I've found that a lot of Dojos, or whatever your training hall is called, are teaching the Traditional way... and yet focusing on Real Life Defense. My opinion is that Traditional arts are useless in fights. Yet countless Martial Artists have a false security that they can defend themselves.

You may wish to check your title, it's spelt martial...

The traditional arts are used because they are so effective, a traditional martial-art focuses on what you call real-life defense. Not many samurai entered tournaments and comps like non-traditional martial-arts. No martial-artist has a false sense of security, or they are not a martial-artist. In a real life defense, you would not use non-traditional spinning kicks, and flying kicks! That is just plain stupid! A simple upper cut or a jab to the nose would suffice much better. A martial-artist is always ready and never secure. No people are replying because it is a stupid argument and so far nobody agrees with you.

I don't like the word traditional to me it's like training in old weapons like swords its traditional. Unarmed combat must change with the times you will still have the same techniques those wont change much but you must grow and learn to deal with modern combat. I feel most schools that call them selves traditional stay to what they know martial arts can't stay the same the whole idea is to keep learning and become a better fighter not just teach the same old stuff over and over.

Mixed martial arts are not new most styles have mixed in the past to become what they are now that must happen in order to become better than what it already is. Any martial art has its own traditions most schools have a pledge motos and philosophy. If they are passing on info that they learned from some one than it is a traditional art thats what a tradition is. If I take my Wing Chun and mix it with Jujutsu like I would like to and come up with my own thoughts on fighting and start to teach that than it will become traditional after that knowledge is passed on to others and they start to pass it on.

You don't need to do some style thats hundreds or sevral hundreds of years old to call it traditional.

I believe people who practice Traditional Martial Arts are to robotic I mean dont get me wrong believe every Art has its strong and weak points but I'd rather Have an Art that Flows in a set rhytme or moves on there toes often.
