I just saw this article today. I thought we should discuss everyone's opinions on this matter. Not just on the topic of breastfeeding but your opinions on the picture as well as your opinions on breastfeeding in public.
I would like to leave the Intro itself unbiased so I will put my opinion in another post.

It really doesn't bother me. It'd be nice if all mothers used a blanket, but it's their choice if they choose not to use one.
And if it bothers me enough, I can just avoid looking. Simple as that.

I would like to breastfeed one day, when I have children of my own. 3nodding

(Btw I edited the link a bit so it wouldn't stretch out the page. Users can just copy and paste it into their address bar, instead of clicking on it.)

Sorry I didnt realize it was stretching. I agree I think women should cover themselves but most that I have seen do. It is aggrivating because its a double standard everyone screams "breast is best" but if your breastfeeding you better not come out in public during feeding time. When I told my husband about the line in the article with the woman freaked out that her husband might see it, he said "what does he have no self control" thats the problem with the way people are treating it they are acting like it is some sexual act because it involves breast exposure yet most women arent flaunting themselves during this act they are just trying to comfort and feed there child. I hope that this gets better soon because it is becoming ridiculous, I already feel that when I breast feed I will not be able to leave the house.

I have zero plans to breastfeed, I didn't even try nor plan to.

With that being said, people are getting all huffy over nothing. It's not like any n****e is being shown and it IS a parenting/baby magazine. With all the breast is best (there's even this new "study" saying that breastfed babies have less anxiety issues), what person hasn't known or seen this stuff? I really don't get the feeling that breastfeeding is being shunned, it's being encouraged and on the flip side, I have felt immense pressure and even shame from others that I don't want to breastfeed--at all. An example of this is the WHO (World Health Organization) saying formula feeding is similar to SMOKING while pregnant.

I do think it's amusing that people get all pissy over a baby FEEDING, which is a natural thing, yet on the same shelf is some scantily clad model with her headlights peering through her string bikini, but nothing is said about that.

The picture is fine. For goodness sake, I really don't understand women's outrage on seeing an infant breastfeeding on the cover of a parenting magazine. Good on them for putting it on the cover.

As per the topic of breastfeeding in public, I have no problem with it. Though I realize it can make some feel awkward, there honestly is the option of not looking.

The picture is not offensive at all. There is an over-sexualization of breasts in our culture, that we forget what they were made for. Something like an innocent picture of a mom feeding her baby on the cover of a parenting magazine is completely harmless! It is less skin than is shown on the average cover of many fashion magazines. rolleyes

I am not bothered at all by breastfeeding in public, because for the most part it is done tastefully. I plan to breastfeed when I have children, and I don't think women should feel ashamed to feed their babies when they are hungry even if that means feeding in public.

I am going to update soon with some of the other contriversy I have read about somtime today or tommorow. Ex: At some point in the last year I read about a woman in london who was told to either leave the restaurant or go to the bathroom to breastfeed. Another thing I read was that victoria secret has a strict store policy about letting women breastfeed in the changing room.

If I ever have kids, I'm going to breast feed and if people don't like if they can just deal with it. (It's healthier and cheaper) They don't say anything about these half-naked girls on the MTV or the girls in porn and stuff who show everything but yet it's automatically taboo when you use them the way they were meant to be used.

A girl I went to school with asked if women breastfeed girl babies, like it's some kind of sexual act scream It's amazing how stupid people can be.
