Am i the only one that thought that Roaul was a litle gay?? I mean, he was WAY over protective of Christine, He had long, flowy hair, cried during Past the Point of No REturn and he just looked it. I'm not making a stern point if you think I'm wrong tell me, if you agree tell me. this is just opinoins not hardcore facts.

In Leroux's book, Raoul was described as having girly features.

If I were Raoul and a crazy, merciless murderer was after Christine I'd probably be a bit overprotective too. o.o Erik had long hair...er...wig too! He cried...? Well, that's just how Webber portrayed it. I don't remember the tears, though.

Long hair in that time period was not unusual. He loved Christine. If you love a female you can not be gay. If I had a physco after; me my fiancee or someone else I care about alot. I'd be super over proective Or I'd want someone to be super over protective. =-|

Uh, no, I think it's just you. If he were gay, you might see him macking on the Phantom or the managers; but no, the center of his affections is Christine. Besides, the only times he cries in the entire movie (he doesn't cry in the musical), is when he sees Christine and Erik in Point of No Return (which is generally construed as tears of disgust/horror/fascination, since it is the first time Raoul has seen the two. Oh, and because some crazy freak is stealing his girlfriend; that might have something to do with it); and at the end, when he is being strangled, having his life threatened, and his continued existance hangs on Christine's answer to a lunatic's question. And that's not to even touch Erik's qualifications. So, no, your gaydar is malfunctioning. A precious Ingenue Long hair in that time period was not unusual. =-| Actually, it was. All the fashions were shorter styles even in 1870, when the film supposedly took place ( rolleyes ). Long hair went out of fashion somewhere around or before 1848 I think.

Who? Raoul or Erik?
Raoul didn't actually cry--he just got teary and watery-eyed, but they never fell.
Unlike Erik who falls into face-crumpling convulsive sobs. c.c

okay okay okay okay. my points are all worn and i see that now. But he is girlish. Plus I was cheering for the phantom, i didn't like Roauls character, so maybe that's why he came across as gay to me. and he woouldn't be macking on the phantom because back then gaynes was accepted, he would do his best to hide it if he was gay.

Raouls is supposed to be girly. Haven't you read the book? Leroux states that he has girlish features. If I had the book infront of me, I would quote it.

Raoul had girly features, does not make him gay, having long hair doesn't either...what if Raoul had his head shaved...*shudders*. Look guys are aloud to cry it's not wimpy, and plus guys get more attention and hugs. But really he was not gay, neither are the mangers...not unless there are facts that state it true. And if Raoul was gay wouldn't he more attracted to the masked maniac (sorry but it's true, but I don't hate Erik) and not after Christine, he loved Christine not guys. Also you shouldn't hate Raoul he kept the phantom single lol .

hey, long hair does NOT mean he is gay. I love his hair. It is so pretty. Don't you just want to go up and fluff and cuddle it? I DO. And If you were being strangled and your lover was trying to make a life or misery/death dicision, wouldn't you be slightly emoptional. Phantom is a baby.

What about the sword fight (which he won) and turning that wheel UNDERWATER? Not very girly, if you ask me. The hair fits the era anyway.
Blame Patrick Wilson. Bloody pretty boy. lol

Raoul was also in the navy.If he did cry anyone would I mean there are diffrent types of tears too. Like sadnnes and anger and happines. (woh Erik did all of this) And it is kinda okay when Erik cries in the book because he was a bit coco and he was losing the one he loved (and obbessed over O.o) So yeah I like Raoul, and he has a good heart (though no ones as cool as Erik) heart

The Raoul I saw in Calgary was pretty gay. He ran like a fairy, with the high fairy kick steps. My (male) cousin thought he was cute, lol.
The Raoul: not a chance.
