x.x I have a 55 gallon freshwater fishtank and I have a MAJOR problem with what i think is brown algae. It grows in little dots but its EVERYWHERE!! my plants, my graves, my filter!! I spent about 2 hours last sunday scrubing it all off and now its worse! x.x
Fish:
7-Harlequin rasboras
2-Pearl Gouramis
5-Cory cats
7-cherry barbs
I have an air pump rated for a 60 gallon tank and a biowheel filter for 75 gallons.
I check my amonia and nitrite multiple times a week and have had 2 fish die (for unknown reasons)
Please give me any advice you can sweatdrop

Make frequent water changes and be very careful not to overfeed your fish.
A handful of otocinclus catfish would help to clear it up.

Super Goo Make frequent water changes and be very careful not to overfeed your fish. A handful of otocinclus catfish would help to clear it up. I've heard that they're hard to take care of unless you get like the alpha male x.x I was thinking about an ancistrus

Oe_Mizunagi Super Goo Make frequent water changes and be very careful not to overfeed your fish. A handful of otocinclus catfish would help to clear it up. I've heard that they're hard to take care of unless you get like the alpha male x.x I was thinking about an ancistrus They can be tricky, but they love brown algae.

Your fish should be fine for the time being. Another thing: Move your tank if it's in a place that gets a lot of sunlight, and cut back on the time that you run the lights. It'll help slow the growth of the algae. 3nodding

It'll help slow the growth of the algae. 3nodding O_O...move a quaterton fishtank? lol I think its from runing the lights for twelve hours a day without any plants. as for sun light, a little bit used to shine trough the side of my window but I taped my crutan-thingy to the wall so it would stop biggrin

Do you leave the lights on too long? That could be the problem.
Or your phosphate levels are too high.

Sometimes I stay up late and forget that my lights are on sweatdrop I'm getting a timer for when I set up my planted tank lol But now its all turned into green algae on my fake driftwood so it looks more natural and I love the color of algae ^_^

Chinese Algae Eaters or a few Otocinclus could easily take care of any algae problem. All my algae eaters died after an ich outbreak and algae took over. It looked like curry powder gonk I got one Chinese Algae Eater and a massive Chocolate Chip Spiny Pleco and all the algae is already cleared up. Natural methods are easier than cleaning, and cleaning everything can add bad chemicals to the water.
