i was wondering how that was going, only things i've heard about it were months ago, and it was basicly that the bill was on the table and planned parenthood was bitching a fit blaugh

kinda glad to know it didn't just curl up and die. I'm interested to see where this goes.

It would be an interesting experiment at the very least. Many peopel agree that we can't out right ban elective abortions, yet SD is doing it righ tnow, or trying to. Its also interesting that the supreme court recently sighned a bill mackign it illigle to transpot a minor over state line sin order to obtain an abortion in a state that only need parents be notified, or nothign at all.

This will be very interesting.

Well, now that Bush has put in supreme court justices that actually believe people have rights (shocking) If it does pass, i'll bet the supreme court will respect each states right to govern democratically within it's own boarders. I'm not too worried about the supreme court, i'm more worried about SD's local representatives. It's a good start though. I hope it gets through.

You should have heard the stink planned parenthood made when the bill was announced rofl

I did. They tried to pull every peace of rhetoric they new, even encouraged people move and stop touring the state. Please...

Abortion should have been a state by state rullign any ways. Its a power not delegated to the supreme court. But, some a** hole tried to push that it was a right in the ammendments (the right to privacy if I beleive) sadly, privacy doe snot include th ekilling of another human being for any reason.

I just can't believe they took the plunge and did it. Part of me is excited they're doing the right thing. It feels like a grand experiment. I wonder what they're going to do to....compensate if you will.

Not that I've ever lived in South Dakota. Maybe they treat women better there so they don't feel abortion is that much of a "neccesity". SD only has one clinic. If there is such small demand then I have a hard time picturing this as a panic situation as it would be in more heavily urbanized areas.

planned parenthood has already said they would continue to offer abortions in direct defiance of the law even if it was passed

how cool would it be to see them all go off in chains?

South Dakota is the first step to eliminating abortion as birth control. If/Once it's past, the Supreme Court will have to evaluate it. Depending on that evaluation, will determine abortion's future in this country.

Seems more like they care about money then people or laws. They would risk doing something illegal (which can effect others) just for money? Sad really. I don't trust them, they seem baised to me, if I need birth control or anything I would talk to my doctor since they tell you the dose to take anyways (different ones have different doeses of hormones that can effect people.).

I rather doubt that they are planning on doing so because of money. Planned Parenthood does not make much, if any profit. I know that the one I go to gives me check ups and birth control for free as I have no money (they do far more than just give out abortions). And they have done so since I was rather young (got my first exam there, was put on birth control for health/hormonal reasons which I and my mother could not have afforded otherwise).

My doctor, when I could afford to go to him, told me to go there, as they have a sliding pay scale and he doesn't.

I found out that the pro-choicers have a huge edge in the vote in november.
"The statewide survey of 800 registered voters found 47 percent opposed the strict ban, while 39 percent favored it. The remaining 14 percent were undecided. The poll had a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points."

Most think that its because the ban doesn't have rape/health/incest exceptions.

Why don't they have an exception?
