A recent blog by Microsoft Live direct "MajorNelson" (www.majornelson.com) Has said that E3 has been cancelled!!!???!?!?!?!
How can this be? Well he puts it as the whole thing is just too damn big.
So if these rumor (which started at Joystiq) turn out to be ture what would that mean for the gaming industry.?
Thoughts and opinions?

* Gamespot states that this is merely a downsizing and relocation. That effectively means the same thing as a cancellation. Next year's E3 will be a shadow of a memory of previous E3s. If the ESA doesn't manage to get the big guys back on board, another organizer will step in within the next 18 months with a show that will take E3's crown as the king of gaming trade shows. * Don't expect any major gaming trade shows to take place next year. If the Gamestars Live/ECTS fiasco in the UK in 2004 was anything to go by, we can expect very little in the way of trade shows next year. 2008 will feature a lot of smaller, developer orientated shows, and by 2009/10 we'll be booking our tickets to go to E3's replacement. * In the short term, GDC is going to get big, very big. As the next biggest American gaming show after E3, expect a lot of next year's big gaming news to come out of San Fransisco.

That seems like a huge load of s**t to me. I saw no reasons stated as to why it would be cancelled or downsized. A video game convention that helps Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, and many, many game developers get more money going down the drain for no good reason? Sense please? The North American market is huge for games. Cancelling E3 would be retarded. >.<

Apparently, everything will be confirmed later today. sweatdrop
However, it's certain that E3 won't be closed. Just downsized- the reason for this is that the cost of setting up the show far outweighs the press/media coverage that it should be gettings, so the price to run the show doesn't justify the return very much at all. (Much like the PS3 lawlz rofl )
What I've heard is that they're thinking of downsizing it from thousands of people to hundreds, all packed into a university-sized classroom, which makes sense to me.

It's not like there is need for E3 anyway. Almost every major company has their own conference type thing...Nintendo with Spaceworld, Microsoft with X0_, EA, etc.

Well, at least there won't be E3 threads. And 24 hour coverage of Morgan Webb standing around with her witch voice.
*shudder*

No. It's not going to be in E3 form. They're not getting rid of it, just changing it.

The announcement of the downsizing is giving me some hope that they'll either move it over to the eastcoast... Or make it open to the public.
The public gets allowed access into TGS, why shouldn't the americans get something similar? =/

I finally become the legal E3 admission age (when I was told it was "possible to go"), and they suddenly decide to change ********. For their sake, it will be better than the past E3's.

I'd love for it to move to the east coast. Then I could go.
