderful thing." She smiled, thinking about her cave, where she stayed to watch and judge how her coat turned out.

"Most mares believe in a concept called modesty- far outdated, not at all useful for the present times. Modesty will get a mare nowhere." Inali snorted, reveling in the fact she had finally found a kindred spirit.
So high up there was no hair? Inali was shocked, but at the same time, rather enjoyed the concept. A life without two leggers? That was difficult to think about. After all, they had their uses, if simply for cosmetic purposes. Without her two legger, Inali did not know how she could get her mane and tail to look so splended all the time.
Listening to Shimshek continue to speak, Inali nodded now and then at her words. Yes, she understood now. This made perfect sense! Frozen rock... frozen so you could see yourself?" "I have seen something like that, once. I should like tos ee it again... Does it distort less than water? I have spent far too many hours looking for a calm pool to look at myself in, only to have it suddenly disrupted by an errant insect."

"Modesty!? Outrageous." Her voice was filled with astonishment and disdain; obviously, she disapproved of this term. "I agree completely. Such a thing should be put to the past. These days, to get what one wants, a mare cannot afford such an abominable belief."
Snorting softly, she smiled a little at Inali. "It distorts much, much less then water. You see a far clearer, better image of yourself." She felt sorry for Inali; the girl had so much potential, and living in this area must have been horrible. "I find two-leggers useful in few ways, but I shall agree with you, if a small bit, on that."

Inali agreed with Shimshek's disdain. Modesty indeed! "Modesty is nothing but a lack of self-confidence, or knowledge that you aren't beautiful." She flicked her silver mane back, liking this winged soquili immensely. Someone who shared her views, at last!
Thinking upon ice, Inali nodded her head. "Well that settles it. Sometime I will have to make the journey to the mountains, but not today. I need to be prepared- must take care not to damage my hooves or my tail." The very idea of snarling her beautiful tail horrified Inali. Why... it could get broken!

A mare with a common acknowledgement! Finally, someone who understood why she cared so much for her beauty. "I quite agree! A mare with such a trait lacks beauty; why, I could only stare at them in disgust for their ugliness of not caring for their coats!"
She smiled at Inali. "I can show you a path that won't ruin your gorgeous coat, dear. I know I have wings, but that doesn't mean I don't mind walking through the white beauty of the snow, either."

"I should love that Shimshek, though at another time, unfortunately. My way has been long, and I should make it home while the air is still cool- I should like to walk, and if I run to avoid heat or darkness, my coat will get sweaty." Inali shivered- there was nothing she liked worse than sweat marring her coat- while, most of the time anyway.
"Your companionship has been nothing short of blissful, and I hope to see you again, and call you friend." Bowing her head, Inali gave proper respect before wheeling and trotting away.

She watched as the mare left, a small smile of approval on her face. "Well, there's a good mare if there is any at all," she muttered to herself. "Not that I'm excluding myself. There's just too many mares who believe that modesty is the best to catch a stallion's attention."
She turned to make her way back up the mountains, feeling like she had spent far too much time at the foot of them, as if she had been tainted and needed to make herself pure again.
