Ieyasu made his way down the path towards Foenix's house, setting a quick pace. He was worried, and it showed in his general body language. In his arms, he was carrying Sasha, who was wriggling a little, chirruping in a manner that suggested she was not entirely pleased with her current situation.
Trying to keep pace with his much taller guardian, Osusuki followed behind Ieyasu, his normally energetic manner seeming to be very much subdued. Ieyasu had done his best to reassure the youngster that Sasha would be ok even if she had been bitten by a snake, but the spellweaver was still upset that he had allowed her to be hurt.
"Yassu... where are we goin'..?" the child asked after a moment. He thought that they were going to the centre, but it was off that way.
"We're going to go see Foenix and Nehanda. They helped you before when you got burned, so perhaps they'll be able to make sure that Sasha's ok," Ieyasu replied, shifting Sasha's weight onto one arm so that he had a hand free to knock at the door. The tiger-osprey cross was not the smallest of gryphons, especially when she insisted on wriggling and beating her wings in protest. The area where she had received the snakebite had swollen up, but for the most part she still seemed relatively unaffected. Best to make sure though. Ieyasu couldn't say that he was an expert on snakes or snakebite.
Knocking at the door to Foenix and Nehanda's house, the kitsune hoped that they were in. If not, he'd have to try to think of something else.

Foenix opened the front door, a mug of tea in one hand and her knitting needles in the other. She had just been in the process of settling down for a quiet, relaxing afternoon. Oleo was taking a little nap, and Nehanda was up in her workroom, doing . . . something plant related.
One look at Yasu and the gryphon in his arms, however, indicated that her plans would have to postponed. "Goodness, Yasu! Come in. Is something wrong with Sasha?" She stepped out of the way and gestured for them to enter. Only then did she notice Osu, trailing along behind his guardian. "Osu, it's good to see you. Come on in. I expect you're here for Handa, hmmm? I'll call her down."
She swung away, clearing space on the couch so that Yasu could place Sasha there, then walked quickly to the narrow steps up to the second floor. "Nehanda? Come down here, please. It looks like Yasu and Sasha-ken have a little emergency!"

"Hey Foenix," Ieyasu began as she opened the door. There was still a note of worry in his tone. "I'm sorry to bother you guys, but Sasha's been bitten by a snake. "
The gryphon squirmed in his arms, giving a high pitched chirp before nipping at Ieyasu's arm. She still wanted to go back and show that long wriggly thing what was what! It should have been her that bit it, not the other way around.
Ieyasu grimaced faintly, before continuing as he followed Foenix inside. "She's still energetic anyway. All I can see is that her leg has swollen a bit, but I don't know very much about snakebites. I just want to make sure that she's ok."
As the kitsune moved to place Sasha down on the couch, the gryphon half-wriggled free herself. Almost haughtily, she stared at Ieyasu before giving an indignant chirp. She didn't understand what all the fuss was about, and why she couldn't show the wriggly rope thing who was boss. Although, her leg was kind of sore..
As Foenix addressed Osu, the young spellweaver looked up at her. His greeting wasn't as cheerful as it usually was. "Hi Feenix.." Following them into the room, he headed over to the couch beside the gryphon before speaking up again. "Sasha's gonna be ok, right?" His voice had a note of urgency to it, making it fairly obvious that the young Aerandir was also worried about the gryphon.

Nehanda had emerged from her workroom and was coming down the ladder just in time to hear Ieyasu's words. "Hi, Yasu, Osu." She nodded to each quickly before kneeling down beside Sasha. "You said a snake bit her? Do you know what kind? Or can you tell me what it looked like?" Turning her head, she glanced over at Foenix. "Foenix, that book Aly gave us on Cetalu flora and fauna should be in your office. I remember looking at the chapter on snakes and other reptiles. If we can figure out what bit her, I'll know what to do for Sasha."
While her guardian hurried off in search of the book, she ran gentle yet firm fingers over Sasha. "Shush there," she murmured to the impatient gryphon. "I need to make sure that the snake didn't put any poisons inside you when it bit you. Does that make sense? The sooner you calm down and let me look at the bite, the sooner you can go back to what you were doing."
While she waited for the gryphon to consider her words, Nehanda smiled over at Osu. "Don't be too worried, Osu. I'm pretty sure it can't have been anything too serious. Just look at Sasha! She wants to go fight the snake again!"

Osu gazed at Nehanda for a moment. She had sure gotten big since he had last seen her. He didn't dwell on that thought for long though, as he turned his attention to Sasha. 'Handa was right, she was jumpy. After a moment, he nodded. "Yeah.." He seemed a little happier, as if he had settled a little.
"Um.. it was a biig browny-yellow snake this long-" Osu spread his arms as wide as he possibly could. "It was sleepin' in the garden and Sasha tried to sneak up and jump on it. She does that lots."
Ieyasu stepped back, allowing Osu to give the description to Nehanda. The spellweaver was the only one apart from Sasha that had actually seen the snake afterall. He also seemed to have cheered up slightly, which was good. After Osu had finished, the tall kitsune added "I didn't see the snake. It happened when I was coming back to the house.."
Sasha fidgeted on the couch, still unable to see what all the fuss was about. She chirped incessantly at Nehanda for a few moments, ruffling her wings before cooling a little. Fine. If they weren't going to let her back out right now, then they could at least hurry up.
Finally, almost reluctantly, the gryphon conceded enough to allow Nehanda to take a closer look at her paw.

"Hmmm." Nehanda pushed Sahsa's fur aside and gazed at the bite. "Well, it doesn't actually look like a puncture. More like the snake bit down and ground its teeth in. That and its coloring should give me a good place to start."
She reached out for the book Foenix handed her, and flipped quickly to the correct chapter. "Okay, Osu, we're going to look through this until we find the right snake." She passed over the most dangerous, those with frontal fangs that could inject the more deadly venims. "Just find a picture of the snake, so that I know what to do for Sasha."
But while the little spell-caster searched, there were things she could do to relieve the other aspects of the injury. "Foenix, I'm gonna make a little mess in the kitchen." The swan-maiden got up and moved into the next room, where she proceeded to create a poltice of crushed aloe vera leaves, castor oil and goldenseal. All would fight the general damage done to Sasha's skin and flesh, and begin to strength her immune system.
Once this was ready, she placed the pulped mush onto a clean cloth and carried it back into the main room. "Sasha, I need you to hold still for me, okay? I'm going to tie this over the bite. It'll help make the bite stop hurting."
She gave Yasu a reassuring smile, and placed a hand on Osu's shoulder. "any luck finding the snake?"

Ieyasu nodded his head as Nehanda spoke. That was more reassuring, at least. He glanced at Osu as the young spellweaver took the book from the older Aerandir.
Osu nodded his head. "Ok." Glad to be able to do something to help, he began leafing through the pages. There were so many snakes in this book. Were they all pois'nous and were they all on Cetalu?? Eventually, he found a picture that kind of looked like the snake that had bitten Sasha. The picture was a bit more browny coloured, and the real snake was much bigger, but Osu figured that was the right one.
"I think it's this one." Osu replied, looking up at Nehanda as she returned, pointing to a picture of a brown tree snake. "The real one was a bit more yellowy an' bigger though."
Sasha tilted her head at Nehanda as she returned with the cloth. She had quieted down a good bit now. However, she couldn't help but reach out to give the corner of the cloth an experimenal tug with her beak before allowing Nehanda to tie it to her leg.

Nehanda quickly read over the description of the brown tree snake, and sighed in relief. "I think you got lucky this time," she murmured to Sasha as she finished tying the poltice on. She raised her voice for everyone else's benefit. "This snake injects its venom through some of its rear teeth, and it has to chew on its victim for a while for the venom to really be effective."
She cast a critical eye over the gryphon, who showed absolutely no signs of respiratory distress. "I don't think the snake had nearly enough time. Sasha should be just fine." She pushed herself to her feet, wings flaring just the tiniest bit for balance, and ruffled Osu's hair. "You did a really good job. Thanks for the help." She then turned to Yasu. "I can give you a few vitamins to strength Sasha's immune system, just in case. And if you can get her to eat citrus fruit, the vitamins A and C will do the same thing. I'll just add a little something to that poltice . . ."
Quickly, she walked over into the kitchen and came out with a pineapple. "I know it sounds a little silly, but pineapple contains a lot of something called bromelain. Snake venims are primarily protein, and bromelain does a really good job of breaking down proteins. I'll put some mashed pineapple over Sasha's bite, and it will help destroy any venem left in there."
It didn't take long to do this, and she gave Yasu a package containing the rest of the pineapple and several more aloe vera leaves. "It'd be a good idea if you can convince her to wear the poltices for another day or two, just until the bite starts closing up. And bring her back if anything doesn't look right."

Osu stared up at Nehanda, his eyes growing wide. "Really? She's gonna be ok??" He suddenly bounced forward, giving the older Aerandir a hug around her waist. "Thankyouthankyouthankyou!" Pausing to grab a breath, he beamed up at Nehanda slightly sheepishly before letting go again.
Ieyasu grinned at Osu's outburst. Well, that had cheered him up no end. Not to mention himself. It was a relief to know that everything seemed ok. Taking the package with the pineapple and aloe vera, he gave the Aerandir a grateful smile.
"Thanks so much for helping. We were really worried about her. If there's anything we can ever do for you, just give us a shout."
Sasha paused for a moment, inspecting the poultice that was now on her paw. How odd. She nudged at it for a moment, before realising that now was the opportunity to escape the couch. Scooting over to the edge, she hopped down onto the ground with a flutter of wings. Chirruping happily, she wandered around the rest of the room, wondering if there was anything to jump on here. Finding nothing, she meandered back to Ieyasu, chirruping up at him. She still wanted to get her revenge on that snake!
(( I wasn't sure if I was to write a finishing post or not. smile We could finish here if you like, or if you want to make another post then that would work too biggrin ))

((Heh. I guess I'll just post another for the hell of it. biggrin ))
Nehanda grinned down at Osu, and returned the hug. "I'm glad I could help! It looks like you're taking really good care of your little sister." She watched critically as Sasha explored. The rambunctous little gryphon was only limping a little, and seemed to be in very good spirits. Things should be fine. She smiled at Yasu and shrugged. "It's my job, after all. I'm really just relieved it wasn't anything more poisonous.
Foenix, who until now had elected to stand back and let her charge concentrate, now stepped forward. "That was a really good job, hun." she placed a hand on Nehanda's shoulder and squeezed reassuringly. "I'll go clean up in the kitchen, so you can relax."

(( Hehe biggrin )) Ieyasu smiled again, nodding his head. "Well, thank you again. I should go and make sure that the snake's not still there. Osu, Sasha, are you ready to go home?"
The kitsune headed over towards the door, still holding the package. He turned, grinning, and lifted a hand in a goodbye gesture. "Goodbye, and thanks. No doubt we'll see you again soon!"
Seeing he guardian begin to move towards the door, Sasha followed, weaving around his legs. Her paw still kind of hurt, but at least she was being allowed to do stuff by herself now. Chirruping insistently at Ieyasu, she scooted out of the door ahead of him.
Osu grinned, nodding his head. "Thanks Handa." He stepped back for a moment. "You're so tall now.." He gazed upwards, pausing before beaming at her again. "Bye bye, Handa!" Turning, he darted after Yasu.
