Full Name: Laika Marie Hallows Residence: Los Angeles, CA Birthdate: 01/01/1989 Age: 17 Appearance: Tall, slender, and well-endowed, Laika is a pretty one, and she knows it. Her skin is very lightly tanned, her heavily-lidded eyes a dark brown (Hey, not all characters have to have bright pinkvioletaquamarine eyes). Her hair falls slightly past her shoulders, and is always dyed bright cherry red, although her roots reveal her natural colour to be dark brown as well. She wears dark makeup around her eyes, but little else for cosmetics. As for clothing, her usual outfit consists of a spiked dog collar around her neck, a smattering of black bracelets on one arm and a string of red beads on the other, a tank top with one band logo or another on it, a belt of (non-functional) bullets, tight, oddly patterened pants (plaid, leopard, zebra), and heavy steel-toed boots.
Personality: Laika is the girl your parents warned you about. Loud, outspoken, and prone to mood swings. Equally capable of great joy and raging anger, each of her moods seems to be to the extreme. Though friendly under the right circumstances, she's quick to anger if rubbed the wrong way, and just downright bitchy at times. She carries herself with sincere confidence, not suffering from the crippling self esteem issues that seem to plague most girls her age. Yet she also seems to be hiding quite a bit of sadness in her heart, and seems a bit prematurely aged due to events in her life.
Likes: Punk music, playing guitar, drinking, playing cards, sunny days. Dislikes: Annoying girls, angry drunks, her father, peppers.
Background: Laika's story is a sad one, yet really fairly common and unspectacular. She grew up in a small apartment in Los Angeles with her mother, younger brother, and a rather abusive father. Her mother, a beaten wreck of a woman, had long since given up on standing up to her husband, and her brother was too young to be of much notice to her father. This left Laika, a rebellious one from the start, to be the brunt of most of her father's anger. During her preteens she found herself becoming drawn to the punk culture of LA, finding a place to get away, where people accepted her as one of their own. She eventually became the singer/guitarist of a rather popular band, The Screaming Scarecrows. Unfortunately, as Laika grew older and began "filling out," her father began to pay a very different kind of attention to her. Fortunately, as soon as Laika figured out her father's intentions, she knew that she had put up with enough. At the age of sixteen, she left home and moved in with her bandmates. Though she dropped out of high school, she managed to get the credits needed to graduate through night classes, as she worked during the day. But this only lasted for about a year. Plagued by worries for her family and just feeling the need to get away and start over, Laika set off once again.
How she got to the island: She had heard rumors of a tropical community where a runaway teen like herself could get a decent place to live and maybe even an education. She figured it was worth a shot.

Doberman Pinschers The Doberman or Doberman Pinscher is a breed of domestic dog. Dobermanns are commonly used as guard dogs, watch dogs, or police dogs. AppearanceDobermans typically have a deep, broad chest, and a powerful, muscular body of medium size. However, in recent years some breeders have primarily bred, shown, and sold a slimmer or more slender-looking Doberman. This has become a popular body type among many owners, especially those who want to show their Dobes competitively. The traditional body type is still more desirable to many casual owners and to those who want the dog for protection. Most people picture a Doberman's color as the typical black with rust markings. However, the existence of two different color genes in the Doberman provides four different phenotypes in Doberman color. The traditional color, produced when one or both genes have the dominant allele, is commonly referred to as black or black and rust (also called black and tan), while the most common variation, due to both genes having the recessive allele, produces what is called a red or red and rust Doberman in America and a "brown" Doberman in the rest of the world, which is primarily deep reddish-brown with rust markings. Doberman tails and ears are often cropped around 12 weeks old, making the ears stand erect and the tails simple nubs. If left uncut, the ears grow floppy and the tails long. Recently, there is a lot of activity to stop this practice, but many owners shy away from this because they do not believe that the uncut dogs look like dobermans. TempermentThe Dobermann is often used as a protection dog, due to its intelligence, loyalty, and ability to physically challenge human agressors. Dobermanns are even now, and once more extensively, used in police work and in the military and are top fighting dogs if trained properly. In these roles, they inspire fear. They are often stereotyped in such roles in movies (where they are trained to exhibit seemingly "aggressive" behavior), and consequently many people are afraid of the breed. A related problem is the misunderstanding of their legitimate roles; because guard dogs are trained to neutralize unwelcome intruders, many people mistakenly believe that Dobermanns are vicious. HistoryDobermans were first bred in Germany around 1890 by Karl Friedrich Louis Dobermann. He was a tax collector who needed a protection dog to guard him, so he set out to breed a new type of dog that, in his opinion, would be the perfect combination of strength, loyalty, intelligence, and ferocity. He also worked with dogs as a second job, giving him access to dogs for breeding. Later, Otto Goeller and Philip Gruening continued to develop the breed. Why a Doberman...?Strong and prideful. Loyal and vicious. And hey, not too bad on the eyes, either. It just fit!
