XD I remember when one of my friends first got on Runescape...she was thirteen, I think, and she had like twenty online boyfriends at the same time at one point...but that's off-topic, isn't it? *ships that comment off to the Runescape thread*
Anyway, I think twelve-year-olds are fine on Gaia, with parents' permission or pretend parents' permission (because some under-thirteen-minors do lie about having their parents' permission to join the site). The only real problem I see is when adults don't realize that there are children here under thirteen, or when children don't realize that many Gaians are adults. It causes a great deal of confusion for both parties.
Personally, I think the question is whether to allow some of the forums I've been seeing on Gaia. If one were to enter the Chatterbox at any given time, I am sure that person would see subjects such as, "Boys chained up, girls take them home as pets!" or some such nonsense. I'm sure that's fine on specific guilds devoted to that sort of stuff, but that should not be the first thing new Gaia members see when they go on the forums for the first time.
...
Somehow, I don't think I proved anything with what I said. >_<

I don't care what age they are just so long as they don't sit there and tell me that I have to watch my language because their only like 12, or that it's not nice to threaten to strangle someone with their own intestines. If you don't like it, then don't come onto this site.

But no one can control the content of other users unless new rules are placed on oh say the chatterbox by the owners of the site. I do agree that new users shouldn't have to see that first and that it should be more of a guild thing than an open forum for minors to see such disgraceful things such as girls in cages and all that other inappropriate content. But than it's the chatterbox and even if it were in guilds it's still possible that minors will be exposed to such content.

More often than that, the twelve-year-olds just lie about their own age so they don't have to worry about asking for parental permission (that's what I did to get on to fanfiction.net a few years back).
