Gaia admins ban user for glitch trade
Artist recieves commission of glitched gold, username banned indefinitely

User Image
Administrator Lanzer recently reported that there was a glitch in the Gaia Fishing system that allowed a user to obtain gold that was not rightfully earned. The admin is quoting as saying, "As part of Gaia's rules and regulations, anyone who hacked or cheated in any way will be permanently banned from Gaia Online. This includes the cheaters, themselves, and any accounts that received gold from the cheaters in a one way trade. Questionable trades are also being investigated at the moment." However, as some say, the punishment was not well thought out, and has caused at least one undeserving banning.
User Phillis, now under the pseudonym Yuankon, has claimed that she deserves her account back after recieving a glitch-gold commission. "Near the time when the fishing store glitch occurred (which I was completely oblivious of), I found [another user's] request thread, and PM'd him, offering to discuss a commission over Yahoo Instant Messenger," she recounts. "This 'newbie'... offered me 800K for a commission, 400K upfront, 400K at the end. Naturally, I took the offer, and wound up with 400K glitched gold in my inventory.
"Being someone who's in R&C all the time, I had no knowledge of the glitch. I went and bought an Angelic Sash, a prize for an art contest I'm holding at the BBS guild. A friend...informed me on AIM...that 'there is someone on the R&C spending glitched gold.' Right then and there, I realized why someone was crazy enough to offer me 800K for a couples commission."
She goes on to say that she PMed a mod, and explained the situation. The moderator said that the situation would be looked into, but Phillis soon found herself banned.
To this date, there has been no response from the Gaian administration over the banning of this account, but Phillis is actively attempting to have the ban revoked.
If you are interested in joining the effort to get Phillis her account back, simply visit her thread at http://www.gaiaonline.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4761266&highlight= and help bump. If you hear of any more users with similar stories, please PM Gear-Richie.

Labtechs and Gambino
On the Isle de Gambino, a dark secret hides...

User Image
The death of Labtech013. Labtech062 retires. The doomed party at Gambino's mansion had a manditory attendance requirement for the Labtechs. "The most powerful man in Gaia," Johnny K. Gambino, allegedly is responsible for the zombie attacks, and only one person, LabtechX, sells for 100 gold apiece, special vials to cure "zombification."

The party had more than one purpose. It was a Halloween Bash, retirement party, and a birthday party for Gambino's son, Gino.
Labtech013 comes back to life during Lebtech062's retirement party and begins to attack many of the Labtechs. The Labtechs, however, still try and hide the fact that he died, saying he went to work for the cemetary. The party becomes a zombie bite-fest.

The mansion goes into lockdown, and the human guests of the party are given machine guns. Zombies begin to attack, and the entire party goes into utter chaos.

Then Gambino's mansion is destroyed by a missile. Gambino manages to survive, and submits autographed photos of the destruction.

User Image

And it was not Gino's birthday.

The majority of the Labtechs at this time have not been heard from. They are still listed as zombies. Labtech013 is back from the grave, and if you don't believe me, check his profile. LabtechX still exists, but he has yet to do anything public since closing up shop.

The many theories of what happened and who is responsible for what flood Gaia. Some say that Gino dressed up as LabtechX and sold the vials to foil his father's plot. Some more extreme theories state that Gambino ate Gino. Others still say that Gino was bound to the house, and was killed in the bomb, which Johnny Gambino had set to come.

No one may ever know what really happened, but investigative teams of Gaians are working constantly to come up with more information.

If you have any more information regarding the Gambino Halloween Bash of Y2k4, please PM Gear-Richie. You may see your letter in the next month's issue of The Gaian Record International.

Gaia Fishing: A Blessing, or a Curse?

User Image

Recently, the Gaia staff has been working on a new project: Gaia Fishing. Many people were very excited about it, waiting for it to be released. After a sneak preview, it took a while longer, but it was finally released. "Test your skills in fishing for the rarest fishes in the world of GAIA,"? said B5, around a month ago, when Gaia Fishing was released. But many people have been complaining about the loss of their expensive bait, and their loss of gold. "I had just bought 5 Grade A baits, and when I tried to fish again... Well all my baits were gone,"? said [Impudent], and "I just want my Tootin Tino back,"? said another Gaian after losing a bucket with a fish apparently called the "Tootin Tino." The Gaia Fishing Complaints thread has been rapidly growing since it was created, on the same day Gaia Fishing was released. A Gaian has recently said, "They're just doing it to speed up the economy."
Another anonymous Gaian has a completely different perspective. "I think [the price] is too much for a rod." Many Gaians have different views about the gameplay as well, as many complain, but a few, like sk8_gurl21 have said, "At first there were a lot of people who were complaining about the difficulty level of Gaia Fishing... but really it gets much easier once you get the hang of it... I think people should learn to be patient." So if you're willing to risk losing lots of gold, go ahead! But if you want to stay on the safe side, you might want to stick with the cheap bait until they have all the bugs wrinkled out.

And then go crazy, and buy grade A++ bait!

The very Gaian truth about the Chatterbox!
A box filled with chatter or just a place for the n00b?

User Image
I had thought about it a lot as I, guyseh, used to spend embarrassingly much time in The Chatterbox. Is The Chatterbox really a place where the so called elites can be sure the n00bs won't leave? Or is it a pleasant chatterbox filled with laughter and randomness?

To answer my question I decided to ask the Gaians themselves and surprisingly enough did they all shock me with their answers.
"I feel like there's a lot of stereotyping of the forums around here and that someone should try looking at them somewhat closer." user AriyaLauna

I can almost say that every Gaian do like The Chatterbox for it's randomness and how you can post, close to whatever you want, without getting yelled at by a mod. Though a lot of the people do only come here and like it when they claim to be bored or out of gold.
So what about the n00b rumour? I thought that it was only the 'elite' Gaians that were disturbed by newbie's. But as I asked around I learned that that feeling were equal. User Ruuna told me that The Chatterbox was the most entertaining forum and when I asked him why, he told me "It's fast and most of the uppity Gaians stay out." And user in the afternoon said 'The Chatterbox is very free and that there aren't any elitists'. So as the 'elist' Gaians are staying away n00bs, the n00bs are hoping not to bump into them right back.
But it isn't only the n00bs using the forum, some rather famous Gaians are creating their threads here, which attracts other Gaians who normally would oppose to the box.
The friend status did variety a lot. Some thought it was easier to find friends in the box because of people being able to talk however they want. Not all agreed to this. One user said "I have only gotten one friend from The Chatterbox. Far more from Barton Town and the guilds." she went on "The only other people that pm'd me from The Chatterbox are beggers and 'lyke du u hve bf?' messages."

Okay, fooling around is fun, but what if that's not what I want to do at the moment?
If you're looking for serious and nice people, or advice and help, The Chatterbox isn't the place to go to. The Exchange, The General Discussions or The Extended Discussions and not to mention the Questions and Feedback forum was the most popular if you're hunting for someone a bit sensible. There you can express yourself without receiving mean and horrible answers to what you think and you don't risk to get noticed but some jerk with serious spelling and grammar problems.

Some thought it is a great place to isolate the n00bs in while others were crying, thinking it's taken over by the n00bs. But honestly, we are chatterbox groupies, all of us. And we know it.

Gaian Fashion
The frills and ruffles go deeper than one might think.

User Image

What is it about the aspect of Gaia to dress up a small pixelated character, no bigger than 150 pixels either way, that is so entrancing? Is it the fact going around with only a bodice and not getting ridiculed? Or perhaps something about the fact you can roam around with cat ears and not be found odd. Countless Gaians have caught the fashion bug. From questing to avatar contests to fashion trends, the system has impoloded into something bigger than even the makers of Gaia could ever have imagined.
But... Is the doll aspect of Gaia really preferable to all the other services it offers?
"Well, I think it is." Aggressive Napkin said. "Since people...judge you by your avatar and [use it to determine] whether you're a 'n00b' or not."
Lord Rene felt differently, however. "No, avatars are not the most important thing in Gaia, but is definitely the key of the whole game. There is so much more than just dressing your avatar in expensive clothes."
The clothes, the clothes. There are so many different varrieties and colors, shirts, skirts, stockings, hats, and animal ears, to name a few. But are the more expensive items really better than the, dare I say it, CHEAP?
"I'd have to dissagree with that," Trazzy-Cantoress stated. "I mean, some items might make the person look better, but its actually easier to make with cheap ones and they all dont look that bad."
"Before... ...I was happy with my sand summer top and green cargo pants. But after awhile, I started geting more familiar with Gaia, and began to want other items." Kiyoshi_kin said.
Whether you're leaning toward the cheaper goods or the perhaps more expensive, it will probably take awhile to get you hands on everything you want. I know, in my own personal experience, that it took most of my existance on Gaia to get my hands on a Canary Yellow Pimp hat (which looks absolutely smashing on me, by the way).
"I was extremely lucky, the looks I have now only took me a couple of days to get," Kiyoshi_kin said. While she is perfectly happy with her look, others are a little less compliant.
"I'm never fully satisfied with my avatar and I've only being on Gaia for a couple of months. I think it took me about 2 months to figure out what I wanted and most of my avatar is finished at the moment. Jus' a couple of things are missing." Aggressive Napkin said.
With all the buzz about fashion on Gaia, people have found many ways to talk about it, by the way of Rating Threads, Avatar Contests, and Questing Threads.
"I think its all crap," one anonymous Gaian said angrily. "It doesen't matter if you are wearing the peasant set or the angelic set. You are the exact same person whether you are decked out or not."
Trazzy-Cantoress was more annoyed by the Avatar contests in general. "Some people only vote for others that have rich stuff, which isn't right. I think people need to tak a closer look. Thats what annoys me."
Some people are taking a completely different approach to the fashion industry of Gaia, back to the skin and bones, literaly. Febuary 12 has been proudly proclaimed, "Nakie Day". Countless Gaians, including myself, will wear no clothes besides the ones naturally provided. Including hats and noses and socks. No one is better than another, and we will be united as a (naked) online community.
So whether you are questing for that last item in the angelic set or running around El Natural, Gaian' fashion is here to stay.
Information about Nakie day and other subjects mentioned are just a PM away.

Gaian Fishing Cruel?

User Image

Once again conservative Gaian users sit and watch radicals corrupt the site with nonsense. Many feel that Gaia fishing encourages violence and cruelty to animals. As stated by Gaia user HomoBonus, "Fish suffer greatly when caught and killed for their flesh. Whether caught by hook or net, fish experience fear as evidenced by increased heart and breathing rates, just as humans do".
Members of the AFL may find Gaia's support of animal abuse frightening, considering that many Gaia users are children. The fish featured in Gaia Fishing are not real; the game causes no harm to actual fish. This shows that animal rights activists will stop at nothing to force their beliefs upon others.
Gaia Fishing is a flash game. If users such as HomoBonus are concerned about this game, they should pm a moderator, instead of taking up enormous spaces of bandwidth and polluting the friendly Gaian atmosphere with their far-reaching beliefs.
