Rumbly Thunders
Quote:
Yume and Trea sat together on a park bench, tossing scrapes of bread to the pigeons. A gentle midday breeze was blowing Trea's now shoulder length hair around her face. Yume sat with her hair pulled up smiling as she admired her 'daughter'. Thunder rubmled with the onset of a storm, it wasn't near enough yet to bother their day.

The breeze was a welcome thing. The day had been all too humid for her own liking, and Donna still couldn't fathom WHY Carl was wearing his hoodie in such hot weather. To each his own though...She's bought him other things, but if all he chose to wear was the southern cross necklace she'd gotten him, than so be it. Her crimson orbs had since been watching the distant clouds, but soon lost interest as two familiar figures came to rest within her sight. She smiled some before then hailing them. "Hey Yume! Trea! Long time no see."

"Moothe!" It came without thinking, but Carl immediately placed a hand over his beak thereafter. Stupid speech impediment, it made him sound a fool. He fell behind, regaining composure, before once again trying out his greeting with a more refined stride. "Hello you two, nice to have found you!"

Quote:
Yume snapped up out of thought and smiled as the birds took to flight away from their feast.

Trea looked up and jumped off the bench."Donna! I missed you!" She stopped for a moment and looked around. She had heard another voice and it confused her that she didn't know who it was. Looking at Donna's wrist she didn't see Carls velcro perch. It seemed she had missed the greeting from her bird. "Donna... where is Carl?"

Yume stood up and began to walk toward them. "It is nice to see you again, someone missed her pal. She won't go a day without his feather tied in her hair."

Donna chuckled softly and gestured to her young charge. "It's good to see you both, as well, and Carl has missed his 'Moose' to." She knew that sounded odd, but that WAS what he called the girl. Someday he might break from that, but as of now he was quite content to show off without her musings.

Carl strode up before Moose and Bowed low, mimicking Toby's behavior. "Hello, Moo.." "Se" He shot a brief look of annoyed thanks to his mother before continuing."Good to meet you again! I have been lonely without you being around, and I hope you like me now, even if I can't fly."

Quote:
Trea stopped and blinked, tilted her head to gather everything. Then she broke into a large grin and ran up to Carl, throwing her arms around him. "You grew!"

Yume giggled and looked at Trea. "I'm glad we are together. They deserve time to play more. Carl and his Moose." She giggled, noticing that he had a small lisp, more than likely because of his beak.

"Indeed! I broke mom from jail and got quite larger!" His head bowed and a smile came. He nestled into her soft hair and allowed himself to be praised and pampered by the Moose.

The woman nodded and watched the affectionate display. "Yeah, they really have missed one another. You have no idea how much he fussed that she might not like him because he can't fly." This idea also caused her to allow some laughter, before her attentions turned to Yume. "So how have you been?"

Quote:
Trea took a step back thinking she might be squishing him a bit. "Why are you wearing something so heavy?" She looked up at the sky as some thunder rumbled again. She was wearing a new knee length skirt, a soft yellow in color, and a white tank top shirt. Yume had helped her dress, and for that she was glad. Normally pants were her choice.

Yume giggled at them a bit. "Breaking you out of jail huh? Not fly, I imagine he is having a hard time dealing with that too?" She licked her lips and then sighed a bit. " I have been working, getting used to being human still. I do miss being a lazy cat. Though this lets me help Trea so much more. Lucian as well since I was babysitting him for a while."

"It might rain, and it will be cooler then. My hoodie will keep me warmer, for it." He nodded sagely and smile wide. The eagle had planned ahead! Which was odd, since most of the time he was impulsive, perhaps a sixth sense that he would see Moose?

"Well..He DID try to fly again after our quest. It didn't go so well. He is coping though, and we've rigged the house so he can get up at stuff."

Quote:
She smiled and nodded. "Hopefully it doesn't get that cold. Or hopefully I will be inside then if it does. I don't really like getting wet."

"Poor dear. At least he is coping with it though. Trea has the perfect little claw nails for climbing up the wood cabinets in our house. I have to say though, with her sneaking skills, she has scared me when I have rounded corners more than once!" She laughed a bit, thinking of how many times she had yelped in fright from her.

"You could borrow my hoodie, if the rain will come. I'm ok." That and he wanted to show off his new body. Even Donna had said that he was built! Whatever that meant…He was sure it was good, right?

"Carl DOES have the claws, but with his strength I'm scared he might break the furniture of hurt himself. More so worried about him getting hurt than my stuff. We have found a solution though. Miniladders!" She paused, and had to go back to that last bit. "Trea has scared you? Well at least I'm not the only one." It was her turn to laugh then, as she recalled the first time she met Trea and had been screaming 'Mouse in a dress!'

Quote:
Trea smiled, she had seen Yume's cheeks go red around Tenez and thought that if she didn't have fur that hers would be red now. "Thank you Carl. The hood would keep your feather safe too." She absent mindely ran her hand over the feather on the right side of her hair.

"Miniladders, much like those for smaller birds? Im guessing the appropriate size though."She laughed, sharing the same thought as Donna. "How much strength does he have? If you are worried about him hurting himself it must be quite a bit."

"Hmmm. Hold on a sec and I'll show you." It was then she wandered off and towards the playground that so many children had come to cherish as a retreat into childhood.

Past the swings, then the gymnasium, until finally she bent down very near to the monkey bars and found a freshly shed rod of metal. That would do. Her slender digits wrapped around it, and having plucked it from the earth she returned to her Velvet and friends. "Here, Carl, why don't you make something for Yume and Trea?"

That was a marvelous idea! Ie eagerly took the metal and, without even looking strained, began to bend and shape it. His claws would sometimes bore into it, creating more intricacies to make the thing beautiful - until at long lasting minutes did he hand a small, silver mouse (very much resembling her) to Trea and a cat figurine to Yume.

Quote:
"Wow...." Yume stood dumbfounded, though what the velvets can do shouldn't surprise her. She gazed at the object, turning it around in her hands. "To bad he isn't bigger, you wouldn't have to worry about how to rearrange your house ever again!"

"Carl!" Trea smiled and hugged the metal object, though it was a bit heavy to her. She didn't do much lifting of anything. "That was amazing!" She looked around and twitched her nose. What could she do to impress him? Unfortunatly therer wasn't much.

Carl swelled with pride and watched them admire his work. So there was some use to his mother's constant quell for him to practice his skill. Days ago he would not have been able to do such things, thus even amazing himself as he peered at the small mouse his Moose held. As such - if he got any more praise, he was very likely to become a large ball of nothing but feather and fluff!

"That would be something! Although getting him to carve things took a LOT of practice on his part and a lot of nagging on mine."

Quote:
"Looks like your mum had good sense. Teaching you such things." The carving she looked at closer. Then to his talons that he had used, she hadn't looked at them before. They were so large and... sharp. She shuddered, something made her afraid of them. Then she looked up to his face and she felt better, seeing his feathers all fluffed up. He looked harmless.

"Well good for both of you! Trea, she is more relaxed in her talents. Nothing extreme but she is well rounded in her studies. You could make some good money with his talents, well not showing them off to everyone. That could bring some bad attention. But his items, they are pretty."

"Mother can be helpful every now and again." "Ahem?..." "Alright, Mother is very helpful and intelligent." Thaaat was better.

Carl noticed Trea's attention to his claws, and he flexed them so she could get a better look. "I like them! Don't you? They can pull open a lot of great food!"

Quote:
Trea dropped her eyes to the flexing claws. She laughed nervously. Food.. pull open... Her mind went back to when she met them and Donna was teaching her about what he ate with the flash cards. He knows the difference... right? "I bet they help you out alot..." She looked back up and smiled, forcing some less pleasant thoughts away.

Yume giggled as Carl was 'corrected.' "Such cute kids we have.

Donna smiled and whispered at Yume, "Don't tell him that to his face. He likes to think he's 'manly'."

"Yep! Taco, burrito, and I like cow a lot! Although I can't hunt cow, mom doeth.." He winced at his speech flaw. "that part." As a predator, he was completely oblivious to the prey species quarrel. He looked at her and smiled as though he had never torn open a squirrel or rabbit in his entire life. But that was not true - and he wasn't about to lie about his accomplishments. "Do you hunt?"

Quote:
She nodded and smiled, "I will keep that between us then."

"Hunt? I don't think so. What is hunt?" Such a strange word... What could it even mean? His smile was so proud... what is hunt? She glanced at the sky, just as lighting struck from the clouds to the earth a few miles from them. She squealed and jumped up a bit, her landing was horrible, she stumbled over her own feet against Carl.

He hugged her close and bristled his feather against her. Their thick coating would protect her from the rain. Honestly, he didn't much like lightning either, but he had to be brave! If he wasn't, who would be for Moose? His smile was wide at her interest, and it was there he began his explanation.

When you hunt, you catch and eat prey! Rabbit, Tree rat, turtle,I hunted a lot when I could fly. Now, Mother will bring food to me. I'm not really allowed to hunt anymore." This sounded a bit sad, distant, and lonesome. He loved to hunt, but he knew his mother was right.

Quote:
She flattened her ears down to keep rain from dripping in them. Rat... catch.. eat... "Carl, what do you eat now?" She shuddered against him from both the thought of something similar to her and the cold as well. She didn't think Donna would let her bird eat rats now.

“I eat a lot of food now. Cow, odd noodle hair, vegetable mix, chocolate…Food like that. Here…” Knowing the rain would soon penetrate her summer wear, he pulled away and pulled off his hoodie. It was thick and warmed by his body, which now exposed, was toned and lean like a true predator ought be. He had been working out, and it was showing off all it’s worth by the sinew that lay hidden in rest beneath his feathers. The violet garment was passed to her. “That’ll warm you up!”

"Oh, well those aren't bad foods. I eat lots of that stuff too, except meats." She snuggled into the sweater as it hung around her, a bit to big, she felt almost swallowed by it. She closed her eyes while she took in the overwhelming scent of Carl. She pulled the hood up over head, flattening her ears back so it didn't make the shape look to silly on her. "It's all nice and snuggly! Thanks." Trea smiled, looking up at him before taking a glance at his bare chest. For now, it didn't phase her much. Maybe once she was older the birds well muscled body would be very impressive. For now the mouse was far to naive to such topics. Then she looked over at Yume.

"C'mon! Open..." Yume had her attention focused on getting her unbrella open to help shield her from the rain. At the rate she was going however, she would be soaked before it was opened.

Donna was WELL ahead of Yume. She didn’t really appear to care she was getting wet, and chose to lay her attentions upon observing Trea and her child. A smile came through. “Well…at least I finally got you to take a bath, today. Thank you, Mother Nature.”

The boy puffed his feathers in a little annoyance of his defeat. Only now did it occur to him that his mother had tricked him out here, since he had refused to take a bath when they were at home. It had let him see Trea though, so he honestly wasn’t very upset with it. His feathers became slick again. He looked at Trea and smiled. “No problem. You look good in it!”

Trea smiled as she wrapped her arms around herself relaxing into the warm fabric. She looked up at a nearby tree and headed for it, taking Carl's hand .. claw... trying to ignore the feel of the rougher scales and sleek curve of his talons on her own soft fur. She sat down on one of the roots and leaned against the trunk. "There we go, now we are even more out of the rain." She cast a glance at Yume who had finally succeeded in over coming the umbrella, however she still managed to get wet enough to look like a drowned rat.

"Well, that was interesting." She finally had enough time to look up and notice the children. Donna had done well with giving her child a well built physic ((sp? o.O)) and she realized that maybed it wouldn't be long before they had some talks to give their children as well. They did look so cute holding hands as they walked over to the tree.

Carl shifted against the tree and looked into the darkening sky. Lightning flashed overhead, and for once he looked as though his confidence wasn’t brimming. “Maybe we’d be better off wet than under a tree…” The fear was with good reason. Carl had seen trees be stricken before.
Donna followed Yume and playfully prodded her. “Maybe we can meet up again sometime, but for now it’s getting late…You and Trea be careful on the way home, ok?”

Trea had been ready to ask why one would be better off wet but didn't have time. Yume had seen the lightining as well and with Donna's suggestion moved to the velvets. She picked up Trea after she had wriggled out of Carl's sweater and given it back to him. It now had her soft scent of fresh linen and spring flowers.

"See you both soon, and be carefull as well." Yume and Trea both smiled, Trea waved goodbye to them both and then curled up sleepily in Yume's arms for the walk home.
