Ummm... Although I think the rune was the main reason, I also think Jowy had a crush on Jilia, so that might have been another factor.

Idk. You have no idea what impact this game had to me while I played it for the first time. When Jowy stayed behind to let Riou and Nanami run, I was like "No! Don't die or anything!" And then when Riou, Nanami, and Pilika waited at Muse for him, I was like "That's so sad! crying " And then....that scene where Jowy was talking to Kage, I almost jumped. I was like "NO. EFFING. WAY." And then he joined the other side and I almost cried. Blahhhh

The reason Jowy joined Teh Dark Side *Cue Imperial March* is because he wanted to bring the Highland Kingdom down from the inside after he witnessed Luca Blight's terrible acts.

The curse of the Black Sword Rune had something to do with it, yes, but it was mostly Jowy's plans for revenge.


Also, I now have the image of Riou and Jowy lightsaber fighting stuck in my head.

Actually, I'm certain that the majority of his decision came from the rune. The rune puts the holders down the path IT WANTS. It's like the rune of Life and Death. It doesn't kill the ones closest to the user itself, but instead, puts them down a path that would lead to their demise. It's like a force they cannot resist. This is the reason why Jowy defected. Switch sides and become the enemy, and thus, Jowy and Riou would be in a position to fight each other until one is left standing.
