girls occasionlly use boku with their friends. usually the more boyish and tough one.

also a note boku, men here at gaia use "watashi" much, boku even use sometime at moderate polite conversation, using watashi too much will indager your masculinity.

lol

Everytime I use "boku" my friend Marisha gives me a funny look, but boku is NOT just for boys. I hear girls saying 'boku' all the time in anime and in music. It's just alot more casual than watashi, and I guess girls are expected to be more polite, hence less casual. Tomboyishness might play a factor too, but I've seen plenty of girly girls use 'boku' too. (BoA).

But wutev. In short-GIRLS CAN USE BOKU TOO 3nodding .

Boku wa sore o itsumo suru xd .

....In Fukuoka and Kitakyushu only girls that were trying to be yanki's used boku. Everyone else used Watashi or Atashi ^_^ And guys who were trying to be ridiculously masculine or girls who seriously thought they were gangsters used Ore.

I guess it all depends on the context^^ I am not a japanese speaker, nor do I watch anime, but I've listened to enough japanese conversation to come to an end; everything depends on the context^^ i guess then girls can use "boku" as well wink .
as a difference from my native languages (italian and french), i have noticed that japanese language doesn't follow such strict rules when it comes to oral conversation.
again, i might be wrong, but not stupid^^

Boku can be confusing. Best thing to do is avoid it if you don't understand.

Um, what about bokura? In a song, there's a part that goes 'Bokura wa doko made mo, kagayaiteta.' I've heard Shippo from Inuyasha use that too. O.o
