hide was probably J-rock & Visual Kei's biggest trendsetter.
He was greatly involved in X-Japan, and after the band's split, he went on to do two solo projects: "Zilch" and "hide with Spread Beaver".

hide started playing guitar as a child--in school and played in a small band called Saber Tiger. He was recognized for his talents and taken into "X"(later renamed X-Japan) by Yoshiki--hide was enthusiastic, anything his bandmate Yoshiki didn't compose, hide did.

Once day after a night of heavy drinking, hide returned to his apartment around 6am. He was found later by his roomate, hanging by a towel from the bathroom door. hide was instantly rushed to the hospital and pronounced dead on May 2, 1998 at 8:52am. His funeral was attended by roughtly 25,000 people and eight of his loyal fans attempted scuicide--3 were successful.

hide never did manage to complete his Spread Beaver albums, or get back together with Yoshiki's band as he had hoped to do in 2000. However, hide's death remains a mystery, some saying he commited scuicide because of depression/pressure, other say this is unlikely--his carreer was going great. It's also belived that hide had died accidentally due to having too much alcohol(which is closest to what I believe)--and there are those who believe that hide had been practicing a scuicide scene from an upcoming movie of his.

After becoming one of J-rocks biggest musicians, hide even had ties with American bands and musicians such as Nine Inch Nails and Marylin Manson. When he was pronounced dead, he shocked the world, and was even writeen about in the New York Times obituary.

One things for sure--Alu-chan will always remember hide(although I never actually met him), and he will live on in the hearts of the memebers of X-Japan and the rest of his fans and friends.

I'm a big fan of hide. ;-; When I had learned more about him a while ago, I was really sad to learn my newest favorite singer died. Made me wish I was a J-rock fan a long time ago. I've planned since then, when my father lets us visit Japan, one of the first thing's I'm going to do is visit his museum..

I'm a big fan of hide. ;-; When I had learned more about him a while ago, I was really sad to learn my newest favorite singer died. Made me wish I was a J-rock fan a long time ago. I've planned since then, when my father lets us visit Japan, one of the first thing's I'm going to do is visit his museum..
