Avellano yawned widely and padded out of her small den, tail swishing slowly behind her. She had only really been staying there for the day, and guessed that the den had belonged to a maned wolf or a jackal before, going by how small it was. She stretched lazily and flopped onto her side, wanting to lay in the sun for a while before it was gone completely. Her eyes found the horizon, glowing as the sun fell behind it, and then looked up at the clouds floating through the orange and red sky, shifting her weight a little then getting up. "I'd better just go now, I don't want to waste any time." She said quietly, pulling herself up and padding off towards the sunset.

A lazy yawn worked it's way from Athrun's smooth white muzzle as the god floated upside down in the air, his belly facing the clouds and his front legs tucked to his chest while his hind legs simply drug behind him. The heat made him sleepy sometimes and the simple act of flying could instantly turn into a problem if he fell asleep at the proverbial wheel.

Flipping mid-air, he gazed down below and chose a rather large looking rock to land on instead of crashing unconsciously into the ground and waking up with bruises. Folding his abnormally large wings at his sides, he streaked down out of the air and then spread them again just before he hit ground, kicking out his back legs so they touched the boulder first. After his brief adventure he was grinning a little due to adreneline, but for the most part still felt sleepy, so he sat down and stared off into the horizon a bit before flopping down on his side propped on his elbows tiredly. Sometimes he really did regret being made the way he was.

The lioness continued to pad slowly towards the setting sun, feeling it cool off in large chunks of degrees, but still feeling comfortably warm, since she had just woken up. She shook her body to try and fluff up her fur a little, for the extra warmth in case she needed it. As she came to the top of a small hill, she saw below a rather large lion with...wings? Slightly taken aback, she reclined a little, afraid that he might notice her there, but then she spotted the blindfold he had covering his eyes. She wondered why he would have his eyes covered, and how it would be possible for him to fly without proper vision, but that wasn't important to her right then.

Avellano began padding slowly down the hill towards the large winged feline, yawning again, still tired, and flicking her tail every now and then. About half way down, the mostly white lioness stopped and pushed herself low to the ground, common technique often used for hunting, to observe him. She couldn't help but notice that he looked very lonely, but he also looked rather tired. Didn't this other cat sleep during the day? She wondered, stalking a bit closer in hopes of catching his scent on whatever little breeze there may be.

The sound of feet stepping on grass made one of Athrun's large ears p***k up slightly, sending a waft of fluffy mane in front of the Eye on his blindfold and blinding him temporarily. Grumbling angrily the god flapped his wings and sighed a little as the wind from his wings got the fur out of his way. Twisting his head to see the lion that had walked up on him, the god caught wiff of a scent that made his blood turn instantly to frost.

Staring at the upcoming lioness for a long moment he used his strong legs to heave himself to his feet, listening to the music the bangles on his wings and back legs made as he did so. So she was stalking him was she? Or rather she was probably just attempting to see if he was worth her time. A frown spread over his muzzle. She looked so much like her, but who exactly was she?

"And what would you like little one?" He called out in his resonating voice.

Avellano was curious about this big winged lion, very curious indeed. She jumped slightly as he turned to her and ruffled his wings, then lifted himself up. She tried to puch herself against the ground more, but failing to do so, she decided to try something else, and pushed herself up, fluffing up her fur again and growling softly, still a little unnerved. She liked the sound the bangles that he wore made as he moved, and she closed her eyes to listen to them for a moment, before opening them again, thinking maybe it wasn't such a good idea to let her guard down like that, especially around such a stranger as he.

"I was just....going somewhere. Didn't want to bother you, honest." She said quietly, still slightly frightened by him. "If you'd like I can just--" She paused. Now that Avellano was able to see all of this strange male, she began to feel like she knew him from somewhere. "I'm sorry if this offends you for any reason at all, but you seem incredibly familiar, I know I've never seen you before sir, I know I'd remember a giant lion with wings if I had, but....I feel like I know you." She said, trying not to sound offensive in any way, trying to remain careful with what she said. He seemed important, and she didn't wish to upset or annoy him.

A sad look passed over Athrun's face. So it was true, it really was her. Or at the very least a daughter of hers possibly. That meant that if she was who she thought she was then somehow the two of them were related.

Well, not somehow, he knew how... he'd just thought them all for dead the longest time. Watching an entire pride be slaughtered would do that to one.

"So it is you then. I thought I saw her in you." He said in a voice that exuded so much sadness it even hurt himself. Flicking the dark red puff of fur on the end of his tail, Athrun stood and bowed on the rock before the lioness that bore the same blood in herself that he bore in his own veins. Relatives, it was funny how small the savannah was sometimes.

Avellano couldn't help but be confused. She'd though he was familiar, but...this wasn't the reaction she'd expected. Who was he talking about? "I'm sorry, I don't understand, saw who sir?" She asked, politely as she could. She could feel her tail twitching of it's own free will, and she shifted her weight, slightly uncomfortable. Was this....a relative of hers or something? She cocked her head at him, looking at everything about him. His markings, yes, her mother's had look like those, and his bracelets...her mother had worn bracelets...The blindfold. Now it was clear to her, she was definately related to this odd lion. Her mother had worn a piece of cloth similar to that one around her neck...."Excuse me sir, but are you...related to me?" Avellano inquired. Clearly confused, the white and brown lioness reclined to her haunches and continued to look at him.

neokitsune
"You aren't old enough to know, but yes, yes you are. Though I don't exactly know how far down that bloodline you are, the two of us are related." Athrun explained delicatly, stitting once again and using his large wings to quickly hide the heiroglyphics that warranted talk of his curse and how old he was and why-oh-why he looked like he was younger than she was. "What was your mother's name? That might help clear up exactly how we're related." He gave her a rather fatherly smile and nodded his head contently to his young descendent.

Unsure of how to explain why it was that he'd never been around, the god chose to completely avoid that part of the conversation as long as he possibly could, not really wanting to explain his curse yet one more time as it scathed him to tell it even once.

The lioness layed herself down, still looking up at the other cat. She flicked her tail again and shifted her weight, laying one paw over the other and pushing both of her hind legs out to one side. She was confused still, so...he knows, and I don't? She thought to herself, swivelling her ears and then closing her eyes again, looking away from him for a moment and nibbling at an itchy spot on her flank. "My mother's name was Annipe." She said quietly, wondering what his reaction would be to hearing her name.

Her own reaction was one of sadness. Her mother had been murdered by another when she was only a young lioness, too young to hunt and fend for herself. She could feel her throat swelling, about to cry. She hadn't thought about her mother in a long time, and thinking about her now, while she had another relative right in front of her was hard for Avellano. She looked away again, feeling a single tear roll down her muzzle, and tried her hardest to choke it all back, to hold it inside, like she'd done for years.

Instantly Athrun's wings fell to the sides of his body at the sound of his daughter's name. His only daughter, the only one that survived the slaughter that he'd witnessed with his own blue eyes in anguish. The reason he wore the blindfold, to keep his powers in check and to avoid all the pain in his life.

"Annipe" Athrun rasped out in his resonating voice, full of raspyness and pain just for a name.

Slowly he stood up, his bangles jangling together heavily on his hind legs and his wings, Athrun floated down to the ground before him. With all the loneliness and pain he'd had in his life, why now was this happening to him? Why now was she showing up before him as if some kind of ghost had been unleashed from a past so heavily locked down.

"So then that would make you my granddaughter." He said slowly to her.

With all the pain swirling around in his cavernous chest full of ice and revile, the only speck of hope that he dug his claws into was that this lioness was his daughter's daughter. That his daughter had lived to have this beautiful young girl before him. If it hadn't been for that, then there really would have been nothing to remind Athrun that he did in fact have a heart and that just as easily as he iced it over these past few years, it shattered in pain because he understood that the look on Avenello's face meant Annipe didn't reside with her any longer, whether it meant that she had died or that she was gone.

She was gone.

"I....I guess it would." Avellano said, trying to hold back her tears. This was hard for her, having never met anyone that she could know as family before. She thought they were all dead...She flicked her tail sadly, laying her ears back as she turned to look at Athrun. "Why do you wear that blindfold grandfather? There is so much beautiful earth to see." She said, padding forwards and nuzzling him, gently cuddling against his soft chest fur. He was much larger than she was, but it didn't matter, she wanted to feel comfort from him, so she did the only thing she could, get close, and hope it worked. Curling up against him, Avellano rested her chin on her paws, which were laying over one of his. "I...don't even remember her." She said quietly, sighing a little as she sniffled, a few tears falling from her eyes. She rubbed her cheek against his soft fur, feeling his sadness. "Did you know her well?" Avellano asked, turning her head to look up at him.

A lump worked it's way into Athrun's throat, keeping him from talking for a moment. It had been so long since he'd seen anyone of his bloodline, he missed his cubs so much at that moment in time that he felt tears seep out from his sky blue eyes tiredly.

"I wear it because it helps to control my powers, and because after what happened to my family.... I can't believe the world is as beautiful as you see it. I wouldn't ever look at it the same. I'd see the blood of your grandmother and your uncles that should never have gone that path flowing across the ground in front of my paws. And I couldn't deal with it no matter how many thousands of years pass."

A sigh floated from his muzzle and he leaned down, running his large tongue over the back of his grand-daughter's neck softly, trying to console her the best way he knew how, but he didn't suppose it would work coming from a god of his kind.

"Yes. She was the only daughter I ever had, and I miss her and your uncles very much." He said, his ears falling to the sides of his head, his wings falling down and laying heavily on the ground. "Keep this in mind little one and know it well. Children should never die before their parents."

The white lioness snuggled into her grandfather more, feeling slightly better, but wondering what he was talking about, powers. Was her grandfather some sort of God or something? She laughed feebly, dropping her head on his leg defeatedly. A small sigh escaped her as his last sentace finished. "I'm really sorry that you had to go through that grandfather." She said quietly, sniffling a little more. "I...I don't know what to say, I know that's not how things work sir, but sometimes things happen, and you can't change them." She started, pausing to sniffle, then continuing, "But I don't know what happened...so I guess I can't really say anything." Avellano said, licking her grandfathers leg caringly.

"I wish she had stayed with me longer...I didn't even learn to hunt, and now I go hungry most of the days. I'm worthless grandfather, she was supposed to teach me everything, then she went and died on me." Avellano said, tears beginning to flow heavily. She pushed her cheek against his chest again, letting her tears fall onto his fur. "I...can't even hunt...." She said, feeling weak, and vulnerable laying with him. "I didn't want her to go." She cried, closing her eyes and curling up more, pushing herself against him with all her might. She felt like she wanted to disappear into him, become a part of him so she'd never have to be away from her family again. This was all that was left of her family...

Swishing his tail tiredly, Athrun swung a paw around his grand-daughter's back gently, licking the top of her head the way he had Annipe's whenever she had cried. It felt so akward knowing that this was in fact his grand-daughter. He had to remind himself that though they looked an awful lot alike, they weren't the same. Annipe had been kind, but she'd had a mouth on her, Avenello didn't seem to have that same mouth that her mother had.

"You were young, younger than you should have been. But if you ever want to learn I'll teach you. You'd think after a few hundred thousand years that I'd be able to hunt for myself right?" The old god said with a weak laugh. He'd taught his cubs before they'd been killed, now to teach this girl, it would feel like he would lose her too. One fell swoop sort of thing.

"She died, but she must have known in her heart that her daughter would be okay. She must have loved you very much, there was always so much love in her that even I couldn't stand it sometimes. So I know that she must have loved you with every ounce of it."

"It's too late for me to learn...." She trailed off, sniffing as the tears continued to flow steadily down her cheeks. "Thousands of years?" She said curiously, perking her ears. "So you are a god then?" She inquired, pausing to sniffle again, and then flicking her tail slightly, dropping her head again and giving in to his gentle licks. "I never really knew she loved me...I didn't ever feel very important to her. She was always talking about her brothers, and the fighting, and, I could tell that she wanted to love me, but there was so much else." Avellano sighed, closing her eyes again and then wriggling a bit under the weight of Athrun's paw and using her own to wipe the tears from her face. Nuzzling her newfound family member gently, she yawned widely, feeling tired again. Maybe she had worn herself out from crying so much, so it was her own fault. "I still miss her though....gods do I..." She trailed off, sighing again and resting her head back on his leg.

"It's never too late to learn, don't think like that. No matter what you come across in life, you can always fix it if you try to learn. It's just the way things are." Athrun said in an almost scolding voice. He would never let any of his children, grandchildren or even decendents in general think that they could never learn anything new just because they were a little older. You could always learn. It was ingrained in everything, the ability to learn.

"As for that, yes. I'm a god. Which is probably why you feel sadder than normal. Being my powers and all." The god said tiredly. "Now, as for your mother, sometimes the only way that you can show someone that you love them is different than the ways of another. Your mother must have showed how much she loved you by telling you stories of others that she felt the same about. Your grandmother did something like that as well, though you could tell she cared a lot."

He felt as if his heart would explode at anymoment. Just from the mere thoughts of the mate he had once loved so much made his heart squeeze and tears of blood run from his eyes out from under his blindfold and over white fur to show his anguish. Sometimes it sucked to have emotions as a god.

Avellano sighed. For her it was definately too late. Well, okay so maybe it wasn't, but she didn't even want to try, that was all. Rolling a little under his paw, she rested on her side, looking up at him curiously. "Are you okay?" She asked, slightly afraid of his tears. The young lioness couldn't help but yawn again, feeling all the more tired the longer they talked. She nuzzled him again, beginning to feel unable to keep her eyes open. As her lids drooped slowly, Avellano yawned again, a small noise escaping her before she let her head fall against him again.

Purring loudly, she snuggled against him lovingly, licking his leg again before she let her eyes close, knowing that the tiredness was winning out. "I'm glad I ran into you." Were the lioness' words as she drifted off, still purring, snuggled against her grandfather comfortably, thankful for his warmth and kindness. He was her family, and she wasn't letting him go any time soon.

Swishing his tail so that it rested on her head playfully the old god laid down and laid his head on his foreleg comfortably before spreading his one of his abnormally large white wings and laying it over his grand-daughters body slowly. To keep her safe from the sun, or so he thought. In reality it was his own subconscious mind holding onto the lives of his mate and his daughter that he'd lost so many years before.

He didn't want to let go of his young granddaughter again, to see another of his family die and have that remaining part of him suffer and pass on with her. Then Athrun wouldn't be himself any longer, though he wasn't sure if that was bad or good sometimes. Right now he just wanted to keep her safe, even if it meant the loss of his own immortal life.

Not that that would be a problem at all.

In fact he would probably enjoy it.

"I'm fine. Don't worry anymore little one." He said gently. "I'm very glad I ran into you too." He licked her cheek lightly in the most fatherly way he'd ever done anything in his long life and closed his eyes behind the blindfold that covered them from the sky.

Whether or not he'd ever see that sky the same way his granddaughter did, or without the blindfold he bore covering his eyes that looked like they'd fallen from the sky Athrun didn't know. But as he closed his eyes he knew he was holding onto the only part of the world he would care about for a long time. That thought in itself made him feel a little better, if not completely.
