He this is my first topic here but this questions been eating at me for a while...
I started playing FF9 a while back and I made it almost completly through the game befor,I relized i was wating my time on a peice of crap.I'll admit there were some cool parts of the game that i enjoyed (the way the card game was played,Vivi,Blank,) but overall i felt the game was poorly done and though Square was trying something "different" they couldv'e been consistant. For example Garnet and Zidane were supose to be 17 or 18(around the same age as Squall and Rinoa...or Tidus and Yuna) but they looked like they were 9...yet Stiner look the age he was supose to ...the game play and battle system wasn't hard put it was a bit confusing with the TRANCE meter and all. Also while in 7 Sephiroth looked femine, you could tell it was a he.While on the other hand in 9 Kuja... yu could not, I didn't find out it was a he till like the begaining of the 3rd dics....
there's more but my hands are tierd so tell me Am I Alone or what?!?!?!?

Dark Seraph whoa. not to sound offensive, but how did you gt accepted here when you act like some fanboy? ... So he's a fanboy because he knows the Final Fantasy games from 7 up fairly well? confused By that definition, most of us are fanboys/girls. He was asking if anyone shared his opinion. And, not having played FF9, I can't really comment on the actual point of this topic, though. ^^()

Square tried something new? No. FFIX is a game that returns to Square's old roots that were once on the SNES, which explains the "chibi look". Also, Dagger ( Garnet ) is suppose to be 16, same with Zidane ( who is actually a pretty cool character ). Anyway, Final Fanatasy IX is my favorite FF because of how it focuses on every character and not just one main character.

Dark Seraph, this guy's point doesn't seem to me like he's ranting about how much FF9 sucks. He seems to be asking for opinions on the game; he presents his own, and then wants to see if he's the only person who feels that way.
Well, FF9 is my least favorite game of the series. FF7 had decent enough gameplay but the digusting obsession hordes of people have with it is inescapably corrosive to the game's image in my eyes; FF8 I liked better than 7, but the game came off as focusing wayyy too much on GFs in battle. FF9 would not necessarily be an atrocious game when compared to gaming as a whole, but in relation to the rest of the series (making exceptions for FF10-2 and FF11, which I not only haven't played but consider affronts to the series) I consider it the worst. None of the characters but Freya really interested me (especially not Steiner...ugh), Amarant was the worst 'token cool mystery guy' since...well, ever, and by the time I beat the game I had no interest in going through all the secrets. I'd not call it overrated, because it's never been a popular member of the series, but it wasn't one of the shining examples of why even people who played the series before 7 consider the games to be of an at least decent quality.

Not being being considered a popular member of the series? Doesn't that make it underrated? I have never seen any posts and I have never heard any praises for FFIX like I have heard for FFVII, FFX, and FFX-2.

Cpt. Joseph_Cilvaun Not being being considered a popular member of the series? Doesn't that make it underrated? I have never seen any posts and I have never heard any praises for FFIX like I have heard for FFVII, FFX, and FFX-2. I don't see how that would make it underrated. Besides, the terms 'overrated' and 'underrated' are all usually a matter of opinion anyhow; one person who thinks a given game is great might think it's underrated, while another person who's also played it may think that it got as little credit as it deserved. With regards to FFIX, I sit myself in the latter camp.

If anything I think FFX, X-2 and VII are the most overrated with VIII coming close behind. I appreciate FFIX for the fact that they didn't just rehash FFVII or FFVIII and they didn't cater to the most popular fads (as much) like J-pop.
On that note, Kuja looks the way he does because the designers were going for the 'beautiful J-pop star' look. In japan it's apparently mainstream for these guys to look feminine and some even wear skirts and dresses.
