Around father's day, there was a special on TLC of Miami Ink for one of the tattoo artists at the tattoo parlor the show's based off of, Kat. Her entire special was about people who got tattoos in rememberance of someone they either lost or perhaps even had gained (like, a newborn baby and what not). After watching it for the second time it was on, I decided I'd get a tattoo in rememberance of my father. My idea was to get an Art Nouveau styled angel on my right shoulder blade, having the wings go along with the shape of my shoulder and what have you. Though I'm still debating whether I want to have his name or have something else to really signify him. I even found the perfect place to get it done ( Here. Seriously though, anyone who appreciates any form of art should check it out. The stuff that Cory produces is more likely ******** paintings than tattoos). ANYHOO. I was wondering if there was anyone else who got tattoos for whatever reason, whether it be to remember someone, for fun, or a drunken mistake XD And perhaps even tell me what I should expect in terms of pain (because I'm a huge p***y when it comes to pain >>).

I haven't gotten inked yet, but I got my ear pierced in honor of accepting my mutable sexuality.
Both myself and my wife are considering getting tats to recognize the birth of our daughter. I'm also thinking of doing a couple for the sake of a couple of my personae dramatis.
They've developed tat ink that's actually microbeads surrounding a special ink; if you want it removed, a single laser treatment bursts the beads, and the ink metabolizes rapidly.

Wow, I've never heard of that. Sounds kinda wicked nifty.

I'm comming up on six or seven years of waiting to get one. I know what I want, and that hasn't changed in the six years. I really ought to just get it, but hey, if there's this new ink that makes it easy to take away should I ever decide to, I'll wait for that. ^.^ The only reason I havn't gotten it yet, is because it's permanent. sweatdrop

Now, for everyone who's gotten a tattoo, on a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate the level of pain experienced? XD just so I can be mentally prepared

Most artists give you an option for topical analgesic. 3nodding
Also, it really depends on where you get it - closer to nerve bundles and/or bone it is, the more it hurts. Knuckle hurts worse than back of the hand, which hurts worse than upper arm, and so on.

Now, I had heard that. Which makes me wonder what it'd be like if it were placed onto my shoulder blade. Because the area isn't really like a knuckle. There's usually a bit more tissue betwixed.

As a 18th birthday present to me I got a tribal dragon on my lower back. I don't really have an opinion on tattoos for rememberance but I can give you my inpute on the pain factor. The outilines hurt more, and the filling made me want to fall asleep. The more relaxed I allowed myself to be the less it hurt. And finally, the closser the artist got to my rear the more it hurt. ^^

Did you have any kind of anaesthetic at all for it, or were you taking the needle straight?
