After having a wonderful chat with his travelling companion (and now more) in the night, Kijibwa is in the highest of spirits. The day is bright, despite the leafy ceiling, and there's a spring in his step as he finally takes some of his spare time to look around the Jungle for himself. After following the stream so far from the waterfall, he'd headed off through the trees in a direction that is rather familiar to him. He is, as usual, mostly unaware of any creatures that are around him.

"And if you keep going this way," he says to himself, "You should come out in a clearing." Right or wrong, he certainly sounds confident in what he says, and makes no effort to keep his voice down.

The Jungle sure was strange. Chachili had never thought to enter it until today. It had been hot out on the savannah, and the thought of fresh vegetation made Chachili's mouth water.

"Phewth... I'm glad to be out of the heat," the klipspringer trotted further into the jungle, not knowing exactly where she was headed, but wanting to go somewhere away from the usual dusty area she knew, "But, eh, I'll be able to find my way back, right?"

She shook her doubts away with a toss of her head. No, she knew the way. She was, of course, born with an inate sense of direction... well, that's what she told herself, anyway. Chachili usually big-noted herself in such fashion, and would boast without even knowing that she was being... selfish. Her name did mean 'ignorant', after all.

Trotting onwards, the grey Klipspringer could hear the distant murmer of a waterfall up ahead. She came upon a clearing. The trees parted, and the sun shone bright through the thin layer of foliage above her.

"Where exactly am I?" she groaned, hoping she wouldn't meet anything strange in such unfamiliar territory.

It doesn't take long for Kijibwa to reach the clearing, and he is a bit surprised he remembered well enough to actually find this clearing. Growing up in the jungle must be enough to burn it in your memory! With a triumphant laugh, he steps through the trees, squinting at the extra light coming through.

"Bright," he mutters, looking towards the ground opposite where he'd come in- right at Chachili. His eyes widened at the sudden appearance of the grey creature, and the expression quickly turned to curiosity.

"Hello," he calls cheerfully, stepping out of the trees.

It wasn't the first time that another creature had caught her by surprise, and Chachili was used to being sprung upon by all sorts of animals. She'd met two cheetahs, one hare, and god-knows how many wild dogs.

But this creature... he was...

A lion...

Chachili's heart sped up, and she stumbled backwards. She wanted to run, to bolt away, but she stood, frozen, staring horrified at the thing before her.

"G...g...get... back..." her voice was almost a whine, shaking in a very un-Chachili fashion. She couldn't move. Her eyes locked into his.

What was he about to do? Strike her down? Eat her?

Chachili was now face-to-face with her greatest fear. She cowered, trembling, sweating a little. She was feeling a little sick.

Kijibwa is caught off guard when the strange grey thing just panics when he greets her, and it takes him a moment to absorb what she says. Get back? This thing is scared of him? The idea is laughable! He almost does laugh, but the look in her eyes stops him and he finally stumbles back a bit, sorry he didn't do so sooner.

"It's ok!" he says hurriedly, "I'm not going to hurt you.." He tries to keep his tone calm and friendly, and hopes that he isn't making things worse.

Chachili still didn't trust the lion. She didn't trust any lions.

Her memory as a fawn was flooding back to her. That great, sadistic beast who had slain, killed, and divided her herd had looked similar to Kijibwa. The markings had been different, sure, but a lion was a lion. That mane. That tail.

The klipspringer didn't dare relax.

'A lion. A lion. A lion!,' she thought, panicking a little. What if it grabbed her? Pulled her down? And she was pregnant... there was life inside of her, life she needed to protect. Strengthening, Chachili's courage returned.

She would protect her fawns. She wouldn't let them experience the same blood-soaked day Chachili had seen as a fawn, with her first encounter of a lion.

Stepping forward, Chachili lowered her head.

"I'll kick you," she warned, voice still quivering, "Don't touch me."

The black and white lion can see it in her eyes, see the distrust, see the fear. It bothers him, in fact- and he can't help but wonder why she is so afraid of him. He's big and fluffy, but he hadn't sounded anything but happy- had he?

What had he done but say hello?

Kijibwa frowns when Chachili steps forward with a threat, lowering her head. Whatever he did, it's obviously something worth fighting over. There's no way he's going to fight, though- he's faced more intimidating things than her and run.

"I won't, I won't," he says in what he hopes is a reassuring voice, taking a couple steps back so he is partially in the trees again, "No need to threaten me. I'm sorry if I offended you in some way!"

Maybe he's too happy? ... too loud? ... too furry?

Chachili's eyes softened a little, but she remained planted in one spot, ready to bolt away if the lion sprang at her.

There was a pause, a moment of silence... and Chachili looked into the creature's eyes. They seemed a little concerned, and a great deal more friendly than not. Maybe this lion... wasn't so bad?

"Your name?" Chachili growled, "Tell me your name."

It was a strange habbit of hers. Chachili never felt comfortable not knowing the name of another. A name was something, to Chachili, that resembled some trust. And she wasn't going to budge until the lion told her his.

She tilted her head slightly, staring at the lion with confused eyes.

He wasn't attacking her. He seemed alright. Maybe she was just too high-strung?

Kijibwa sits down, rather tense, amongst the low bushes around the trees he's backed into. He is unable to read any change in the Klipspringer's expression or opinion, so continues to assume that she isn't in the friendliest of moods or under the best of assumptions about him. But when she asks for his name, he relaxes a bit.

"My name is Kijibwa," he replies calmly, "What's your name?"

When she tilts her head, though, he does notice the change in her. Maybe she isn't so panicked now, more confused. She still looks ready to bolt, though. He makes a face and looks down at his paws, as if they have the answer.

"Kijibwa, huh?" Chachili relaxed a little, "Tell me... are you a lion, Kijibwa?"

She already knew the answer to this question, of course. But he seemed so... different from the lion of her nightmares. This one was much more calm, much more placid.

The grey little klipspringer took a gamble, and looked to the ground a little. Every now and then she'd look back up, ready to run, and if Kijibwa made any sudden movements, she'd jolt back.

Finally, it seemed like nothing was going to happen. Kijibwa was not... the same as the killer from her past.

"I'm Chachili," the words flowed shakily from Chachili's mouth, "And I'm a fighter. So I suggest you don't try anything. Understood?"

She spoke harshly, but her eyes glinted wet with fear. She felt like making a shrill, screaming noise through her nose, like Klipspringers usually did when threatened, but instead she held back. She couldn't show the lion she was scared.

It was obvious she was, however.

"S...sorry but," she paused, shaking, eyes narrowed, "I don't trust lions."

When questioned of what species he is, he hesitates and actually considers lying about being a lion. He decides against that when he realizes he doesn't want to lie, and that it may make him look more suspicious than he already is. The truth is always the best way to go, in his opinion.

"Yes, I am a lion," he says with a nod. Kiji stays seated quietly, trying not to move but twitching in his attempts. He nods when she speaks, explaining that she's a fighter, "I wouldn't try anything, I'm really not much for fighting.."

He watches her carefully when she apologizes, not surprised by what she says- she did ask if he's a lion, after all.

"Why not?" he asks, sounding genuinely curious.

Upon hearing that Kijibwa was, in fact, a lion, Chachili shuddered. She'd known, of course. But... she had needed to make sure. And she'd been right. He was a lion.

Cautiously, she shuffled a little.

"Alright, Kiji," she said, "I'll trust you for a moment, since I've been wrong about predators before. But don't try anything. I've already told you that, haven't I, and I'll say it again... Don't... try... anything!"

The klipspringer relaxed a little, once more, and gave a great sigh.
This lion didn't seem so bad. He still gave her the chills, but his friendly personality seemed a genuine one, rather than a fake.

"Lions eat Klipspringers, you know," Chachili huffed, "You eat meat, don't you? That's how you guys are meant to survive. And I don't trust lions because of that..." she paused, then stepped closer, looking solemnly towards the earth, "...lions are sadistic beasts who destroy life, aren't they?"

Kijibwa frowns when Chachili shudders, but he's pleased when she says that she'll trust him temporarily. He's quite sure he won't do anything to make her regret it, after all he is rather friendly, and not agressive or hungry...

"I won't, no worries," he assures her with a hopeful smile. He starts to wonder what there is to talk about with someone who doesn't truly trust you, until she speaks up.

"I- I know-" Kiji stammers in reply, "I do eat meat, but like you said I have to to survive." He frowns again, briefly wondering if he could possibly live off a vegetarian diet. A quick look at the unappetizing leaves around them tells him he couldn't.

"I'm not a sadistic beast who destroys life!" he says defensively, "I don't kill anything for pleasure, I don't take more life than I have to.."

And she's making him feel guilty for even that.

((Sorry for the delay, Ecavi! >< I went to a farm for a couple of days. Dx Many apologies for the late reply!))

Chachili frowned, then sighed. She gave a small, sad smile to Kijibwa.

"I'm sorry..." she laughed, but it was a sad, embarrassed laugh laced with sorrow, "I'm just... so sorry. To judge you like that isn't right. It's just..." she blushed, not knowing whether she should spill her secret. Nobody else knew of her secret, apart from an idiotic maned wolf who obviously hadn't understood her once she'd told him. But Kiji... he'd understand. He seemed to make sense.

"I'm carrying life within my belly," she said, finally, "And I'm over-protective of it, I guess. Especially meeting a lion... I need to protect myself. And the little ones inside of me."

She shifted, eyes to the ground.

"I guess we all need to survive, huh?" she paused, "If prey like me couldn't talk, it would be easier for hunters like you. No guilt. No nothing. But in real life, we speak. When you pull us down, we scream. Yet, you feel nothing?"

She was being harsh. Almost cruel, in fact. But Chachili was ignorant, after all.

(( No worries about the delay! I hope you had a good time :33

Chachili's fawns are beautiful xd

Oh, and I'm going to try to switch to past tense posting now -___-; It's hard trying to switch if keeping up some already-started RPs in present.. So, sorry if it's weird e.e; ))

Kiji was feeling guilty enough, and somehow the sad smile and sorrowful apology only made him feel worse. He watched her curiously, though still with a guilty expression, while she started to explain why she was being overprotective. His guilt was forgotten almost immediately when she said there was life in her belly, and his blue eyes dart immediately to it.

"What?" he blurted without thinking. It was clear from his expression it was news to him that life grew inside one's belly. Without his memory of his own family, all his knowledge of cubs came from conversations- and for all he knew from those was that somehow a mother and father had children, they could have popped off their fur for all he knew.

When she started to talk about prey again, he looked down at the ground. He had no answer for what Chachili was saying, what he was being accused of. He'd never thought about it before, thought about prey and their lives. It'd always been easier that way, it was how he'd been taught, how he'd taught himself.
