Discussion: Whether it's "ok" to give fast foods to young children and toddlers. How often, if at all? Alternatives to eating fast food?
Anything else you can think of. smile

When I was growing up, fast food was more so a treat than anything. Every month, or couple of months we'd go out to eat at McDonalds, Harveys, or some other place, but otherwise we'd stick to healthier things. I went through about a year when I had more freedom where I'd go out a lot more to eat, however, eventually I ended up not caring about it and preferring better foods.
I think anything in moderation is okay. If you want to give the children/toddlers a treat, then go right on ahead. Though for the younger ones I'd say to be careful. Then again, I'm not a parent, and those who are will do whatever they decide is best/most efficient/etc. There are numerous alternatives to fast food, you just have to take a look around you.

Fast food round here happens like two times a month. And mostly it's because of laziness or sickness or scorching freaking heat in which I'm not turning on my oven, stove, dishwasher, dryer...anything that gives off heat.
1. She doesn't eat much of it anyway. 2. 1/4 of a cheeseburger and 10 frenchfries is really nothing compared to the yogurt, cheese, celery, cereal, pb and j, etc. etc. good stuff, that she eats throughout the rest of the week and month etc.
My daughter mainly likes it because of the toy. I can buy ME food and buy her a toy and she's cool.
Also as a family we go out to eat (usually at a sit down restaurant) once every two weeks for "pay day dinner." But that's usually better quality food often with options like carrots or celery some restaurants like applebees will cook ANYTHING on their menu in a kids size if you ask. So there you go.
Anyway As long as it's the exception and not the rule I see nothing wrong with it.
I do believe the food is potentially addictive and really bad for you. But I think hamburger helper is potentially addictive and really bad for you and you can "cook" that at home.

I think people nowadays, personally, are a little too overzealous against fast food and convience foods. Anyone in this day and age who DOESN'T know it's bad for you, needs to take a step back and get some nutrition classes ASAP. Moderation and responsibility are the key. I tent to think it's absurd that people get away with lawsuits against fast food corporations.
We eat out a few times a month. Usually, we'll go to a playdate and sometimes he eats, sometimes he doesn't. We're not always the best eaters of course, but we are an active family (or try to be).

Everyone has good points. I'd like to add that fast food places are trying to give their customers better choices. For example, at McDonalds, children can choose different sides and drinks to go with their hamburgers.
I do not think there is anything with giving your child fastfood. As long as it isn't three times a day, every day.

I'm against fast food because I was raised on it, due to my mother being too busy to cook, and as a result I was a very overweight child.. I'm not one of the rabid insane people who's like, "Taking your kid to McDonalds EVER is Child Abuse!!!!!" though.
In moderation and as a treat, I don't see a problem, but I'd rather take kids out for pizza or something than to a chain fast food place just because we don't have a lot of the chain places where I live. sweatdrop

I'd say in moderation is fine.
When I was growing up, we used to go to McDonalds every other weekend. We'd stop by while my dad took me for the weekend. I'd eat the meal because I felt guilty not doing so, but I really just wanted the toy. Sometimes, I wish my dad would just have done what Nopen mentioned and buy himself food and just give me the toy, lol.
Now, I really dislike fast food. It's more convenient, sure, but I just don't like eating out. I really don't want my own children having any, especially not if it's treated like a "special treat." But like I said, it's fine in moderation. And if it's just one night where everyone is just really tired or it's just so horribly hot, then I can definitely see myself going out and getting some happy meals or something.
