Weather: Cool. breezy with just a touch of rain in the air.
Beth is: Busy watching her soaps. It's a climatic scene, people!
Shy is: In his office, trying to figure out if a chocolate dragon is tempting fate.

Nereida ran ahead of her mother, splashing in whatever small puddles she could find. It had been raining off and on all morning, but not really enough for anything substantial. Even so, with enough puddles she'd managed to soak her bare feet and turn the hems of her loose brown pants a satisfying shade of wet. "Moooom! Come on!" she called back to Silverah, turning around. "We're gonna be late!" She appeared to make some sort of hand gesture, but it got lost in the oversized sleeves of her hoodie.
Rolling her eyes, Silverah caught up with her charge. "Alright, kiddo," she stated, approaching the 030 building. "Here we go." She opened the door and made an "After you" gesture to Nereida, who trudged in on sodden feet. Silverah followed her and approached the desk. "Beth? We're here to see Shy."

Beth had a hanky to her nose and let out a rather disgusting sniffle at something that happened in a screen hidden from the view of Silverah and Nereida. She sniffed once more, blowing her nose and waved them on.
"Thirteenth floor." she managed, letting out another wail. "Why Brooks, WHYYYYYYYY??" throwing the hankerchief at the screen in disgust, she rubbed at her eyes blurrily.
Professional composure? Hah! What was that?
Intent now, as she realized she had never seen this little girl before, she leaned forewords- never mind the blotchy eyes and sntty nose. "You're very pretty, you know." she managed. "Don't lead boys and girls on, okay? Like Brooks." her expression darkened.
Stupid Brooks.

Nereida cocked her head and looked at the woman, confused. "Okay?" she agreed hesitantly. There appeared to be something wrong with the woman, but she'd ponder it later - she had a new destination! The wall of elevators! She ran ahead of Silverah and pressed the up button with a flourish. A moment later it slid open and she stepped inside, Silverah a few steps behind.
"Floor thirteen!" she exclaimed, finding the button and pressing it. The doors slid shut and the elevator carried them up, pinging as they passed each floor. Finally, they reached their destination and the doors slid open. Nereida bounced excitedly out into the hall, her mother following in some sort of confused daze at the child's enthusiasm to be going to the doctor's of all places!
"Shy?" Silverah called. "We're here!"

Shy had just been making something of a frantic dash from one side of the hall to another, so he heard the girl before he saw her. "Hello." he said, smiling as he watched her. Why, look at how pretty she was!
Sometimes Shy wished there were more people to pat him on the back for the miracles he achieved.
"Why don't the both of you come into my office?" Her name was... Nereida, he thought. Maybe plus or minus an accent- the man had ingenious sources when it came to spying on his charges.
Sometimes those little microchips were good for something.
"It is a good day, is it not?" he asked, politely more than because he really cared. Shy focused all of his attention on his project.
Who cared what the weather was like?

"I liked it better when it was raining," Nereida murmured with a sould like water bubbling. She shrugged, making an iffy face. "Or maybe it was sunny and I could go to the beach. This weather's not good for much." She glanced up at Silverah momentarily before following Shy into the office.
"This place is huge!"

Shy beamed, proud she had noticed. "It is, isn't it?" he said, sighing happily as he nodded his head. "Well, why don't you come this way then? We'll go into my office, and you can tell me how your day was." he was beaming as he said all this, nodding his head as he led her to the desk. The door was already wide open- there was no need to work with that.
She was cute-- a bit different from the more human fae he had met so far, but it wasn't as if he was complaining. It was on the tip of his tongue to ask what she was made from- but he could ask her guardian that question later.
"Now, please. Have a seat. Help yourself to something to eat." he gestured to the sweet pastries, nodding with happiness.
He was so busy with his fae these days. He was so happy.

Nereida practically pulled Silverah into the office and over towards the chairs. "My day's been good," she shrugged. "Yesterday was better, though. We went to the beach with Kayce n' Dierdre... and Iris and Tomoko. But they left earl. We fought a seamonster!"
Silverah gave Nereida a look as if she had known nothing about this. Which she hadn't. Nereida struggled to cover the confession.
"Not a real monster, I mean. Just a pretend one," she explained (lie number one.) "We weren't in danger." (Lie number two.) "It got away." (Lie number three.)
Nereida glanced down at the pastries and wished it were something like sushi. Silverah, feeling it was wrong to turn down the offer twice, picked a rather tame looking cookie.

Shy arched a brow a sea monster? Deciding that it must have been one of those 'child games' type of thing, he nodded his head. "Nereida, don't you like cookies?" he asked. "Or pastries?"
Hmmm. Maybe she was a healthy thing. Ugh. Where had he gone wroooong??!
Dramatics aside, he nodded. "Silver, Nereida. You'll be introduced to Nereida (your) tutors today. Two of them. They'll lead you through your medical evaluations, make sure everything is working fine and later, when you've discovered your power, they'll also help you with that too." he smiled, nodding. It was easy!
Besides, he was curious about her too.
"They should be here soon." he hadn't paged them, but the teens had an uncanny sense when it came to knowing when new fae arrived. "But until then... Silverah?" he arched a brow. "How is... Nereida?"
It was a scientific question, not one meant to span polite talk.

"I like fish better," Nereida explained, examining the tray again. Feeling compelled, she located a peice of fudge. "Chocolate's good, too," she stated, taking a bite.
"She's been good," Silverah said, considering the question. "Sleeps in a full bathtub, plays well with others, gets along with her sister, breathes underwater, Obsesses over the beach, swims like a fish, insists on sushi twice a week. Yeah. She's great. But er... I guess I should telll you we're not certain she's a she."

Shy smiled, a little bit of smug superiority entering his voice. "She is such a unique one. Our first ambiguous fae." there was a note of pride too-- pride at how much his project was accomplishing, evolving. Leaning back and taking a small nibble out of his own piece of fudge, he nodded.
"She is strong enough that whatever nuances she has, special... requirements she might need met, that even if you have not discovered it by now, it wouldn't have harmed her growth." he paused. He hoped, anyways. But he wasn't going to let a woman in one his fears.
That was unprofessional!
"Although I suppose anything that could be... different with her, would already have been made obvious." watching her, her eyes, the slight thick texture of her ears, he smiled, beaming.
What would she look like, when she was fully matured?
"Do you have any questions?" he asked. It was best to get this over and done with, in the beginning.

"Well," shrugged Silverah. "The breathing underwater and sleeping in the bathtub... should that have clued me in to any othe needs I'm completely missing?"
Nereida groaned and sank down in her seat. They were off doing their grown-up thing again, talking about her like she wasn't even there. How utterly typical.

Shy shrugged. "Water, maybe. Ph levels, whether salt or fresh water is better for as her environment, temperatures, how long she needs to remain submerged? If it holds any important actions. Does she dry out? Does she get dehyrdated more easily? Diet?" he smiled. "Her tutors will help her figure this all out."
With that, he diverted his attention, as he had the habit of doing. "Now, Nereida. I'm going to introduce you to two tutors. If you disocver anything unusual, any changes that happen to your body, let them know, okay?"
He frowned, slightly. Speaking of tutors. What was taking them so long?
"I told you, we should have called a taxi."
"Taxi?! What were we doing out in the first place? Goddammit Ae, you know better then the trust..."
"hush."
The argument was cut off as two fae walked into the room. Slightly older then your average teen tutor, the woman was clad in human clothing- that was jeans, a low v neck lilac sweater and a multi hued scarf around her head. The man was dressed in the typical garb of a scientist. Strict. Formal. And just slightly obtuse.
"Shy." Ae said, breathless. "I'm sorry. Trojan held us up."

Nereida looked over at the two older fae who had just entered. These were the oldest she'd ever met - they made them that old? Was she going to get that old? It was weird to even consider.
Well, best be polite.
"Hello?" she said. There was a hint of a question in her voice. How on earth were you supposed to behave in a situation like this?
"I'm Nereida," she added, "Who're you?"

Ae paused. "Aren't you gorgeous~" with the behavior of a woman high on some maternal drug, she walked forewords, bent down, and smiled. A bit too much maybe, but she had a weakness for the young ones. Especially the girls. Little girls with their little...
...
Girls... hmm.
"Shy, we'll have her back soon, okay?" she cooed, and the scientist watched her with a myriad of expressions.
"You two, again?" he asked.
"Well." Trojan started. "Ritsuki's getting old, and we want another one to look after. Kind of like... practice. You know."
Shy smirked.
"Well, Nereida. They'll be taking you into a room to run some tests. Silverah will be here with me, however. It's a private affair." the last was directed at the guardian.
"I'm Ae, Nereida, and this is Trojan. We'll be your tutors, okay?" Ae said, gentle. Calm. And a bit too overly croony.
