Asad worked on chipping the bits of stone off the edge of what would eventually be a spearhead for himself, now and then glancing up to the large form of a sunning grey lion sprawled outside of Bat's dwelling. It was getting bigger, much bigger now that it had put on some weight. It was tame enough, never seemed hostile as a cub and as an adolecent it seemed rather like a big kitten than a lion. Its ears still drooped down since they weren't ever in use. They'd flick now and then if they were bothered or in an expression of hunger whenever Bat came to feed him. Much of the village was wary of it still, recently Bat had decided he was tame enough to let off the rope though it had a tribal collar on it to mark it as his and not something for the men to spear.
Kayin yawned dully, stretching his large paws out in front of him with a smile. His belly was turned up to catch the sun so stretching made him look quite silly. Of course, the only animals here to judge him were the dogs and wild dogs... the dogs spoke in a strange language but he'd watched them for clues on the tricks he had to do for food. It was a good life. No hunting, no being hit, no being ignored..... still he missed his brother and sister. Thinking of them often, he often would nudge Bat when he felt lonely, getting some of the strange attention that the two-legs gave when he did that.

Bat himself yawned dully, shifting his hat slightly over his eyes. It was intermitantly possibly to mistake him for lazy, but this wasn't precisely the case. Full daylight made him feel tired and slow, much as though he were a lion himself, saving his energy in the heat of the day.
Snick and Snap, the two massive dogs rested their chins alertly on their paws, though their eyes were half lidded. Their ears flicked every so often at a fly or such, or one would whirl to chew at a bug bite, but for the most part they look as languid as Bat and the lion cub.
The intermitant twitch of Bat's cigarette also speaks of more activity than his relaxed posture, back against the wall of the hut, would otherwise imply. It's a sign of restlessness...usualy preceeding one of his long disapearances to do business at the railroads, but more cigarettes...such things as that. Only this time he had the cub to worry about...if you could really call him a cub anymore.

"He's getting big." Asad observed, carefully chipping off another section of the stone he had been working on. "His mane is almost all the way done... not as big as a lot of the wild ones. You spoil him too much, I think you should make it hunt on its own more."
Of course they'd both seen how clumsy the lion was during hunts. It was all too obvious that it was deaf. The trumpet of the cheif could sound and the lion wouldn't so much as twitch a whisker. With no concept of sound it was hard to judge how to step lightly, how much sound he was making when he prowled. During the night, however, he had proved to be a decent enough watch. Laying fully alert outside of Bat's hut watching out in front and occassionally circling himself around to a new position to lounge. "Have you thought of a name just yet? Or am I to call it the grey useless lump?"
Kayin only sighed in contentment, stretching his large paws out towards Bat, normally a plead for attention or play.

"It -can't- hunt." Bat grumbled, scratching the massive lion between the ears. "And it's a b*****d to train..." He added. Other than letting the massive lion keep watch, he wasn't quite sure how to go about training it, since it was difficult to give it visual clues on the trail, since that required having the creatures attention. If he didnt think there'd yet be SOME advantage in having the deaf-grey around, he'd have tried to shake it off before now, though it seemed to have become convinced it was as close to a pet as a lion got. "Not that I'm sure it matters what this lump gets called but what about just plain ol' "Simba"." ((since that just means Lion....and Bat has no idea that a long stretch out of his time frame Disney will make a movie about a lion named SImba))
